NBL boxscores and Coaches edit

Hi DI2000,

While I appreciate having other fans contributing to the NBL wiki articles, I would be a lot more content if I was informed personally before big changes are made e.g. removing the Regular Season and Finals Series boxscores entirely from the main article, or removing the Coaching Records completely etc.

If there are going to be linked pages to the Regular Season and Finals Series, I think this needs to be uniform across all NBL seasons. Before I even started making my first change, so many NBL seasons were displaying differently to a whole lot of others. Not sure if you have been focusing on just the recent seasons, or older seasons as well. The older seasons have the boxscores in the main article. But I can go in and create separate articles for each of those that don't have them yet. That isn't a big deal for me, uniformity is the big one for me.

As for the Coaches part, this was put in because not every game is actually coached by the Head Coach. There have been many reasons for this: illness, personal or travel reasons, or in the case of Barry Barnes when he was Boomers coach, being away with the Boomers. In these cases, the Assistant Coach took over. There were even times when Al Westover had to fill in for Lindsay Gaze when he was on the FIBA board and had to fly overseas for important FIBA duties.

So while this info might seem redundant (especially when the Head Coach for each team has actually coached every game during a season), this should still be included. Once I have assigned every last game to the corresponding coach on my pdf file, I will publish a separate article that has the complete ladder of Coaching Records and the link will be attached to each NBL article. I literally have about 10-20 games left to confirm before I do so. It had been pretty tedious, but I am getting there.

So my research has been quite extensive when it comes to Coaches. This isn't something I have just slapped together. So the straight-up deletion of this info annoyed me a little.

I can see that you have put in a lot of contributions in for the NBL pages, which is great. But a heads-up, or even a quick chat would be great. I am always open to hearing other people's opinions :)

Thanks

PS I mean no offense by everything I have written. So please don't think I am attacking you at all :)

Hi, sorry about the delay in my response.
Sorry if I caused any offence with the quick removal of some of the content you added to 2019–20 NBL season. None was intended, and it's great to see someone helping out with the NBL articles (particularly the historical ones which desperately need more work done).
Each season does kind off have it's own style because of the different technologies and templates that were made available to the various authors, for example the 1998 NBL season style for boxscores is different to the ones used in more recent seasons (2019–20 NBL regular season), and even differs from articles within the same season (2019–20 Adelaide 36ers season). Last season I also introduced the new ladder style (Template:NBL Ladder 2020–21) which is much easier for editors to adjust, but varies greatly from the old ladder styles. The older seasons haven't been updated to match the current format as no-one has gone back to update them, and instead focused on the current season (which considering that the article style changes from season to season would need a bit of work).
I understand that you have done a lot of research into the NBL with stats, however Wikipedia isn't a place to publish endless stats (per WP:NOTSTATS, which I'll admit I've been caught out by in the past and have had articles deleted for it). For the coaches statistics specifically, I can understand where you are coming from, but my concern is that not every season is impacted by this. Would you be happy with just putting these in the affected season so the unaffected articles don't get unnecessarily pushed closer to the WP:NOTSTATS category? Broadcasted edit

Hi DI2000, I have reverted your change at 2020–21 NBL season, because broadcast is the simple past tense and past participle of broadcast.
The Wiktionary definition of Broadcasted states the use is sometimes proscribed, so it should not be used. The word also appears on Wikipedia:Lists_of_common_misspellings/B

Broadcasted appears in some dictionaries, but others, e.g. Chambers state "Sorry, no entries for Broadcasted were found".
Broadcast appears in all dictionaries, and should be used as per COMMONALITY - "Wikipedia tries to find words that are common to all varieties of English".

Tasmania JackJumpers all-time roster moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Tasmania JackJumpers all-time roster, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 00:39, 9 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

DMY/MYD Format edit

Hello, I noticed you have been using the dmy format and changing mdy formats on the Josh Giddey page. Just thought to let you know that the standard for NBA pages is to use mdy format, so let's use that moving forward. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 07:07, 27 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Nintendoswitchfan: Per MOS:DATEUNIFY and the Use dmy dates tag attached to the article I corrected those dates to follow the Australian standard and how the dates in the rest of the article is formatted. The date format follows the article, not the topic of that section, and the format needs to follow the overall article topic, in this case the topic of an Australian basketball player (like I said, per MOS:DATEUNIFY the format needs to be consistent throughout the entire article). I edit most of the pages for the Australian league and we follow the same rules, mdy for articles about American players and dmy for all other players, the format doesn't change based on where the player is playing. The dmy format has been used for all other Australian NBA player articles (Andrew Bogut, Patty Mills, Ben Simmons, etc.) not only in the NBA related sections, but also in the references of those sections, which is why I corrected those dates as there is no Giddey-specific reason to detour from those precedents. I've reverted your edits to go back to following the Manual of Styles and the precedents. If you have any specific reason to move away from those precedents and the manual of styles then lets discuss this on Giddey's talk page so that we can reach a consensus. DylanI00 (talk) 02:47, 28 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Understood on this. My apologies as I was unaware of this general rule, noting for future reference. Thanks.Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 07:12, 6 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of List of NBL1 seasons edit

The article List of NBL1 seasons has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Dormant unnecessary page that is difficult to keep track of and source properly for a semi-pro league with many conferences

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
