(Hope that works?)

Thanks, assuming it did.

I'm not very familiar with how the wikipedia user talk pages, etc work (I spend a lot of time reading articles, but I've only recently made an account and begun editing pages).

There's a certain page, the page on Marc Lepine, with a situation that I think warrants attention, although I'm not sure how to alert someone or who should be alerted. The page has a history of systematic vandalism by multiple IPs (one belonging to the Huges Network System or somesuch shows up a lot) and by a specific user (who has vandalism warnings already in his talk). A look at the history of the page shows that it has been vandalised in the same way many times.

Anyway, it just annoys me to see blatant hate/misinformation being added to a wikipedia page, but I don't know what to do about it besides revert the changes. What is the process for having a page semi-protected & for having a user blocked from editing?

Thanks for your help

Help edit

Hey, you may want to read Wikipedia:Vandalism for ways of dealing with vandalism. If it gets so bad that a Administrator needs to step in you can go to Wikipedia:Requests_for_administrator_attention. --Simonkoldyk 03:53, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also I've removed the helpme request if you still have more questions feel free to contact me on my talk page or put back the helpme template and someone will be along shortly. --Simonkoldyk 03:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Some things to do: If a specific IP or username is repeatedly vandalizing, revert their changes and add progressively more severe warnings to their talk page. See WP:VANDAL. If they persist in vandalizing past a "test 4" warning (the fourth warning, which says "this is your last warning") you can report them to administrators intervention against vandalism and they will be blocked. To get a page protected you can visit requests for page protection and state your reasoning, however, generally speaking there needs to be an ongoing and frequent reason for this. Another option is to keep the page on your watchlist (most editors have several) and check it regularly, reverting it for vandalism. If you notice a weird pattern of abuse, not attributable to one account or IP, you could report it to aministrator's noticeboard/incidents for more attention and advice. I hope that helps. please feel free ask any more questions you might have on my talk page and I will answer them to the best of my abilities or direct you to someone who can do better. I will also take a closer look at the page itself to see what the situation is. Cheers. Dina 03:56, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay, well it looks like probably the same person, operating from different IP's, is deliberately vandalizing this article with, let's call it, an "anti-feminist" bent. Somebody has a little issue, apparently. It's tough -- one of the IP's appears to be an "open" IP, used by several people, some making totally legit edits, one this individual. The other I looked at may be as well. Frustrating as this is, it seems on a quick look that most of this vandalism has happened in the past couple of days. I'll keep an eye on it, you do too, and if it gets out of hand one of us can report it. Pages are not usually protected because of the actions of one person. And vandals get bored pretty quick. Cheers (off to bed, so no more from me!) Dina 04:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the help and advice. Hopefully it gets resolved, then. ChaoticGhost 04:09, 30 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

To the Marc Lepine vandal:

Thanks for all the nice messages :)

All of the above messages are good advice and I don't really have anything to add, but I will definitely keep watching the Marc Lepine article as well. Academic Challenger 04:28, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

In such complicated cases of vandalism involving an entire range of IPs, I think WP:AN/I would be a good place to report it. Academic Challenger 04:39, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mark Lepine edit

In a case like this, don't worry about 3RR. It doesn't apply to reverting vandalism. The AIV has some pretty strict rules, editors basically shouldn't be reported there unless its so clear cut that they will be blocked immeditately. I agree with Academic Challenger that its probably time for AN/I. I'll report it there if you want. Dina 12:21, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I took it here [1] to requests for investigation. Semi-protection might work well for this article, at least for a while, since the edits are always anonymous. Let's see. Dina 12:43, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I went ahead and requested semi-protection at WP:RPP after reverting the article today. Dina 15:11, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Xbox portable edit

Since you made the page im gonna ask you, but do you feel the Xbox portable page should still exist? Based on the references which seem a little dated at this point(with one of them appearing to be very out of date - Inquirer Article(07/06) - considering more recent events such as the zune and new model 360s).
