Thanks for the traditional Wikipedian welcome Rod! As I say, I've been on the site before but this is my first time editing. My immediate goal is to get Broad Street, Bristol up to stub-class (and hopefully start class). Hope to see you around on some of the other talk pages. Barnstar edit

Wow ! My first barnstar, and not for working on any sort of notable article. Many thanks :-) CultureDrone (talk) 20:10, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

This comment predates the user talk box, for the benifit of those who don't want to go to CultureDrone's talkpage, the Barnstar was for a copy edit of the disambiguation page at Barbara Blackburn NullofWest (talk) 09:37, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of NullofWest/Thingsyoumayconfusemewith edit

A tag has been placed on NullofWest/Thingsyoumayconfusemewith requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. TallNapoleon (talk) 08:19, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

It looks like you meant to put this in your userspace instead of the mainspace. TallNapoleon (talk) 08:26, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have responded at TallNapoleon's talk page, asking him to Userfy obvious cases of this in future (and tagging where still appropriate) - I would ask anyone else do the same. NullofWest (talk) 09:37, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Help Request: Semi-Protect request for Willam Penn? edit

{{helpme}} I think a semi-protection request may need to be made on William Penn as the vandalism has finally exceeded the reverting, however I'm unsure if a report is needed, and if so how to file one. For the benifit of those looking, a link to the history. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=William_Penn&action=history NullofWest (talk) 21:06, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, NullofWest. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, I've now protected the page for a few days. You should be able to edit, but unregistered and new users won't be able to. In the future, you can make these requests at WP:RFPP for faster attention. Thanks! Let us know if you have any more questions. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:10, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

William Penn Protection edit

Since I saw the "no talkback" part of your header, I thought I'd reply here and copy this response to my talkpage. Thankyou for protecting the page.

I think I probably asked the wrong question with my {{helpme}} template, it was supposed to be in two parts: does this need reporting to WP:RFPP? If so how do I do that?

I appreciate your busy, so I'll just ask if what I posted was okay to go on the WP:RFPP noticeboard.

NullofWest (talk) 22:29, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yay! Someone does read my talk header! :-)
Yes, that probably could have been posted there; most requests for protection are due to high levels of vandalism from multiple sources. As for how to post, there are instructions on that page. All reports are in this type of format:
===={{la|Article title}}====
'''Semi/Full/Move protection'''. Reason for request. ~~~~
If you're not entirely sure, you are welcome to ask me or another admin on their talk page, or go ahead and submit a report. If we don't think protection is needed, we'll explain why at RFPP. Hope this helped, sorry I didn't fully answer earlier. Happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:16, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Television programme version of {{Hightraffic}}? edit

{{helpme}} How do I mark an article appearing in a notable program as potential high traffic?

Background to question: I've just been watching yesterday's episode of [[The Restaurant (UK TV Series) The Restaurant]] and noticed they featured a shot of the hatnote on the Mexican Cuisine page (along with one of our cleanup templates) - I thought it was likely to increase traffic from users who recognised Wikipedia, so thought it might be a good idea to put a High Traffic template on the article talkpage, however upon looking closer this is only for websites. Further reflection means I don't think it's likely to need one - as there isn't really enough to identify the article and only people familiar with our cleanup tags would recoginise it as wikipedia, but ask so I'll know for next time (eg if it appears in Cornation Street or on the BBC 10 o'clock news) NullofWest Fill the Void 21:36, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Meeting this weekend in Bristol edit

Hi this is Steve Virgin from the Board of Wikimedia UK

I am a fellow Bristolian

We have a Wikimedia Conference in town this weekend

We were getting some of the Bristol Project Wikipedians together at the Watershed on Saturday night for a Wiki Meet at around 6.30pm.

This is a good opportunity to meet people from the national Chapter, other Chapters from around the world and from the Wikimedia Foundation. There is a bar tab to help proceedings and we would be very keen to see you there.

RSVP - let me know if you are able to come and feel free to invite any other local Wikipedians in Bristol

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
