Hey. Yes I am aware of this, I am the one who created the category. I was in the middle of moving the categories and had to go out for a bit, so if you check my contributions you will see I was moving them. —Borgardetalk 10:17, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Maniototo Area School‎

As far as I am aware, there is no consensus on whether schools offering secondary education are inherently notable or not. I have reverted your redirect of Maniototo Area School‎. If you do not believe that the school should have an article, I suggest you take it to AfD.-gadfium 08:58, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Secondary schools invariably survive AFD because of their status and that sources are normally available. In this case this is a historic school that merits its own page. I suggest that your time would be better spent on the thousands of elementary school sub-stubs. TerriersFan (talk) 18:27, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Schools

The fact that the guidelines on schools has not succeeded actually changes nothing since the draft had no status. AfDs have been determined for the last 12 months or so by an established practice which is:

  • High/secondary schools are kept since reliable sources are invariably available - if the sources are not in the article then that is grounds for tagging and/or improvement not deletion.
  • Primary/middle schools are generally merged/redirected to the locality (UK/Australia) and district (N.Am). The exception is when they have multiple sources or clear claims of notability (Blue Ribbon US; Grade 1 UK for example). such merging (providing they are merges not just redirects) can simply be boldly done for nn stubs.

please delete and profound thanks

Joint Publications Review Service should be deleted. Sorry I am so poor on this, have no idea what a G7 is. Did not really appreciate Wikipedia until 2005, then had very bad experiences with vandals on the OSINT page. Now I both understand how to offer stuff in discussion first, and how to use stubs to avoid too many links from one page back to the archive for all those who contributed to the one web site devoted to OSINT. Thanks again for pitching in.

I noticed that you are helping the above user, who seems intent on reposting inappropriate material. I've now blocked his username indefinitely (soft block only, can still create new account) since clearly more spam, especially as his user page was yet another recreation of this article. The article space is now unprotected, so it could be recreated, presently copyright tagged though. jimfbleak (talk) 12:20, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
I suppose it was cumulative really, recreations of the company spam in article space, when that failed, posting again on his user page which has the company name (in itself grounds for indefinite username soft block). Its his company, and it's difficult to be objective when there's such an obvious coi. Thanks for your efforts, but you can't win them all. jimfbleak (talk) 14:28, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

This is an interesting case you have brought to my attention. I have spent a good amount of time sifting through these articles that the template presents. I see what you mean. The Ariakon SIM-5 article is written slightly like an advert. After looking solely at this article I was thinking maybe a simple re-write to get rid of the biased language would do the trick. But, I remembered the template that you mentioned, and had a look at some of the other articles. Some are rather badly written. On one, someone who had read the article posted a message on the talkpage, saying that they still did not understand what the article was getting at. Some of the references are a bit dodgy I think, like links to review websites, that are always biased anyway. So I surfed the net, trying to find some more reliable sources of information, but sadly, they don't seem to be as notable as I initially thought, with most hits coming from forums, and shopping websites. Providing the articles with proper references would be thus very difficult, and removing POV would leave some of the articles as tiny stubs I think. POV seems to have resulted from a lack of sufficient information to fill an article with. This really needs a collaborative discussion, but again, this seems to be a remote part of Wikipedia, and the articles haven't been allocated into any Wikiprojects. In light of this, I would suggest merging the whole lot into a main article. This fulfills the purpose of an encyclopedia better. And it's easier access to the required information. One main article, with sections with a paragraph on each should be sufficient. But the references are a problem still. Maybe someone who knows a lot about these type of paintball guns will be able to come up with some reliable sources? Then a merge is my way forward. Lradrama 16:57, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Regarding Ariakon SIM-5

Of course I remember you! Yeah, Twinkle was one of my firsts good experiences with my new Mozilla Firefox.

The article doesn't seem to be blatant advertising, but it really doesn't comply with WP:N standarts, since no assertion of notability (such as independent non-trivial media coverage) has been made. Maybe you should really propose its deletion. It takes five days for the article to be deleted (from the moment you ad the PROD template), so you'll probably have time to see if other people disagree. Keep in mind that even the creator of the article is allowed to remove the PROD template, if he/she feels the article is not a candidate for deletion. A reason for removing the template should be provided, which is often not done, and unfortunately that's allowed. They say if the PROD template is removed, the article should be listed at Articles for Deletion. And don't worry, I'll always find a couple of hours to check things at Wikipedia. school articles

Thank you for the policy update and for adding the blue ribbon information to my article. I understand what you are saying however it does not fully explain why many similar articles about elementary schools (and without "notable" qualities) currently exist. If anything these articles are tagged as "stubs", requesting users to contribute to their expansion. There doesn't appear to be any rationale explaining the existence of such articles in spite of the rules/policy you have expressed. . . therefore, in all fairness, my articles have equal validity as well. please advise--Geezalou (talk) 07:34, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. It makes more sense knowing there is indeed some sort-of review of existing articles occurring. Thanks!--Geezalou (talk) 07:57, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

RE: not more stubs

Na, nothing as selfish as that! I'm working on getting a list of Stewards of the Manor of Northstead up to FL status. According to the criteria you need a minimal amount of redlinks; i've so far written 60 articles. Some are stubs, some are quite large things (for me anyway) such as Charles Jocelyn Hambro. Back again, back again, thank god almighty we're back again! Second year, so i'm doing stuff that actually matters :P. I've been going out of my mind with boredom; I can't handle having nothing to do for hours on end (which raises questions about why I enjoy uni so much :P). How is stuff with you? Politics, actually, I switched! Luckily lots of bits were transferrable (i'd done politics-related optional modules). Amsterdam was excellent, albeit too brief; I see what you mean now about holiday destinations being "too close"; if you're putting the effort into going on holiday then it's nice to go somewhere noticeably different rather than a city which is basically an upmarket "Kings Cross at night", haha. Schools

I think there is scope for some of these schools to be considered "notable". Curl Curl North PS, for example, is a super school larger than many high schools. Bellevue Hill PS is approaching that point also. Both schools have a few notable alumni as well.

