License tagging for Image:Hcemblem.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Hcemblem.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 16:08, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Regarding my user warning edit

While I could just respond with a nice {{uw-notcensored3}}, I'm going to take the trouble of typing my message out:

The person in the involved photograph, Richard Nixon, is named "Dick". Additionally, Wikipedia is not censored and in fact has a long-standing pseudo-policy called Wikipedia:Don't be a dick. Finally, your flagrant misuse of user warning templates is itself vandalism as it is forbidden to use them in content disputes and further forbidden to remove postings from the talk pages of others.

Please remove your false warning message from my talk page and cease your removal of content from User talk:A Man In Black. If you will not voluntarily do so, then I will request wider input from WP:AN/I. --tjstrf talk 18:09, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you're saying that was an accidental warning, I'm wondering what exactly you were intending to do. Regardless, thanks for pulling it down voluntarily. --tjstrf talk 18:15, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well for starters, don't try so hard. Seriously. People usually don't vote for overeager candidates, and a couple thousand Main article space edits that aren't just vandalism patrol are practically required. Another thing would be getting to know people and understand the policy pages, so you may wish to start reading pages like Wikipedia:Village pump (policy). The best way to learn about Wikipedia and its policies, though, is to simply edit some articles and learn things as you go. Are there any particular subjects that you are knowledgeable about or interested in? --tjstrf talk 18:39, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I happen to know that both Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto have rather extensive categories of articles, so you should be able to find some work to do there easily enough. Same with everything Nintendo. (I myself do a lot of edits to Bleach (manga) related topics.)
The "+12" and "-827" numbers in your watchlist mean how many characters were added to or removed from the article in the last edit. They're useful because if you get an edit like -5,426, you can be pretty sure it was either vandalism, someone reverting a vandal, or the archival of a long talk page. On a final minor note, could you please make replies on my talkpage by using the section edit button and adding onto the last topic in which you posted, rather than always using the + button to add a new section? I archive my page based on section numbers, so I like to keep 1 section per conversation. --tjstrf talk 19:03, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
For help with basic wiki-markup, see Wikipedia:Cheatsheet, which is where that little "Editing help" link next to show changes in the editing window leads to. For more advanced stuff like template design, you'll have to ask someone else since I don't do template editing too much. (My personal strategy there is to take someone else's template code and copy it. It's worked so far.)
And yes, watchlisting pages for subjects you are interested in is a good idea. --tjstrf talk 19:29, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
And finally, for making friends, I've always found myself becoming friends with the people that I edit the same pages as. If you show Wikipedia:Civility, are willing to negotiate and work towards Wikipedia:Consensus when you get into a dispute, and make intelligent changes, you'll get along with people quite naturally. --tjstrf talk 19:33, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism warnings edit

I'm sorry, but reissuing the same warnings to 70.156.90.217 over 20 minutes was simply idiotic. Did you really expect the vandal to stop once he ignored your "final" warning? Next time, please don't egg vandals on. Send it straight to WP:AIV. --  Netsnipe  ►  18:35, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Duplicate images uploaded edit

Thanks for uploading Image:HighDefdmd logo.gif. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Hdmd logo.gif. The copy called Image:Hdmd logo.gif has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and remember exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 00:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Hcemblem.gif edit

Image:Hcemblem.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fair use disputed for Image:Hcemblem.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Hcemblem.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:47, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BDAlogos.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BDAlogos.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:43, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of BoXer (band) edit

An editor has nominated BoXer (band), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BoXer (band) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 21:05, 1 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted at LSU edit

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian in Louisiana. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Louisiana State University, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

If you live near Baton Rouge and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:10, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:FMD.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:FMD.jpg, which you've sourced to http://web.archive.org/web/20070630172805/http://infweb.webpark.cz/FMD.htm. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:22, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
