{{helpme}} I really need this draft section, "Emerging Powers: The Decline of Colonial Empires" to be on a subpage, but don't know how to change it to that without moving everything. This draft article will have 4-6 sections, and each one should be a subpage of the main topic, "Emerging Powers." Help! Thanks. Coventry

I would suggest moving the first section, currently at User:Cckessle, to User:Cckessle/EP1. That way, it is its own page. You then create the second section at User:Cckessle/EP2, User:Cckessle/EP3, and so forth. For the typical article, though, we split things along lines of content rather than form. For example, we split Geology of Mercury off from the main article Mercury (planet), and then summarize the Geology in the main article. Geology becomes its own article, and can go into greater depth, while the main article still contains the information by reference. Rather than having six sequential articles, I would suggest having one overarching article from which different topics are split and expanded upon. Looks like an interesting project, though, I'll take a closer look later on. Best, UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 18:19, 13 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} Hi, UltraExactZZ: Thanks. Yes, I understand. The problem is, I don't HOW to MOVE the section to UserCckessle/EP1. Where do I put the link? We will be doing a main article with short summaries, then linking out. I'm just having trouble with the "how" part. Thanks again. ~Cov

Cov, the only way to move sections is by copying and pasting. Create the page User:Cckessle/EP1 and paste the content onto that page that you want. On User:Cckessle, you can either replace that content with [[User:Cckessle/EP1]] to create a link that will look like User:Cckessle/EP1 (only blue once it's created), or you can replace it with {{User:Cckessle/EP1}} which will display all the content from User:Cckessle/EP1 on User:Cckessle in its place. Please let me know if there are any more questions. Thanks! --Mysdaao talk 18:40, 13 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:GLS world map.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 03:47, 9 January 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 03:47, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:GLS British Empire flag.png

Thanks for uploading File:GLS British Empire flag.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:08, 9 January 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 08:08, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:GLS Buy Empire.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:GLS Buy Empire.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 08:10, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:American-dream-is-over.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ww2censor (talk) 00:37, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dear Ww2censor: Believe me, I KNOW Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously! I've been pulling my hair out trying to find origin information for this file. It's posted several places on the internet with no photographer attribution, although the metadata on the &*((*& file shows everything else. At this point I'm assuming I'll have to pull it and all the rest of the images in this project. Please bear with me. I'm still trying to master Wikipedia uploading. All images will be identified or deleted before this project is moved to main pages.

MfD nomination of User:Cckessle/Decline of Colonial Empires

edit

User:Cckessle/Decline of Colonial Empires, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Cckessle/Decline of Colonial Empires and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Cckessle/Decline of Colonial Empires during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 22:52, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ricky. This is Cckessle. Got your message. These pages you have listed were drafts for a course we were considering doing several years ago. They can all be deleted. I have not worked on Wikipedia in a long time and can't remember how to do things. But please feel free to remove all the "Emerging Powers" associated entries. Speedy deletion nomination of User:Cckessle

edit

A tag has been placed on User:Cckessle requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Legacypac (talk) 09:34, 24 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Dear Legacypac: Please note the conversation above from last fall when you decided to delete the cckessle:Decline of Colonial Empire pages. I explained what the project had been about and totally agreed with your plans to delete. However, I recently received a notice that you decided to delete my user page altogether. This I'm not clear about. I haven't been using it or posted anything, but object to be tagged with "Inappropriate use of Wikipedia." If you wish to delete my user page Cckessle for lack of usage, that's fine. Please let me know what's up. Also, I would not find a "Contest this speedy deletion" button on the page. Please advise.
