RE:Larry Vickers edit

Please don't use 30 year old newspaper articles to make racist points as you did here[1]. It is not appreciated. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 15:26, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Was only trying to provide less hyperbole from another source. The NYT article is rather incendiary. Point taken, no unkindness was intended. DPG1987 (talk) 16:04, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

That other source didn't support the text you added. The NYT article doesn't appear to be incendiary or have an other than mainstream view on the subject. What are you identifying as hyperbole? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:28, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I don’t want to debate anything. Your point is valid and well cited. This is the beauty of Wikipedia. We all can benefit from our shared knowledge and research abilities. DPG1987 (talk) 16:31, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

We aren't talking about my point we're talking about yours... And yours was neither valid or well cited. We don't let people insert their own opinions into articles. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:38, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well said! Hence why I agree with your rationale to revert the edit and maintain the original citation. No complaints from me. DPG1987 (talk) 16:40, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

You agree that your edit was disruptive and racist? Well thats a first, just don't do it again. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:46, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

RE apparent conflict of interest with the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia edit

Hello, DPG1987. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 15:28, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Is there any particular edit that you find biased or egregiously conflicted? If so I will certainly reconsider or you can edit accordingly. DPG1987 (talk) 16:06, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

So you are acknowledging the existence of the COI? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:29, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

No I was asking I what you saw that lead you to believe there was one. DPG1987 (talk) 16:32, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

You don't find your editing pattern RE Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia to be indicative of a conflict of interest? It doesn't take a genius to see a connection when "DPG" is editing Diplomatic Security Service. Especially when that edit is an OR update of small arms used by them[2]. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:44, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

No I don’t see the conflict. All of my edits are sourced and are factual in nature. Should you see any problematic edits, please feel free to edit them yourself, whether they be of my origination or someone else. The more input these articles have the more accurate and up to date they will be. DPG1987 (talk) 17:24, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Its a conflict of interest regardless of the contents of the edits. All COI edits are problematic. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:26, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I will be sure to disclose any conflicts in any future edits of any pages should they exist. Thank you for your guidance on this topic. DPG1987 (talk) 17:31, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please read the notice... If you have a major COI (as you do) you can't edit the page at all... You can only propose edits on the talk page. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:32, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your guidance on this matter. I will say it is rather disconcerting that you seem to know so much about me and what conflict I may or may not have. Rest assured no further edits will be made. DPG1987 (talk) 17:35, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

What you should find disconcerting is the edit which led to all of this being uncovered. Consider it a very public and easily found skeleton in your closet. Note that your status as a connected contributor has been noted at Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia and Diplomatic Security Service where it will remain in perpetuity. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:42, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your concerns. No further edits or participation will occur. DPG1987 (talk) 17:43, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Question edit

You apparently have a conflict of intetest with the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia...? The link to said declaration was added incorrectly, but just the same, in looking around, I can't seem to find where you declared said conflict. If this can't be confirmed, then the template should probably be removed. - wolf 16:29, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

This was added by a rather aggressive editor who took umbrage with an edit I made on an unrelated page and while I advised them that I would be sure to note any conflict (I am an employee of that agency) specially in the edit summary section of any edits as mentioned in the Wiki COI reporting guidelines, that was not acceptable to them.
I’m not sure that any of edits are conflicted in any way but I cannot claim to not be connected to the subject of the page. As I am a rookie editor, I would defer to more seasoned editors to judge whether or not the declaration is needed or if I simply can note any edits that I make. I thought it odd that I am the only person with a declaration on the talk page but I am not opposed to it if that is the best way to disclose such a COI.
Thank you for your inquiry and any guidance. DPG1987 (talk) 17:23, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure if the declaration is needed either. You could probably remove it, and if for some reason it's re-added, you can inquire about it at either WP:AN or WP:COIN. That said, I would suggest that you not edit that page again, regardless of how minor or benign the change may seem, to avoid any future problems.
That doesn't mean you can't contribute to the article, just post any changes you wish to see made on the talk page. Use this template when doing so and it should get your request attended to in a reasonable amount of time, while also ensuring that you have complied with the guideline. And with it, you don't have to delare your connection to that agency every time you post a request.
You're actually not required to make such information public. All you needed to say was "I have a conflict". Even now, I believe you can request that an admin remove that particular information from public view, in an action known as "RevisionDelete". It was an accidential disclosure by an inexperinced editor... you are entitled to your privacy. You contact an admin from this list to learn more about that.
Hope this is helpful. - wolf 22:23, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for all the guidance. I do appreciate it! DPG1987 (talk) 22:43, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
