SOS for Sam Spade edit

Hey, I found your comment on my friend Merecat's page. I'm with you. There's an rfc on Sam Spade. They are sitting around and eating cookies while they hurl insults and make dumb yuccy social worker type comments about him. I actually feel like throwing up. Can you help him? Thanks edit

What a beautifully programmed talk page. Thanks for the revert at Craw; I responded to this person at the talk page of that article but they don't appear to have read it. I wrote most of the article text and am not a member of the band, though I've seen them perform a few times and have some of their CDs. BTW we just had a speaker at my university from the university in Milwaukee; she presented a film in progress about links between the blues and West African music. It was interesting! RE: Wikipedia soft on vandalism edit

Thanks alot for your words of encouragement and your comments of support on the Wikipedia too soft on vandals discussion. I knew by posting on that page I was "in a den of lions", but I needed to do it. I spent a lot of time here on WP, but almost all of my time now is spend just reverting vandalism to pages on my watch list. It just bothers me, ya know? I only wish there were better counter-vandalism measures in place. Anyway, thanks again --AbsolutDan (talk) 23:05, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

your recent RfA edit

I don't know if I ever congratulated you on your successful RfA. Anyway, it was a pleasure voting for you, as I'm sure you're going to make a great admin. Best of luck, --Deville (Talk) 00:31, 3 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also, no problem on the revert! Actually, it was kind of weird, I couldn't figure out what the vandal was going on about. I even looked through his recent edits to try and get a clue but I couldn't figure it out. Very strange. --Deville (Talk) 01:40, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speedy keep of Rationales provided by advocates of the Impeachment of George W. Bush edit

Why did you speedy keep this? It does not meet any of the criteria outlined in Wikipedia:Speedy keep which are: An article can be speedily kept ONLY if one of the following holds:

  • the nominator withdraws the AFD and there have been no votes to delete so far.
  • the nominator clearly states that s/he actually wants the article renamed, merged, moved or redirected, rather than deleted, and the AFD has not yet received any valid delete votes.
  • The page does not qualify for AFD as it is not an article, and it belongs on a deletion page for redirects, images, stubs, categories, templates, or miscellaneous pages (userpages and wikipedia namespace). The discussion should be closed in AFD and re-opened on the correct place for deletion discussion. Note that this is a speedy close, so it still may be deleted in the end.
  • the nomination was clear-cut vandalism or WP:POINT and nobody disputes this or votes to delete it anyway (since calling a nomination vandalistic does not make it so and actual POINT-making AFD nominations appear far less frequently than accusations thereof).
  • the nominator is banned, so they are not supposed to edit. In that case, the article is speedily kept while the nomination can be tagged with (db-ban) and speedily deleted as a banned contribution.

You might claim that you can Ignore All Rules as I did when I speedy kept the Armenian Genocide article which is clearly notable and verifiable. Many people including myself are of the view that the rationale is a clear breach of WP:NOT. It would have been better in my judgement if you had let the debate run its course. Capitalistroadster 02:36, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speedy Keep edit

You just did a speedy keep on Bush saying that the last AfD was just closed. It was closed improperly. I took it to Deletion Review. The AfD was re-opened. Then it was closed again by a second admin who says the result at WP:ANI is to relist. It is somewhat confusing, but one of the two listings needs to proceed. Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3 edit

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

link removal (prostate massage and prostate massager) edit

Hi Fang Aili, I'm writing to ask why the link to High Island Health was removed on the prostate massage and prostate massager page. There is a wealth of information and a prostate massage forum on this website that aims to help individuals suffering from prostatitis and other prostate ailments. If you do a search on google for prostate massage and prostate massager, you'll see that highisland.com is listed first or second. The devices offered by high island are the most popular prostate massagers in the world today. There is no other way to safely and effectively perform a self-administered prostate massage unless you are a urologist or body work expert. There is no comparison between HIH and the products offered by the other company that posted a link. Thank you for your consideration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grassroots17 (talkcontribs)

George Harbottle edit

Sometime ago (March 2006), you asked whether George Harbottle was notable. Initially, I thought "Yes, if he invented jeweled watches, then he sure is notable." However, some facts in the article started to smell fishy. Upon further research and much discussion, we flushed out the hoaxster. I thought you might enjoy reviewing the chronicle of the hunt if you haven't been doing so already.

Happy editing.

P.S. I have no idea what a "numbnuts" is and hadn't really thought about it until you asked me. I guess I should be more careful when slinging around epithets like that.

