Big Five edit

Hi, Dale. I see you've just started an article on The "Big Five" mass extinctions. I wouldn't want to discourage you (quite the opposite!), but I also wouldn't want you to waste your energy and enthusiasm on something that might already be covered fairly well by some combination of existing articles. You might want to check out Extinction event, which lists and summarises the Big Five, and links to individual articles on them.

I also notice your user page User:Dale S. Satre is empty at the moment. It might help if you list the subjects you're interested in. For example if you're interested in paleontology, fossils, etc., specify what periods or types or organism or whatever you are most interested in. That will help others to let you know where contributions are needed (sometimes quite desperately). -- Philcha (talk) 18:27, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

In response to your query, the best way to ask for help at the extinction WikiProject is to leave a message on their discussion page - Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Extinction. You can reach a "talk page" about any page, including users, articles and wikiprojects, using the tab at the top of the screen; this is usually the best way to get community input about your ideas, or to put forwards anything you're not certain of!
Best of luck! Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 18:40, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Help edit

I noticed that you placed a "helpme" tag on User talk:Levine2112. If you want help, place the helpme tag on your own talk page, not someone else's. Also, please sign your posts. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 16:42, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Writing about a book on wikipedia edit

I noticed the helpme template on another talk page, have a read through WP:BK to determine whether your article should be included on the project, regards —— RyanLupin(talk) 16:43, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

To "John CD" edit

When I was editing/writing "Shooting to the Moon," I was annoyed when I got into an editing conflict with you. But once I saw your corrections, my anger dissapeared. Thank you!--Dale S. Satre 17:17, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Posting a book edit

{{helpme}} I am writing Shooting at the Moon (book). This website contains the picture of the book I want to post on the web page: [1]. However, i have a limited account, which prohibits me from doing such an action. Can an administrator post the the picture for me? (If copyright law prohibits this, I urge you to abort postage.) --Dale S. Satre 17:58, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

  • You don't have to be an admin to upload the pic. Just keep making more edits to articles and your account should be autoconfirmed. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 23:33, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • Actually, you should be able to upload pictures now, unless you use Tor to edit Wikipedia. You should be able to upload pics after your account is 4 days old, and you have 10 edits, both of which you exceed [2]. Tor users' accounts have to be 90 days old, and have 100 edits before being able to do this though. If you look in the toolbox at the far left, there should be links such as "Special Pages", "What links here", etc. and one of these will be "Upload file" if you can access it. I hope this helps some more, :-) Stwalkerstertalk ] 23:38, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Red and Green edit

{{helpme}} On my watchlist, there are red and green fonts inside parentheses that say, like (-412) or (+341). What are they?

Again? edit

{{helpme}} Alright, I was able to upload the image of the cover, but now it is somehere else! (Image:Shooting at the Moon.jpg, to be exact.) How would I get the picture onto the article.--Dale S. Satre 00:01, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Like that :P. Just put a normal link to it. Alternatively, you can do this: (look at the code in the edit window)

I've just taken the copyrighted image off your talk page - the examples are still there though. :-) Stwalkerstertalk ] 00:08, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Table of contents edit

{{helpme}} Even though the chapters of the article are almost none, I will be adding a table of contents soon. How do I add one on?--Dale S. Satre 00:21, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

  • I'm not sure if that's really relevant to the article (most book articles don't have the table), but you should be able just to type it out by hand. By the way, you don't need to keep using the helpme template, you can just ask on the article's talk page, or on my talk page. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 00:24, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • TenPoundHammer apparently thought you referred to the table of contents for the book itself. I guess you meant the table of contents for the article Shooting at the Moon (book). As you may have discovered by now, the table of contents appears automatically when there are at least 4 section headings. See more at Help:Section. Passwords and accounts edit

I am just curious, but do editors and administrators have access into members' accounts?

Vandalism Charges edit

{{helpme}} This guy named Area51 Director is messing up one of my articles, Shooting at the Moon (book). I looked up his talk page, but he only says he really is the boss there! I am in the military, but I have no enemies. Perhaps he didn't like the book, but if this is not the case, I do not know why he chose my article to wreak havoc on. What could I do?--Dale S. Satre 01:23, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

HAHA edit

This Area 51 director is no longer Director!!! (Of vandalism, that is!) Thanks for blocking him.--Dale S. Satre 01:33, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Removal and Replacement edit

{{helpme}} Can somebody help me with these two problems?: 1.) Right next to my military aircraft portal, there is the "I}" or "{I" or something like that. When I edit my page, it doesn't show up so I can delete it. Can somebody show me where it is? 2.) Even though on my user pages' edit page has the portals in alligned order, the portals are in random placements. Can somebody allign them into columns for me, or show me how?--Dale S. Satre 01:57, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Dale, both problems are related to your use of template boxboxbottom. If you place {{boxboxtop}} at the beginning of your userboxes and move {{boxboxbottom}} to the end of the list they should all line up nicely. If you're still having issues after trying this then you can ask me any more questions on my user page or add another {{helpme}} to get more help from another user. Timeline of algebra edit

Quite aside from other issues in this page move, why capitalize the initial t in Algebra Timeline? I already moved the page from the clearly incorrect Timeline of Algebra with the incorrectly capitalized A to Timeline of algebra with lower-case a. Now I've moved it again to Algebra timeline with a lower-case initial t. Michael Hardy (talk) 05:25, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
