All good things...

...come to an end, I guess. Shame we were simply awful, missed a penalty (again) and were never in the game. Going to sink fast playing like that. We've knocked Coventry out of two cups so losing to them in a stadium that isn't even theirs is a bitter pill. Chance for your lot to catch up. Roll on Saturday! Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:01, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

If you win your game in hand we could all be on the same points at the top. Rotherham will be hard work, they'll fancy beating us now, I expect. Peterborough will be even tougher – if we play like we did tonight, the Posh will have a field day. I was amazed they didn't beat Sheffield Utd, but glad because we're still top! For now... Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:14, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
That's the gap I keep looking at, the gap to 7th. Realistically, we're not going to keep up with you and Posh, so the play-offs are the target. Lump your money on Wolves/Posh for automatic promotion! Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:22, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Hope you're right! Might hold you to it! ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:47, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, that was a shocking decision. Another inexperienced Russian teen in F1, oh great. I really don't know where F1 is going at the moment. Bring back Giovanni Lavaggi, all is forgiven. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:07, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Exactly. When we had pay drivers in the past, they tended to be largely confined to back of the grid teams, Minardi, Pacific, Simtek, that lot. They made up the numbers. Now they're showing up in fairly decent midfield teams as well, and practically half the grid next year will have paid millions to be there. Not only does it devalue F1 as the supposed "pinnacle" of motor sport, but it will discourage really talented guys from continuing in the sport. If, as you suggest, da Costa, Magnussen et al don't appear on the grid next year or even in GP2, where's the incentive for them to carry on? Kvyat might be moderately talented, but promoting him to F1 at this stage in his career makes a mockery of the F1 "pyramid". Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:37, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Agreed on all points. We really ought to be running F1, you and me. Of those three paydrivers you mentioned, somehow they were less bothersome than the current crop. Diniz turned out to be no worse than a few of the drivers who were there on merit, Rosset had been handy in lower formulae, and Lavaggi was at least good fun! Entertainment value, which is something these corporate kid-clones won't bring, unless they're prone to some Pérez-style argy-bargy. Totally agreed about Sean Edwards, what a sickening bit of news that was. If that Danish fellow or Ammermüller wins the title, what value does it have? None. Just give it to Edwards and have a weekend of commemorating his skill and achievements. Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:08, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

I used to do the same in Cornwall! I was always looking for a likely site for a Cornish Grand Prix! Those laps of the Nordschleife illustrate very well the standard that Edwards had reached. His racecraft was exceptional, never missed an opportunity to pass. He would have been a Le Mans regular, if not a multiple winner over the next ten or twenty years. Very cruel. I only found out after he died that he'd played his dad in "Rush". I haven't got round to seeing it yet, and now it'll be rather poignant, to say the least. Yes, racing has always had a nasty habit of throwing up coincidences like that... Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:06, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

I remember watching the Birmingham SuperPrix live, that was a good fun race in those days. Shame it didn't carry on. My money's on the London event not happening. London is such a hard place in which to make these things work. Good call with the DVDs – I waited for "Senna" to appear on DVD, not least because I was concerned I'd end up crying in public, haha... I'm not sure "Rush" will surpass the Senna film, just a hunch. Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:05, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Drayson can certainly open doors, and it would be great to see! I had to look up Turbo, showing my old fart credentials! The TT DVD is on my list, as is the Rush one when it comes out. But will it surpass Le Mans?! Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:55, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
That is a very good rating for Rush, can't deny that. Bit low for Le Mans though! Class film. The TT film is one I meant to see at the cinema and it didn't happen. Can't argue with a 100% rating, that is phenomenal. Call me a cynic, but I suspect Turbo won't get 100% ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:56, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
I heard Mark Kermode say today that Turbo was rubbish, and he's never *cough* wrong! He doesn't like F1 but he loved Senna and liked Rush as well. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:24, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
Yep, I think you're right. Not 'night out' stuff, but good material for a lazy afternoon DVD :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:59, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
Good point, might not be worth DVD money! Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:26, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

cycling update

Hi, i see that you removed some parts of the edit that i've made. The part that i'm citing is this: Only UCI Races are considered. This results are updated as of October 28, 2013.. I don't know why there is a necessity to remove it as it is very useful to the reader. For example if a guy reads wikipedia, in some cases without great pretensions, he doesn't undertake to read the infobox to know if the page is updated or not but prefers, and includes a wide majority, to find it in the main page. I'm not argumentative and it is not in my nature but in this case I cannot understand the reasons for the deleting. I hope that you will be able to disentangle my idea. Best wishes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.116.114.100 (talk) 14:44, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

TT

Well! I had no idea. That's what I get for not buying a TV guide. I won't get a chance to watch it either. Still on course for the DVD then! Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:01, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

I got my mum on the case – her recorder actually works! I'll still buy the DVD if I enjoy it though. Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:36, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

Oklahoma NFL Draft tables

I see you've done some work on Oklahoma football season articles. There's currently a discussion on talk:2006 Oklahoma Sooners football team about whether the NFL draft following the season should be displayed in a table or a block of text. We need some people to put in their opinions. Kobra98 (talk) 23:36, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Re: Damn...

