Hello, bonjour, salut, privyet, konichiwa, shalom, hola, salve, sala'am, bonjourno, and hi! I'm Sputnik. I noticed that you were new and/or have yet to receive any messages so I just thought I'd pop in to say "hello". We're glad to have you in our community! I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it's so big but we won't bite so Be Bold and get what you know down in microchips! If you do make a mistake, that's fine, we'll assume good faith and just correct you: it'll take a few seconds maximum! I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful. If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you. Here are a few links to get you started:

No worries! The calibre/caliber thing can get confusing at times, and the way I figure it, there's quite enough firearm topics on WP written by Americans, so the Commonwealth deserves more use than it's currently getting. ;-)

As for the sniper rifle thing... there's the potential for an excellent article there, if he'd only listen to what we're all saying. It's a shame to have to go to arbitration, but as you say, it's only going to end up being an even bigger waste of everyone's time and effort otherwise... and you don't need to thank me for the Barnstar Award- you've earned it!--Commander Zulu 13:56, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

HI, I just wanted to thank u/congratulate on your short addition to the fox hunting page. i tried to do a similar addition - but it was removed in half an hour. So nice wording i guess!! Just to let you know, when you ask for a second peer review, it's perfectly fine to simply put the request directly under your original one; anyone dropping by will see it there. Meh, I'm going to be off to Wikimania tomorrow, so I won't have much time to help with this; but I'll see what I can do about the footnotes, at least, today. It might be worthwhile asking around for a few people to copyedit the article; it's often easier than trying to figure out the problems that people are seeing in one's own writing. Collaboration?

Seeing as you know your stuff, perhaps in the future you'd like to cooperate on individual pages for the Lee-Enfield and Webley Variants. I own a hefty amount of literature on both weapons as well as access to the former QAD(O)Pattern Room which is now located in Leeds, plus I strongly believe that there's sufficient interest in such materiel. Absolutely! I'm a published writer on Historic firearms in Australia, and of course have my own library (well, selection ;) of reference material. Webley Revolver

In general, I feel that articles on Wiipedia need to cite their sources exhaustively. When I looked over this article for A-class review, I felt that it didn't cite well enough to be in the 2nd-best tier of articles. I might be wrong - other editors may not feel the same way, and if you renominate the article, different reviewers may disagree with my original assessment and pass the article. On the second count, organization, my initial reaction to the overall setup of the artice was negative. I feel that the best articles on Wikipedia should also be the easiest to navigate. Again, I didn't feel that this article was organized in a way that compared favorably to other top-drawer articles. As with the citations, other editors may disagree. There is no limit on good faith renominations; if you feel that this article cannot be imporoved in either area that I mentioned in my objection, nominate it again, with a comment in the nomination box that explains why you are renominating without changes (or with minimal changes).

And don't take criticism so personally - it's not a personal attack. When I review an article, I don't look at the history page to see who has edited it - it really isn't important. My criticisms are of the article as a whole, not of your contributions, or of you personally.

This is an extremely well-known propaganda photo published by the Soviet Government in 1943. My understanding is that it's in the public domain as a result.

On a different note, this bot of yours causes more problems than it solves, you know. It's systematically tagged almost every WWII era Soviet photo for deletion, which is going to cripple the Soviet Military History aspect of Wikipedia. 1943 is in a grey area: some WWII photos from then are public domain, while others aren't. For more details, see Template:PD-USSR, Template talk:PD-USSR, and Commons:Template talk:PD-Soviet.

As for the re-tagging, this is because {{PD-USSR}} turns out to be based on a misunderstanding of law. The cutoff date for public domain is either 1942 (for works by WWII vets), or 1946 (for all other works). Cartridge designations

Hello, you may remember me from such talk pages as Sniper rifle, and 7.92mm Mauser. How are we writing cartridge names these days? For example, is it 5.56 x 45 mm or have we moved on to 5.56x45mm? I was just about to go through an article, but I cannot remember which to use, nor can I find the discussion about it on the MilHist pages because, well, I'm stupid. British patent question

Someone recently started up an article on the Anson & Deeley boxlock action, and I've been trying to track down the original British patent from 1875, but with no luck so far. I know you write a lot on British arms, so would you know of any resources that might let me track that down British patents? And do you know the copyright status of British patents? I like to grab drawings from US patents when applicable because they are non-copyrightable and cover things that it might be hard to obtain free use photos of (see for example the Dardick tround article). I assume even if copyrighted in general, a 130 year old patent is probably fair game anyway... scot 13:39, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

7.62mm NATO

I moved the article because it didn't say 7.62x51, also, it didn't have an "x" in it, it had the superscript "x" instead. I wasn't aware of a concensus and, it seems, there ISN'T a concensus as it's written differently everywhere. View the 5.56 and 5.45 or the 6.8 SPC or the 7.92x33 articles. Howdy! I think you typoed the rename of 7.65x53mm Belgian Mauser. It's 7.65x 53mm Belgian Mauser. I tried to move it over there myself this morning, but with all the redirects and everything, even moving the 7.65x53mm Belgian Mauser out of the way, I can't move the content page to the proper name. Enfield revolver

I saw your comment about complaints that this article might be too short for FAC. I don't think it is, the main reason for the first oppose was 1a, and as for the second reviewer, most of the FAC people tend to ignore Kaypoh and disregard his opinions, so I don't think there is a clear consensus that the article is too short, eg see Wikipedia talk:Featured article statistics. That's just a comment in case you hadn't renominated thinking that it is intrinsically too short to be acceptable. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 01:45, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate the feedback, but I haven't re-nominated the article because I don't like being criticised by people who don't know anything about the subject matter and make vague objections without having the decency to provide constructive help on how to fix it. That and there really isn't anything else to say about the revolver- there is exactly one reference book on the gun, a mention in a WWII small arms manual, and one or two articles in magazines/e-zines.
