- Hi Ed: I have noticed the bot removals of your links, and have checked out the content to see if there is an actual problem (as opposed to the ones imagined by the bot). I'm afraid the bot may have a point, since you cite copyrighted material without indicating that you have permission to do so. Take a look at WP:ELNEVER and see what you think. Apart from this potential legal problem, I think your blog discussions are interesting and useful to readers, as well as being attractive in appearance, so it is a shame these links are encountering a problem.—Jerome Kohl (talk) 17:22, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi Jerry!
Nice to make contact with a Stockhausen scholar. As you noticed the bots removed my external links to my blog entries, I had assumed that the bots remove links to blogs as a rule, but since the information seemed otherwise appropriate I re-added a couple. As far as the rights issue, I received permission from Kathinka at Stockhausen-Siftung to use their images on the blog, and she reviews each blog post upon publication. That wasn't explicit on the page, but now I added "Thanks very much to Stockhausen Verlag for allowing usage of images from CDs and scores." in the Bloggers Note section. Would that suffice?
The scores for the early works are published by Universal Edition (thanks for the correction on MIXTUR, that one slipped past me!) and I don't have contact with them (and probably won't), so could I add links to blog posts without UE images?
Speaking of rights, I used an image of the LICHT nuclear formula from your "Into the Middleground: Formula Syntax in Stockhausen's LICHT" article. Could I get your permission to use that? I think that's the only image of yours I've used, other places where I used some insight from you I cited with your name.

- I suggest you contact the bot controller on his Talk page and discuss this issue. I am not completely au fait with the intricacies of Wikipedia copyright-infringement policies, and so am reluctant to offer an opinion about what would satisfy the watchers. In the present case, I think you have ruffled some feathers by repeatedly ignoring their warning shots across the bow, and it may take some negotiating to get back in their good graces. You might also ask at the Village pump for some guidelines on what constitutes an acceptable blog link. While you are at it, you might ask what I need to provide you to authorize use of that image. Hi Jerry Yeah, I didn't receive any notifications about the first link I added so I had no idea this was an issue, until I did a few more today and then next time I went to my email I saw all these Wikipedia warning emails for the first time, so I wasn't exactly ignoring them. In any case at this point I think I'll just back off a bit, this is my first experience as a Wiki contributor and I think I should probably read more of the rules and regulations before proceeding... - As a new user, there are a few things you need to know. One is to read the "edit summaries", especially when the editor in question has reverted one of your edits. Simply reverting again is regarded as "edit warring", and does nothing to satisfy the other editor of your good faith. Remember that the only way people will know you are not a highly experienced editor is by looking at your user page, and it is a lot easier to shoot first and ask questions later, in spite of guidelines like this. This does not mean you should retire from the field! Most editors will understand your situation (after all, we were all newcomers at some point) and will be only too glad to help you to learn. If you don't ask, you may be told eventually, but it may not be in as civil a tone as you would like. Article "talk" pages are always worth checking before making any dramatic changes to articles, though adding external links should not fall under that heading. They are also good places to ask questions, or to notify other users who have already been working on those pages that you intend to make changes they may have issues about. Above all, assume good faith (at least until proved otherwise), even from bot editors that may seem intent on running you over first and then backing up to finish the job!—Jerome Kohl (talk) 22:07, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi Jerry Thanks for the information (and sympathy)! The "undo-undo" was just based on hastily thinking a bot had given a false positive. Actually after reading the guidelines a bit more I realized that I also have a "Conflict of Interest" issue by posting external links to pages which I actually manage myself - which is totally understandable considering the necessary objectivity upon which Wikipedia is based on. Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Zyklus. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it.

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Mikrophonie (Stockhausen). It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia.

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you insert a spam link, as you did at Mixtur. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.