Yes, sad to see that news. He would have been successful in whichever category he chose, I think. But better to retire healthy than risk paralysis or worse, that would be awful. Big accidents are never far away in racing. It must have been a tough pill to swallow. Yeah, still top with you lot 2nd! Amazing really. Us beating Peterborough really warmed things up, I think. I still think you'll win it, but 2nd is there for the taking. Coventry on very good form, I notice. Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:17, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

He was definitely lucky to survive, and he must realise that he wouldn't survive another similar accident. He'd be a great pundit, he's erudite and articulate. He'd go down well as a "color commentator" over there. I can see us easily losing to Preston – they'll be up for it and we've lost two, maybe three of our top players, basically the spine of our team. Romain Vincelot got himself booked in the FA Cup match simply so he'd be suspended for the pointless JPT game, but the FA banned him for the Preston match as well for trying to game the system...[1] might be costly! Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:21, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
Exactly. And yes, we weren't very good today and we struggled. Big crowd for us too, I bet most of them won't come back next week. We were hoping your lot might slip up at Notts Co... no such luck. Enjoy your moment at the top, may it be brief! Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:07, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
We've got a tricky trip to Swindon next, before we meet Bristol City and Sheffield United. Frankly anything could happen between three wins and three defeats. Looking forward to Wolves playing Peterboro. Got to say we'd rather you won that to keep Peterboro behind us! Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:39, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
Certainly all of them are capable of beating us at the moment, but I'm amazed how far down Bristol City and Sheff Utd are. Their fans must be a touch disillusioned. That is a tough few games for Peterborough, I'd love to see them drop a few points there. If Wolves and Orient can pull out a bigger gap I'd be happier! Your lot might relax a bit more and be more dominant with a decent gap over everybody else. Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:59, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
Ah, it didn't take long for the bookies to fall out of love with Orient! Thought that might happen. 1/8 for Wolves to go up?! Sounds like a done deal! To be fair, I can't see how you won't go up. Not sure about Brentford going straight up, they've been too inconsistent so far. Not ruling Coventry out yet, but I'm sticking with Wolves and Peteborough to go up, with Orient, Preston, Coventry and Brentford for the playoffs. Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:07, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Swindon

Yeah, what a disgrace. Couldn't believe it when I heard and I still can't believe it even now I've seen it. Stewards were way too slow. I'm glad Jones didn't punch the lad because technically a player can be sent off for assaulting a fan on the pitch. And he was only 16! He ought to be banned for life. Swindon fans and players have condemned it, which is something, but I imagine they'll be fined for it. At least all the results went our way! Hope you enjoyed your stay at the top – I reckon you'll get another chance soon ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:25, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Actually he was 26, my mistake. Old enough to know better! He's been arrested anyway. Our keeper has a bruise or two, and the manager has had kittens over it! Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:54, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Exactly, these things shouldn't be underestimated. I'm proud to say that Jones didn't drop to the ground and writhe around on the floor like he'd been shot, like Dida did. I think Dida got a short ban for that. Kirkland really got a bit of a smack there, which can be quite serious if you're not expecting it. Terrible. Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:55, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I think only Rivaldo [2] was worse... Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:37, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Funny how these things stick in your mind! I love the World Cup :o) Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:56, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Don't get too comfortable! We might not have finished with top spot yet... damn own goal! But you're right, it's the gap behind us that's important. If we can both see off the others, then we'll argue about top spot at the end ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:54, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Peterborough are having a nightmare, they've lost five league games in a row! Long may it continue, frankly. I'm happy for your run to carry on until you meet us! Preston looking like the danger side at the moment. We've got Sheffield United up next, big game. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:58, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, you did predict that, and I think I was wrong about that. I thought Posh would be a bit tougher than they are. Long way to go though! Yes, you do have a difficult few games ahead, but if you get through those, you take a big step towards promotion. I wouldn't mind terribly if we got bumped out of the cup, I don't think we have the squad to cope with all the games. Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:41, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
If there's a barnstar for terrible jokes, you've just earned it! Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:51, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

