I dont know how i get into messes but when I added the part about Jessica beating her for Dukes of Hazzard,other fans kept reverting my edits and questioning me on my talk page.

English singers

I notice that you moved Pete Atkin from Category:English singers to the larger Category:British singers. I could understand a change in the opposite direction (a sharpening of the category) but I cannot see how a singer born in England, who performs and records in England, singing songs in English in a genre called "English chansons" is more British than English. English usage

Some might call you a pedant. I, for one, applaud you for trying to keep Wiki English readable. I am reminded of a sign that was posted in our office kitchenette, "HELP KEEP ARE KITCHEN CLEAN." When I pointed that out to someone, he said I was being "picky". He would have called me a "pedant" if he knew the word. When I pasted a cutout of the word "OUR" over the "ARE", that took care of it; the sign was totally gone the next day, never to be seen again. It made my parents (retired teachers) cringe, or maybe shriek a little, when I told them that story. As satirist and math professor Tom Lehrer said when he did a simple calculation in the "New Math" and came up with the wrong answer, "Well, the idea is the important thing!" The Countess?

(mwah-ha-ha!) I see you're doing a lot of stub-counting and -sorting of US-bios lately -- for which, good on you. Are you doing this entirely by hand, or via some sort of automation? I'm going by double-stubbing for my numbers (as you may have noticed), which unfortunately is highly limited by the fact that over half the category is only single-stubbed. :/ (Over 1800 articles.) It's possible some of them have permanent categories which may help too, if I can correlate that information (which is a little trickier). At any rate, if there's some way we can co-ordinate our efforts on this, I'm game to try.

I'm somewhat relieved to see that I really had proposed US-skatingbio-; thought for a moment I was losing it even more than usual! Alai 16:23, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Manual counting - I just finished the category last night. I had spot-checked a few common names before, and during the actual count, chose about ten-twelve categories that seemed to have a lot of stubs. Of them, the only ones that came close to reaching something near threshold were figure skaters and architects (which I listed), photographers, and tennis players. (I still need to go through the parent categories for the last two.) There are probably more ways to sort that I didn't note. Crystallina 21:20, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

I'd noticed that the "tennisbios" were creeping up, too. I have a list, which if it'd be of any interest I could readily upload, of double-stubbings in oversized categories that are close to the threshold. (This gets very long depending on how far one is prepared to consider "close", naturally enough.) Or if you find such articles, and double-stub them, that'll be useful in helping these get picked up as splittable in a count from a future db dump. Alai 23:26, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

baseball-pitcher-stub

Hello. I noticed the stub sorting you did in regards to pitchers. Excellent idea as the baseball-bio category is vary large. I put a suggestion in at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Proposals#.7B.7Bbaseball-pitcher-stub.7D.7D to create one for catchers as well. beatles-song-stub

I recently went through the list of songs listed as Beatles song stubs (Category: Beatles song stubs) and removed those that weren't Beatles songs, but actually songs released by members of The Beatles as solo artists. You subsequently reverted many of my changes with your "Stub-sorting. You can help!" comment. I'm assuming that this was done in good faith and that you didn't mean to revert my edits, so I'm just going to make you aware of songs that are not Beatles songs and should not be listed using {{beatles-song-stub}}:

• Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) (John Lennon)
• Cold Turkey (John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band)
• Happy Xmas (War Is Over) (John Lennon and Yoko Ono)

Yes, I realize that those songs are not Beatles songs, but the category text reads:

"This category is for stub articles relating to songs by The Beatles and any of the four members individually. You can help Wikipedia by expanding them." (Emphasis added by me.)

