Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Davidhertzbergmusic. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 19:42, 17 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: The Rose Elf (opera) has been accepted edit

The Rose Elf (opera), which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.

The article has been assessed as Stub-Class, which is recorded on its talk page. It is commonplace for new articles to start out as stubs and then attain higher grades as they develop over time. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

Since you have made at least 10 edits over more than four days, you can now create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for creation if you prefer.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation.

If you would like to help us improve this process, please consider leaving us some feedback.

Thanks again, and happy editing!

March 2021 edit

As previously advised, your edits, such as the edit you made to The Wake World, give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You are asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Davidhertzbergmusic, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Davidhertzbergmusic|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Ifnord (talk) 22:35, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Nick Moyes (talk) 06:09, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

To whom it may concern, I would like to request that the block on my account be lifted, which I believe was the result of a technical misunderstanding on my part, as someone new to this side of Wikipedia and not very tech savvy. I am not being paid to edit, nor have I created articles other than The Rose Elf (opera), as was alleged on one message board. I am the musician in question (David Hertzberg), and it was my intention to disclose my conflict of interest with my username. I am just now figuring out how talk pages work, and understand now what was being requested of me, and that I should have disclosed my conflict on interest here. It was not my intention to misinform or to mislead, rather, to create a brief article about one work that resembled another already extant article about a similar work, which was written by someone else. I am happy to cease editing articles about or related to my works, or to make suggestions through those articles' talk pages. While I am new to Wikipedia as a contributor, as an avid reader it has nourished me for years, and I very much want to remedy this situation however possible. Thank you so kindly for your understanding.Davidhertzbergmusic (talk) 09:07, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Decline reason:

David, firstly my apologies for the delay in responding to your unblock request, which I have only just seen. I'm sorry if this has left you worrying all day. Please understand that I have only given you a 'soft block' - I'm not trying to stop you editing at all, and you are not prevented from creating a new user account and starting editing again. I encourage you to do that, please, simply by abandoning this account, forgetting the password, and creating a new one. The problem is that davidherzbergermusic is the name of your website, and neither I and others will have no way of knowing if you work alone, or run it as a business, with other employees or helpers. We have to assume the latter and, unfortunately, this hits one of our key policies in which we require one person to have one unique account each, and not to share it with anyone else. That, combined with the fact that it also comes across as a promotional username means I felt obliged to place that block. You can read more on these policies at this page: WP:USERNAME. I would be happy for you to choose a name such as DavidatHerzbergerMusic (or similar), but the key thing is that it is only seen to be being used by yourself alone. Having done that, yes, you will still need to declare your business interests on your new userpage, as explained at WP:PAID. For pages you have a direct interest in, it is preferable if you made an WP:EDITREQUEST on the relevant talk page. I will monitor this page in case you want to ask me any questions, though you will get a quicker reply if you are able to 'ping' me so that I get an alert. There's details explaining that process at WP:PING. I'm sorry we are so process-driven. I do not want to discourage you from making the right kind of contributions here. Kind regards,Nick Moyes (talk) 23:28, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