Yo-yo

We should be getting used to this! I didn't expect you to lose today, but we should have won. We had more than enough chances. Preston, Brentford and Posh have caught us both up a little bit. We might be top but I'm a bit concerned, especially as talisman player Kevin Lisbie appeared in a leg brace :( Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:06, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Sheffield United's goal was against the run of play too, and we were a bit fortunate to get one back. Sounds like both Wolves and Orient missed a hatful of chances. Exactly, everyone loses from time to time, but it's about how you respond to defeat. Peterborough showed how not to do it by losing five in a row, ironically choosing today to put a stop to it. A good time to have a weekend off – I wish we did but we have Walsall in the cup. I'd rather get knocked out and win the next league game... Bradford away, another tough one. Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:23, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
That is surprising. Damn stats! We haven't beaten Sheffield United at home since 1983, apparently. I should've known it wasn't going to happen today! MK Dons ("Franchise Athletic") are completely schizophrenic, you just never know what they're going to do. Posh, Brentford and Preston all have very winnable games coming up. Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:42, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
It'll definitely tighten up again :/ And that list makes fairly depressing reading! If we can't beat Sheff Utd this season when they're rubbish, when can we beat them??! Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:16, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Long way to go! But no relegation dogfight this year, that's something to celebrate! :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:52, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Exactly. Fans can only take so much! Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:44, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Six-pointer

What a big game. As far as I know, you chaps have sold out, which is fantastic. Who would think that a third tier match could attract so many people? I'm not sure what kind of side we are putting out, but no excuses! May the best team win. And yes, should we draw today, we could find ourselves 2nd and 3rd! Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:21, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

I think we could use Griffiths if you don't want to use him! Haha... Our side looks "ok". Jake Larkins is a very inexperienced keeper (only wrote his article a couple of days ago!) and there's no Mooney or Batman but it's a solid team, if unspectacular. I think we'd both like to be there but I'm nearly as far away from Molineux as you are! Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:31, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
Today might be Cassidy's day! Our strikers are not in great form. Lisbie hasn't scored in quite a while, and Simpson's never scored for us. We have Johnny Gorman on the bench – maybe a fairy tale in prospect?! I don't get to see Orient very often either, mostly due to work. I saw them win at Brentford a while back, but that's it. I did see Truro City win 5–0 yesterday though! And that is a lot closer than I expected. Really makes you realise how far away Cornwall is from everything! Five minutes to go, sweaty palms! Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:55, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
So Brentford do go top! The general consensus seems to be that Orient were pretty fortunate to still be in the game at half time but that we dug in very well as usual. I think we're very happy indeed with the point. Our tweeters all seemed to be wondering why Wolves aren't top by a mile – easily the best team we've played this season. Honours even then, now we have to get after Brentford! Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:00, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes, we were definitely a bit fortunate, but Wolves seemed to have a lot of shots off-target. If Larkins had been tested more often, you might have seen a different scoreline. Orient fans seem to be badgering Barry Hearn for more players in January as there's no way we can continue to cope with the scratch squad we currently have. Both clubs have had a poor December, I think, while Brentford have done well. We need to fix that in January. Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:19, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
Baffling indeed. I thought their managerial change would damage them, but they've actually won 11 out of their last 12 in the league, with the only points dropped being that game you mentioned against Wolves. That's an amazing run, and all I can say is that it probably won't last! All the clubs that have had good runs have come unstuck in the end, so Brentford shouldn't be any different. And they're only one point ahead of us. Some legendary Orient Optimism for you there! Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:54, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
I wouldn't bet against that! I just hope we're still at least second ;) Bretonbanquet (talk) 01:50, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Always tomorrow

That's true, Wolves haven't been firing on all cylinders lately. Any plans for the January window? We've signed two already, we're not far off asking the tea lady to put her boots on. Glad it's the cup tomorrow. Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:33, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

I guess that's the downside of being a big club in a lower division, you always get selected for the Friday night TV graveyard shift, which may not always suit your team. Another downside of being in League One is that other clubs keep nicking your players! Griffiths is clearly a decent player and if there's even a sniff from someone near the top of the Championship, he'll be wavering. Also, if (God forbid), you don't get promoted, half your team will be looking elsewhere. Looks like you've got a few fingers in a few good pies though, if you can sign those guys, you'll be that bit stronger. We've signed a couple of inexperienced chaps on loan in Jamie Ness and the imaginatively named Shaquile Coulthirst, and they may well feature today. I don't think too many Orient fans are concerned about the cup right now, but a win would of course be nice! Bretonbanquet (talk) 12:24, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Well that was a bit of a disaster. Our worst defeat since we lost 5–0 to Everton in the League Cup in August 2012. Only 14 senior players available today, and two of those we signed yesterday. To make it worse, Kieffer Moore scored for Yeovil after I'd personally cheered him on and shook his hand when he played for Truro. Somehow I knew he would score today. Traitor! Ah well, back to the league... Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:00, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
I sincerely hope so!! Bretonbanquet (talk) 01:47, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
I might be inviting disaster here but I can't see you losing by four goals any time soon. We wouldn't have either but for a major lack of players which will hopefully be sorted before too long. My money's still on you to go up. Not sure about us though! Bretonbanquet (talk) 13:52, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
