When I saw your spellchecking list, I thought "ah good, a list, I need one of those". So I snapped it up, integrated it with Mboverload's and a few others I had lying around, and went off to test my new bot with it. Now although this is a manually assisted bot, and all edits are human-examined before saving, the human in this case was taking it on trust that these lists did in fact contain spelling errors, and not merely words that happen to be spelt differently outside of the US. But then I found this line:

Unfortunately, I didn't realize this was incorrect until I'd already corrected an article. At which point it was too late. I was promptly shouted at by an angry Irishman. Now that's not an experience I wish to repeat, and I'm sure you don't either, so I suggest you remove the line as soon as possible. Thanks – Gurch 22:27, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I've apologised for the shouting. I thought there was a bot on the loose with a malfunction that was going to change spellings all over the place (again). :) (Those bots are getting increasingly annoying.) Licenced is perfectly correct. FearÉIREANN\^(caint) 22:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I sincerely apologise for all the trouble this has caused both of you (and, of course, the shouting). I have removed this line and a similar one from my spellcheck list. Could you tell me how you managed to merge my script and mboverload's? My script currently isn't working at all (it breaks spelling, not corrects it! I highly suggest you check your contribs for similar changes). Maybe monitoring AWB changes can prevent the wrath of angry irishmen... :) --Draicone ^(talk) 08:12, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I mentioned how to merge them above. ;) You need to add \b tags at the beginning and ends of most of your words. That fixed the "break the spelling" issues for me. — RevRagnarok ^{Talk Contrib Reverts} 10:14, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Turns out it's not entirely your fault – "licenced" has been listed as a misspelling on Wikipedia:List of common misspellings/For machines since November 2002! Somehow nobody spotted it. Anyway, it's gone now – Gurch 11:42, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. When I went to remove it just now it was gone, probably a good sign. Having simply converted that list en masse using macros (in Notepad++) I couldn't really check each line. mboverload took a really good approach by manually adding each line of mine into his to maintain quality control :) --Draicone ^(talk) 12:28, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Quick note - feel free to delete when done reading

Note that the replace list is actually updated daily - sometimes many times a day - to fix problems and add new words. These problems can be important.

Please check for a new version each and every time you use AWB. Add a bookmark to the top of your favorites. That will ensure you always have the best, most complete, bug-free version. Or you can get the same exact version I'm using at that second by using Subversion. You get to see how I work, change, and develop the list, edit by edit, since it shows you the differences between versions. All old versions of the list can be shown so you can see the progress the list has made. If you need any help setting this up, it's actually really easy, I'd be glad to help you out.

Download the latest releases all the time from the project page. Please update right now. Several problems have been found and fixed, and many many words have now been added.

It isn't my page, I'm merely wikifying. I suppose it really doesn't conform to WP:WEB and WP:CORP, but your initial concern about deleting it was related to the fact that all the links at the bottom of the page went to the same site, and that issue was fixed. Your moonbook.js is on Category:Candidates for speedy deletion

False Accuations?

Hello. A couple of days ago while I was browsing Wikipedia, I saw some yellow message on top saying I had a new message. I wasn't a member at all, so I found this weird. But, there must have been a reason for this, so I clicked on it. It said thank you for your contribution to Wikipedia...something like that. But, I never edited any articles. I ignored it, thinking it might have been just a minor mistake, seeing how the message was to an annoymous user.

Today, I saw there was another message. "Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. --Draicone 05:59, 5 July 2006 (UTC)"

Ok, I looked at this message. First, once again, I never edtied any articles at all. Second, um, what's with the date of the message? I didn't see it until today.

I'm not an expert when it comes to the internet and IP addresses and stuff, but I knew that it was surely a mistake when the message was directed at my IP address. I don't know whether you have the wrong IP address or something, but I know I'm being falsely accused. There must be some mistake. I only use Wikipedia to look up information, but I never edited an article at all. (There was this one time I clicked on the edit button by mistake, but I didn't make any changes to the article.)

Either way, I knew somethng was wrong and I had to contact you. So today, I created an account to talk to you about this. Please look into this. It's weird enough having messages directed at me that...well, don't apply to me. It's even more weird when a message saying I did vandilism here. Sorry if I didn't give a good amount of information. There was also something when I clicked the last change link in the message.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I am a member of the Counter-vandalism unit and regularly patrol the recent changes reverting vandalism. The issue with warning IPs is that they are somewhat anonymous - IPs can change very frequently. It would appear that I have warned your IP for vandalism, however the vandal has adopted a new IP address and you have incorrectly received the blame for their actions. The best you could possibly do in this situation is register, which you have, so there is really nothing more that can be done. I have commented out those warnings from your IPs talk page. In this edit, your edit summary claims you are doing disambiguation link repair, but instead the edit is the addition of a cleanup noticebox. Due to the confused nature of the edit, and additionally because I do not think the article needs the cleanup you suggest, I have removed the noticebox. Thankyou for pointing this out to me. I am currently doing disambiguation link repair on the keyword 'domain', which is featured on this article (Diagonal functor). However, when I saw that article I felt it needed Wikification for, at the least, making basic layout improvements (sections etc.). However, as an admin, I trust your judgement and therefore will not be adding the tag again. I have now corrected the disambiguation link. --Draicone ^(talk) 23:23, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

You don't have to defer to my judgement because I'm an admin. Adminship does not entail any extra weight in deciding article content. On the other hand, I am the sole author of that article, so I like to think that my opinion as an editor about how it should look would carry some weight.

