Hi there. I tagged an image you uploaded for speedy deletion. While you indicate that its copyright status puts it in the public domain because it is a work of the US government, I contest that. Yes, the image is found in an NIH newsletter, but the source page you gave for the image indicates that it was provided to the NIH courtesy of the architects. Esrever (klaT) 18:25, 28 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

"Courtesy of the architects" refers to the license given by the architects to NIH to reuse the image. Once the image was incorporated into the NIH newsletter it became part of the newsletter, which is a work of a US agency (NIH). This entire work is in the public domain. In copyright law works can be governed by different licenses. The image at hand is governed both by whatever license the architects distribute it under, and by the license of works that contain it, such as the NIH newsletter. Hence the work is (also) in the public domain.
Hi Cimp3. The attribution to Raphael Viñoly Architects is specifically there to credit the copyright holder. As stated by the NIH images on the www.nih.gov and http://health.nih.gov/ have been licensed from a third party and are restricted in their use. Sorry, but unlike much of the text at NIH, the photo is not in the public domain. Therefore, I've deleted the image. CactusWriter (talk) 19:08, 28 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. I hadn't seen the FAQ section, so I assumed regular copyright law applies. Thanks

Hi, Cimp3. I have also tagged this image for speedy deletion because its licensing is incompatible with Wikipedia. The CC BY-NC-SA license at http://www.flickr.com/photos/lizzylizinator/4551204423/in/photostream is for non-commercial use only. Wikipedia's CC-BY-SA license requires permission for commercial use. The chart at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright can helpful in checking for compatibility. Cheers. CactusWriter (talk) 16:15, 29 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, this is something I would normally notice. Maybe the user changed the license after I posted the pic on Wikipedia. Anyway, thanks for pointing that out, I'll try to come up with another one. Best. Cimp3 (talk) 20:15, 29 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:HorseBus.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:HorseBus.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 13 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:David l cohen.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:David l cohen.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. —innotata 18:14, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
