Hello - I'm Baffled!

edit

I rarely edit Wikipedia. When I do, it's usually to straighten out a sentence to make it more coherent. Today, I logged in and read that I had a new message - from April of 2010. What the? It's now August of 2012. The message: "Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing. Dlohcierekim 02:20, 7 April 2010 (UTC)"

I've no idea what this refers to, if this is glitch, the result of a shared IP address or a mis-identification of an edit. As I say, I only edit for clarity, never to gut and article, insert idiotic opinions, and I don't consider myself a vandal. If the message I received is ancient history that isn't worth looking into, that's fine by me. I'm not bothered because I'm pretty sure this is an inexplicable Wikipedia hiccup. Otherwise, keep on editing and keep Wikipedia sailing! — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheStockwell (talkcontribs) 05:06, 24 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2012 August 27

edit

For List of unreleased Lana Del Rey songs, can you please give me your opinion? Am I delusional or what? Because this article was deleted per WP:LISTN, but it follows WP:LISTN? So I'm 100000% confused why everyone's nominating and saying it doesn't follow policy. I honestly have absolutely no idea. You can see my comment at the bottom of the review. The reliable sources are very reliable so... I don't get it. --MrIndustry (talk) 05:01, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

It seems to be the issues are notability and sourcing. The consensus is that as a group, the items on the list are not notable. As they have not been released, they have not attained notability. No argument was successfully made that they were. Behind that is the sourcing problem. The consensus was that there is an insurmountable lack of WP:RS for the contents. The arguments for deletion were thorough and well supported. Arguments such as "valuable information" and "frequently updated" are never compelling, especially when sourcing is in doubt. The closing admin did appear to leave open the possibility of adding any items that have WP:RS to another page, though it might be best to obtain consensus on that pages talk first. Sorry I could not be more helpful. Dlohcierekim 13:24, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
But that's what I don't get, because the sources are reliable. They're MTV, ASCAP, HFA, BMI, Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Seacrest, Glamour Magazine, Huffington Post, etc. I don't get how List of unreleased Britney Spears songs and List of unreleased Michael Jackson material can be featured lists with so unreliable sources?? My whole thing was Lana still performs these songs and Britney never will/never did.--MrIndustry (talk) 15:51, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Apparently the other participants did not agree w/ your assessment of the sources. Dlohcierekim 16:43, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
I don't mean to sound rude/condescending to them, but would they like it written in the constitution? Because Hollywood Reporter, MTV, and Huffington Post are some of the top news sites in the world. If they're not reliable then I don't know what sources are. --MrIndustry (talk) 17:59, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well if he's WP:vanished, I don't think you can continue the conflict resolution if it's with that user? An editorial conflict RE: a specific article might be best on the T:article in question. Dear Dlohcierekim

You made a lot of great edits in my article in past. I got a problem again, I don't know why, but just recently somebody from French editors put a deletion tag on my article about Giorgi Latsabidze. I need to ask you to look the article again and let me know what can we fix. I would very much appreciate if you can help with. I really put so much efforts in past, i believe there must be a solution for this. This guy is talking about unreliable sources in article, however I do find a lot of reliable sources which can not be disregarded. Also the editors (and admins including you) who made contributions helped this article to become more encyclopedic. I would appreciate your advice and feel free to edit it. AN discussion

edit

Hi, I've added some comments to the discussion at Wikipedia:An#indian_castes_and_CSD:A1. I see that the underlying dispute has also been running at Arya Vaishya. Working on Indian caste articles is probably what I am best known for here - as User:Sitush - but I am still recovering from an operation and am not going to be based at home/capable of my usual input for a while yet. It might be worth soliciting the opinions of Salvio giuliano, Qwyrxian and Boing! said Zebedee, all of whom have/had held the bit and have quite a lot of experience in dealing with these outbreaks of inter-caste rivalry/forking etc. I'll certainly get to grips with it when I do return but things are likely to spiral out of control quite substantially before that happens.--2.219.218.79 (talk) 17:12, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree. But the content is significantly different. The person is likely the same, but the claim to significance, if there is one, is different. Hello Robin. The first problem is your purpose appears to be to promote your company rather than build our encyclopedia. This is a Conflict of Interest. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Content of articles needs to be supported by reliable information from sources unconnected with the subject. I cannot overemphasize this. It is the key to building the encyclopedia. The article as it sits is promotional in tone. It looks like it was taken from a corporate "about" page. It should begin with declarative sentences that show recognition of the subject, by outsiders, of it's importance, significance, notability. For instance, "George Washington was President of the United States." Please see the general notability guideline for what is considered notable. There are more specific guidelines, such as WP:CORP that pertain to businesses. You should work on the article in a sandbox in your userspace until it is ready. Or use the article wizard. Unfortunately, you are using your business' name as a user name. You must select a name unique to yourself. Hope this helps. Dlohcierekim 16:35, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hello, when I started working on the article about a week ago, it had no independent sources and was packed full of promotional language. I have trimmed it considerably, and added four references which support most of the information in the article. I am curious why you felt it necessary to add a refimprove tag to an article with four references? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:47, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, you've made a big difference in the thing. But I was unsure of which content was supported. If all the content is supported by sources, then never mind. I intend to look for more, if i can find them. Unfortunately, I worked last night and am not fully recovered. Do as you think best, because it's a darn sight better than it was. Ugh, getting sleepy again. Thanks, Dlohcierekim 21:20, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Question About Article on Hbmdb

edit

Hi i wrote an article on a website by keeping in view of the page Bollywod hungama but my article was tagged A7 although it was much more informative then this one. Any suggestions?

It read like an advertisement. It did not indicate significance. It did not have information from reliable, 3rd party sources that would indicate it is notable in the narrow, encyclopedic sense we use on wikipedia. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Subject should be encyclopedic and article should be based on what reliable media with a reputation for fact checking have written. Reviews, news media, books, journals are potential sources.`19:14, 26 August 2013 (UTC) Dlohcierekim 19:15, 26 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