Hmm... well, this is an interesting predicament. When I originally made those changes (on March 21), the text read, "This category is for stub articles relating to specific The Beatles songs. I think we as a Beatles WikiProject agreed upon stubbing solo songs with that template too (after a lot of Gordon's changes were made, c'est la vie, and it's no big deal!). I think it would make sense, and furthermore it is apparently not desired on a wider scale to create many more new stub templates. I'm about to look through what was said and make some changes to the template to clarify this issue if need be and in the meantime I've asked Gordon to hold fire :) --kingboyk 21:47, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Musicians and the ongoing categorization effort

Hi, I notice you were responsible for creating Category:Canadian singers by style and populating it. You may be interested to know that a major categorization effort for all musicians is currently underway at Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Categorization. (Actually, it's been a bit quiet so far. Spreading the word, I guess.) Your category fit perfectly into the category structure, which saved quite a bit of time just now.

Ambient Techno

hello, I edited Ambient Techno (that is already included in Ambient music) with the purpose to split the main Ambient music article in many parts, becouse it's too large, and also becouse the Ambient techno and ambient house scenes (not mentioning other ambient derived styles) are different genres from the Ambient by Brian Eno, Jon Hassell, Harold Budd, Robert Fripp, David Sylvian, Russell Mills and so on, not mentioning ambient-new age tracks by Private Music and ECM labels. Speedy deletion and Proposed deletion

Hi there! Thanks for your contributions to AfD. I wondered if you were aware of two other methods of deletion, Speedy and Proposed.

• Speedy deletion is for articles that are obvious nonsense or non-notable, see WP:SD for guidelines and instructions.
• Proposed deletion is for articles that do not meet speedy criteria, but are obvious deletes and non-controversial. It allows you to post a notice on the article page, and it automatically gets deleted after a few days. See WP:PROD for more info.

I only mention this because some of your AfD entries could easily qualify for either of those methods, and thus, not expend time of other editors to research and discuss. For example, Blokkispace and Barmixtalk.

A question about whistle register and sourcing

Would a short (a few seconds) audio clip of a singer accessing whistle register as defined in the article be verifiable enough? If not, I'll keep digging for sources. Crystallina 14:22, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Is the clip you? A homemade clip would be acceptable. you would have to be willing to allow other editors to verify it though, and your clip may be subjected to harsh editing by others depending on its quality. If it is homemade do take a good look at the licenses you choose. I'd go for the creative common's license as I believe it gives you more author rights. You may wish to look it up. But yes homemade is fine. If commercial, you will have to find an authoritive source saying that portion is whistle first. I would accept the classic Carey, or Riperton portions of song's in which everyone knows they hit whistle though. Well, considering I have no Wikipedia article, it wouldn't be about me. I was just wondering if clips would be acceptable sources for the contested singer articles. Sarah Brightman

This article uses original research in the reference to Brightman hitting a note with a link to youtube. Does Brightman have to hit an E6 by role? If the role calls for the note, please find the sheet music, and verify the text by sourcing the ref with the page with the note showing her hitting it. To be fair, I didn't add that section; I just corrected some incorrect information.

But anyway, the role was written for her, she was the original performer, and it specifically calls for an E6. (I think this is actually specified in audition information for Phantom, but I'd have to find old issues of Backstage magazine to make sure.) I do have a copy of the official Phantom of the Opera songbook with sheet music, and that note is specified. The book wouldn't have pictures of her singing the note since that song is always pre-recorded and not sung live, but it does have pictures of her in the original production. Thanks for your note about Bascon. I suppose I could draw a parallel with the Baker Street Irregulars or the Jane Austen Society as groups of amateur enthusiasts (rather than academics or professional critics) interested in a particular literary genre and to say that they are all notable because they provide both an audience and a better understanding of their particular genre. American Idol

I think that American Idol and the other Versions of it surely AREN'T a major music competition!!! In a major music competition contest EXPERIENCED singers and not people who are NOTHING who are nothing without this competition. Category:Living people

Make sure you add the Category:Living people to articles you categorize if people are still alive so they will be picked up by the Biography project. Lincher 01:45, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

It is better to add this than to have libelious attacks on that persons page and not being seen by anyone. I tell you that a bot picks up all the biography of living persons so I order to prevent personal attacks or to counter vandalism, such a tag should be applied. Also, since adding to the wikiproject is done manually expect for the biographies of living persons, it is preferable that they are caught sooner than later by the bot and added to the project.
