Userboxes

Hey, I noticed you starting to move userboxes to your new account. Be careful because you'll break quite a lot of userpages when you do so. Is it necessary or can they remain where they are now? Cabe6403 (TalkSign) 12:14, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Master Lock SWP

Hi Casey

In response to your sporep banner on my Talk page, I have recorded a Master Lock recording but for some reason didn't finish uploading it. Heresy, I know! Have you also recorded it? Chris W. (talk) 20:29, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

PlayStation 3 homebrew

Hello, CaseyPenk/Archives/2013, and thank you for your contributions!

An article you worked on PlayStation 3 homebrew, appears to be directly copied from http://www.mod-chip.com/guides/277/ps3-modchip/. Please take a minute to make sure that the text is freely licensed and properly attributed as a reference, otherwise the article may be deleted.

It's entirely possible that this bot made a mistake, so please feel free to remove this notice and the tag it placed on PlayStation 3 homebrew if necessary. MadmanBot (talk) 21:39, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Playstation 4

Hi there, CaseyPenk,

I agree that letting as many people know as possible about the release variety of PS4, therefore, as you may have already noticed, I have re-edited the page to list more continents that the PS4 will be coming to, and of course, the dates that it will be released, if you wish to share anything else on the matter, please do not hesitate to contact, but listing Central and South America together as Latin America, means that all countries in the continent e.g. Chile, Brazil, Peru etc...., will be covered.

Regards,

commonname

A nice addition to your commonname section would be Cat Stevens who has renamed himself as Yousef Islam, but we do not use that name. Gaijin42 (talk) 16:08, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. The text in that index was actually just copied and pasted from WP:COMMONNAME. If you think it should be added to WP:COMMONNAME please go ahead; if you aren't sure please discuss on the talk page for WP:COMMONNAME; namely, Wikipedia talk:Article titles. Thanks for your contribution to the discussion. CaseyPenk (talk) 16:15, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

new section on manning talk

Hi, would you consider trimming that section on manning talk. I think I know what your purpose is, but copy/pasting large sections of poilcy - which are themselves likely to be debated and possibly changed over the next few days/weeks/etc is likely to lead to confusion - I'd suggest just listing the relevant policies as hyperlinks without copying the text. thanks --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 16:17, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Although I think it's much less useful without the full text, I condensed it to keep the page short (in terms of KB / load time especially). Any thoughts on any way we could shorten the talk page? It's so massive and only getting more so. CaseyPenk (talk) 16:45, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
No idea how to make it smaller. It's currently archiving after 3 days - we could update it to archive after 2 days or even 24 hours, but that's rather aggressive. I feel bad for the closing admins. It's not even much of a discussion anymore - just people saying "COMMONNAME" and others saying "BLP/MOS:ID" etc. what a mess - and what an irony that the slate article said "moved without debate" - ha!--Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 16:48, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
I found the BuzzFeed article similarly disappointing.
"Many didn’t know the policy" -- there are a number of policies at play
"But there were some who disagreed with honoring Manning’s choice." -- true, and also some who disagreed on procedural grounds
"While Wikipedia footnoted the source of the name change, it refreshingly didn’t feel the need to have an explanation for why the entry was updated to reveal the current correct language." -- as if Wikipedia were a monolith, or else a sentient being! CaseyPenk (talk) 17:00, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

I just want to thank you for actually starting a move request. How it plays out I don't really care; I think both sides have good points. If we could harness this passion into improving or creating articles .... To shorten, how about putting the closed sections behind show/hide bars, and the move request likewise, in (say) six hour segments (perhaps closing a segment after twenty-four hours? In any case, thank you for thinking! htom (talk) 20:46, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 23:24, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Chelsea Manning

I'm not sure I understand what kind of justification or explanation you're looking for. I've been extensively involved in monitoring a lot of articles for WP:BLP compliance over the years (feel free if you'd like to ask me about the Ukrainian Orthodox bishop!) I'm familiar enough with LGBT issues to know where the WP:BLP and WP:NPOV sensitivities are around those topics (and while I certainly don't claim to be perfect I am pretty well-known around here as a reliable judge of NPOV issues; I've even had self-professed anti-gay editors approach me for help in toning down potential bias in a biography of a gay activist, that's how strong my reputation is about that sort of thing.) And there are quite a few illogical and/or transphobic arguments being made on the talk page, and I'm simply not interested in letting that kind of stuff go unresponded to.

You don't have to agree, but as far as I'm concerned I just don't understand why a transgender person's name is even a topic of debate at all. It's just a no-brainer BLP issue to me — a person comes out as transgender, you switch the pronouns and move the name. It's just not even a question to me, it's just the only appropriate or logical or BLP-compliant way to handle the situation and I genuinely don't understand why there's even an issue about it.

I really don't know what else you want to know. Bearcat (talk) 23:58, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page High-definition (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Chelsea Manning gender identity media coverage

The move has been reverted, as it was attempted without any attempt to gain consensus. The RM for Bradley Manning does not set any precedent for related articles, specifically ones that focus on Chelsea Manning's new name and gender identity. If you believe the article's name should be changed, you should open a new requested move. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 05:24, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