Blocking 216.114.70.163 edit

Hello. I'm a high school student at MICDS, the school that owns the aforementioned IP address. I am quite disappointed with my fellow students' use of wikipedia, and believe that your blocking of the IP address was completely acceptable. In fact, I think it would be a good idea to block our IP altogether. Those of us who seriously contribute to wikipedia from school mostly have our own accounts, so it's not too much of a hassle for us, and it will eliminate generalized edits from other vandalizing students, forcing them to create an account of their own: one that can be their responsibility to maintain. Let me know what you think about this. Clarkefreak 14:22, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:User:MillipediaNES edit

I blocked that user as part of a mass blocking of sockpuppet vandals. I.e. lots of usernames vandalising a small group of articles with exactly the same bit of vandalism in each one. Having a look know I see that it was this and this that made me block this user. As you pointed out it seems like MillipediaNES has actually made some useful edits as well, so I'll WP:AGF, issue a warning and unblock. Another reason to thank you for pointing this out- just noticed that the other user (User:GoGoGodzilla) I pointed out in the above diff slipped through the net, so I've just applied a block on that account. Cheers, Petros471 20:01, 18 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

And you even removed the block template for me :) I did actually think 'I need to do that', and then promptly forgot to do so :O Petros471 20:32, 18 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Copied from WP:AN for my reference edit

Re: User:Futureobservatory's edits:

I've been reverting some of User:Futureobservatory's edits, which are large swaths of text he claims are his own work ([2], [3], [4], multiple others), from [5]. He has been asked multiple times to provide proof of who he is, but he has not responded. User:Flammifer even started an RFC, but that failed to get his attention. I just messaged Futureobservatory that if he continues to copy text into articles, he will be banned. --Fang Aili 說嗎? 16:12, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

If he persists, it should be noted that an email address and phone number appear on [6] as well as on the site hosted by the matching ip. A quick phone call or note could determine if he is in fact the wikipedian in question. --Charlie( @CIRL | talk | email ) 15:07, 21 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Polk Audio edit

I also received an email from one of the people from Polk Audio who had created the article. My email reply pointed to my comments at talk:Polk Audio (which has now been deleted, but was there for a couple of weeks). There I pointed to the appropriate policy pages (Wikipedia:Copyrights, etc.). The answer in a nutshell is that the Wikipedia can only use text in the public domain or licenced to it under the GNU Free Document License. The text at Polk Audio that they copied is clearly NOT in the public domain, and the assurance that we will not get sued from some peon in the PR dept. is clearly NOT a GFDL, so that text can not be used. The text was pretty PR fluffy anyway, so it would probably have to be extensively rewritten anyway if they ever did get permission from Polk Audio to license it to the Wikipedia, so they would be better off writing a much better ENCYCLOPEDIA article with more facts, dates, examples of products, etc. (from another Wikipedian currently snowed under in RL) BlankVerse 05:57, 23 May 2006 (UTC) [PS: Although I'm currently approaching 10,000 total edits, I am not an administrator.]Reply

Hmm, should I incorporate some show/hide divs then? They could be used for the long sections, such as to-do, pages that are being worked on, member list, and so on. I'll try for a light blue (ice) color scheme as you suggested. However, I'm afraid I'll have to postpone it just a tiny bit until I get home; no time to do it now as I'm in school. Hi, any particular reason you want to keep that "see also" link to Sirtaki in the Tsamiko article? I can assure you the two dances have very little to do with each other (except for the fact that non-Greeks tend to confuse all Greek dances with Sirtaki, an idea that Greeks find utterly absurd. ;-) I'm also not quite sure why you found the more detailed description of the character of the dance superfluous, I only now saw it and it struck me as fairly well written and to the point. Speedy tag removal edit

May I ask why you removed the db-author tag from Clove leaf oil? I'm pretty sure that it's within the guidelines, both on the basis of db-author and the fact that nothing links to it. Thanks. Waitak 14:16, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

It was redirecting to Clove (if I recall correctly), and that seemed a reasonable redirect, so I kept it. Cheers. --Fang Aili talk 14:19, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. I created the link in the first place to have something to point at from List of vegetables. The goal is to replace links like Clove leaf oil with links like Clove leaf oil (which should look like Carrot seed oil), to make it obvious to the reader that, while there is no article on the oil per se, there is a more general article that might be helpful. If we don't delete the redirect, then it's not possible for the reader to tell. I thought that deleting was reasonable, since nothing but that article references it. May I request that you reinstate the delete? Waitak 14:29, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Is there anything I ought to have done to avoid a similar misunderstanding in other delete requestions? Waitak 14:44, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

re:Welcome Back edit

Yeah, that must have been unpleasent, discovering that I'm back by being discussed at at WP:AN. Heh, disgruntled users. ;-) Lol, 2007. Hope I make it until then. Cheers! The King of Kings 17:56, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not signing as King of Hearts, I'm signing as The King of Kings. ;-) Oh and because, I like the song. I play it while I edit Wikipedia. ;-) The King of Kings 22:23, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sports palace edit

You are quite welcome. In future, if you create an article related to Russia, please list it at Portal:Russia/New article announcements—that's the best way to get the article noticed by Russians. As a matter of fact, I only spotted the one on the Sports Palace because someone else listed it there. Cheers!—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 15:52, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