I'll encourage people that I know to flesh out the articles so that they're worthy, though. :) Was going to do that much later. Probably best to concentrate on the larger schools as well, right? Thanks for the heads-up.

--Danjel (talk) 09:35, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Not giving it much of a chance, are you? Wouldn't it be better to actually give it a run first?

--Danjel (talk) 09:45, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough. :)

Australia, or at least NSW, doesn't really have an award system like the blue ribbon awards, so that's probably not an adequate measure of notability. Isn't appropriate in any case, because of our centralised approach to public schooling.

The only actual decent criteria I can think of are:

  • the age of the school and heritage status (Bellevue has heritage listed buildings and I'll bet that Annangrove does as well);
  • the notability of former students (all of those schools I put up have notable ex students).

Would you be happy going on that?

I'll rewrite and come back later then. :)

Wait a sec... WP:School didn't achieve consensus? Am I meant to follow a policy that wasn't adopted? Perhaps it will in some other incarnation some day?

--Danjel (talk) 10:09, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I think a lot of what you're talking about seems to apply to private schools more than to public schools (yeah, I know that schools in the UK have that public/private weirdness ;) ). Most public schools in NSW are built either on land endowed in perpetuity on the condition that it be used for public schooling (ie, ex-church land given to the state) or are subject to local/state/federal laws requiring them to remain as schools. In any case, there are some schools where the very fact that they schools are heritage listed is the reason why they're notable. Paddington PS, for example, is one of the oldest standing schools in the country. It's older buildings are heritage listed for this fact.

Otherwise, no problem. Already found a few articles on ex students of Bellevue. I'll stop hassling you and direct further enquiries to the schools project people. :)

Thanks for your help. :)

Regarding AfDs

Well if that's your point, I suggest you also put AfD to Laarni Losala's article which is Hansen Nichols and Van Pojas' contender in the reality talent search. However I still think it's not proper. --Fetch dickson (talk) 00:55, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Bugoy Bogayan

I see you reverted his restoration of the article. I would agree with you that his action is out of process, especially after the AFD discussion. I would suggest trying to discuss the matter with the user first, if possible, it is worth a try. Cirt (talk) 07:20, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Uncat

WP:AWB bots are all capable of tagging with (I think) orphan, uncat, wikify and stub:- SB generally has this option turned on. The problem is generating the list of candiates, Special:lonelypages for example has mostly disambiguation or already tagged orphans. I have done a few tagging runs agianst "Newpages" whic works quite well. Having said that there are a number of people who are expert catters, anbd uncat has usually been kept up with better than the other dated categories. I will look a little more closely when I return home later today or tomorrow. Rich Farmbrough, 12:00 11 September 2008 (GMT).

Eileen Flynn

Hi, I created the Eileen Flynn article. I created it for two reasons - not only was the dismissal controversial in 1982, but the Equality legislation introduced ten years ago leaves a loophole that could lead to further such cases. As the vast majority of Irish schools (approx 90%) are owned by boards of patrons that are churches, it is a distinct possibility. The loophole relates to the ethos of a school. I've added links relating to the appeals she made as well as to Oireachtas (government) debates and to a paper that argues that such discrimination is a real possibility today. Ok, I understand you have redirected the tracks to the album page, but at first you have put the redirection on a few song articles, not on all of them. Some of the songs were covered by notable bands and should be restored. If you did not check the articles, please do so and restore the articles.

Miloš Pavlović 14:11, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Divljan made guest appearances, which does not mean he covered the songs. Johnny Rotten appeared on Megadeth's cover of Anarchy In The UK, which IS a cover version, never minding the vocal appearance. The arrangements and the production of the son may also be different than the original, for example.

The article about the band Eva Braun will be created today.

Alexandra Powers

Hi CultureDrone! I need your help in writing a article about a not very well-known actress nameed Alexandra Powers. What I do know about her is that she was born on 9 September 1967 in New York City and her birth name is Alexandra Kristin Powers. Her first role came in the TV film The Day After. She also had a small role in Mask (with Eric Stoltz, not Jim Carrey) and the TV series L.A. Law and 21 Jump Street. After DPS she starred in The Seventh Coin opposite Peter O'Toole and had small roles in The Player and Rising Sun. In 1994 she played Tonya Harding in the TV movie Tonya & Nancy: The Inside Story. Other roles have been in Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing, the Walter Matthau / Jack Lemmon comedy Out to Sea, and the tv movie Storm. But since 2001, she has devoted her life to Scientology. Utsusemi entry

I was quite a bit frustrated to search for my Utsusemi entry and not find it. It seems you took it out, on account of being a summary of events more than a characterization. I do not agree with your conclusion, for two reasons. One, in general, it tends to be extremely difficult to describe a character without a direct reference to narrative events. And two, in the particular case of the Tale of Genji, there are no detailed summaries for the chapters, so discussing one character and assuming readers know the events that character is featured in, is simply unfeasible. I would like to hear your suggestions, before restoring that entry, since I wouldn’t want to start a battle of wills here, to see which of us gives up first on erasing or restoring an entry. So, please let me know what you think that entry is still lacking (I was planning on returning to it once I finished the entire Genji characters list anyway). Thank you.