The disambiguation fix is valuable; thank you for doing it. Additionally, thank you for your consideration about the edit summary usage. As for whether the article needs more wikification markup, it may be true. I usually do include such markup, but in this case the obvious sectioning did not jump out at me, so I left it out. But it may still be needed. If you think so, you should add your cleanup alertbox back (with an accurate edit summary). I suppose to be a good citizen on Wikipedia it also needs to cite its sources as well. I guess as the sole author of the article, I should feel some responsibility for providing these things. On closer inspection, the article does not seem to need sections in fact. As the content of the article flows well, there really is very little point in splitting it up, and there is not too much content anyway - a few paragraphs without sections is fine. As per the value of your opinion, it is my opinion that as an Admin the consensus of the Wikipedia community has trusted you to use your judgement on decisions requiring admin input (blocks, article protection etc.). As a result, I can safely assume you are not a vandal deliberatly reverting my edits, and you are not an uninformed member of the community who thinks a wikification box makes their article look bad. There are other articles needing much more Wikification so I'll leave the page unmarked for now, and if it needs some attention I might wikify it later. --Draicone ^(talk) 07:00, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi SBOEy. Nice to see you're getting used to Wikipedia. The comment on your talk page was from an anonymous user, editing without logging in (most likely because they have not, and do not intend to, register). There are guidelines for treating newcomers like anon editors who would like to 'join' Wikipedia (without realising that they are already a Wikipedian) but I suppose its a bit unfair to expect you to know things like that anyway. Good to see you signed with five tildes (~~~) but remember to make sure you sign with 4 (~~~~) so that your username is included as well. For just your username (not reccommended) use 3 (~~~). Christmas comes early for RegExTypoFix users

Well it's 2 AM on West Coast USA. California, homies. We all surf (even the 8 billion illegal immigrants). Los Angeles is just like they show it in GTA: San Andreas (but with more hookers). Oh yeah, and we only have one season. We call it "perfect".

Anyway, it is RETF Christmas Secular Celebration Day, and I'm not failing to deliver. I'm saying good bye to converting that whole list over. It's full of misspellings that aren't misspellings and words that aren't ever misspelled. From now on this is my method for finding new words:

1. Spellcheck a random word from the existing list
2. Open any article where it corrects more than 1 word
3. Load it into Microsoft Word and spellcheck
4. See how many times it shows up in Wikipedia using AWB
5. If it shows up more than 6 times I'll put it into dictionary.com to make sure it's not a real word
6. Integrate all versions of a word into regular expressions using dictionary.com as a reference

You can do this too and get thanked in the section below! It really works well!

RegExTypoFix is now completely built into AutoWikiBrowser

Yes, that's right. My little project has now been integrated into Wikipedia's most famous utility. This expands my reach to around ~250 active users!

• But mboverload, what does this mean? - It means that Wikipedia is going to suck less! Yay!
• What do I do? - Download the latest version of AWB and go to More Options > Enable RegExTypoFix. Then go to then in the Start tab > Summary dropdown box select RegExTypoFix
• What happened to including your name in it? How am I going to praise you with every edit? You mean "mboverload's RegExTypoFix"? Oh, just stick it in there, and complain on the AWB talkpage if you want my name in there standard =P.
• How did this come about? Why wasn't I told? - Because it was secret. I have known about this for about a week I think. Putting my typofixing into AWB was suggested in the talk page, however people talking about including spellchecking in AWB has gone back awhile. Martin, the creator and only developer of AWB, informed me and I was absolutely flattered. I now have developer access to AWB so I can update AWB with the latest RETF without having to bother him.
• What about updates and the newsletter?
  • All updates are just going to be small files with the latest new words and fixes. When AWB updates just throw out the file until I release the next supplemental update.
  • I will be releasing the full RegExTypoFix, however it's going to be in the format that AWB uses it and not in its settings xml format. It's way easier to read, though.
  • You'll still be getting the newsletter, full of keen insights into the wiki hivemind and commentary on mind-body meta relationships.
• mboverload, how long HAVE you worked on RETF anyway? I estimate 50 hours. Using my most accurate method of finding and verifying typos nets me 20 new lines an hour. This does NOT include the hours I've spent testing it.
• Where can I find a list of typos to fix? User:Mboverload/RegExTypoFix/full
