Joe R. Pool edit

I have extensively edited this article that had been greatly expanded by you. I have removed much content that was not written in an appropriate tone for an encyclopedia, much of which appears to have been copied verbatim from other sources (although I was not able to identify the sources). Please keep Wikipedia copyright guidelines in mind: you may not copy text directly from other sources. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:23, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you I am trying to get used to the format and greatly appreciate your help! Eclary444 (talk) 15:38, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

You have added content to this article cited to "Joe Pool Family Archives". What exactly are these archives, and how might I access them? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:03, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

From your subsequent edit, I take it these are personal records of Rep. Pool held by his family? Unless they are available for inspection by the general public (i.e. held in a public repository like a library) they are not a valid source. The purpose of citing a source at Wikipedia is to allow other editors the opportunity to check the source to verify the cited information. If the source is not available for other editors to reference, how can we verify the content? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:16, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Is the PDF we provide not enough to verify the content? Eclary444 (talk) 19:14, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
These are records (mostly articles) help by Rep. Pool's family and that we have provided as a PDF in the content. If we missed a PDF please let me know but we are trying to make sure to provide the articles to verify the information. Eclary444 (talk) 19:15, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Personal records that have been scanned as PDFs are not reliable sources. I could type a document and scan it and purport that it was a letter from me to the president, but there would be no real way to know. I would also say (my own opinion, not a policy-based issue) that you are providing too much detail regarding Pool's service on the Natural Resources Advisory Committee. I would recommend that you reduce this verbiage to a simple statement to the effect that Pool used his time on the Advisory Committee to advocate for flood control measures in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
On a related note, since you have access to the Pool family archives, may I ask if you are related to Rep Pool? If so, you have a conflict of interest and you must declare that. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:48, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Citation used at Joe R. Pool edit

In the Joe R. Pool article, there is a citation listed as Vander Hill, Bryan. A Biographical Sketch of Joe Pool. Department of History 3363: Dr. Lackman Can you expand on this: what is this work, and how would one access it? I find no references to this book title at Google books, Google scholar or WorldCat.
