Josephine Marcus picture.

Btphelps,

Curious at to why you would replace a picture of Josephine Marcus that is inferior to the picture that came before it, i.e., blurry and not colorized. I posted the original picture which stood for 3 years, without anyone seeing the need to change it. I can understand updating the picture with a better one, however, you just re-posted the same picture of lesser quality. No need to reply to this, just an observation made. — Preceding unsigned comment added byDpgtime (talkcontribs) 18:51, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Not sure which other image you are referring to. Perhaps you can provide a link. —btphelps (talk) (contribs) 04:25, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Wyatt Earp GAN

Wyatt Earp was listed as a GA in April, then went through a GAR and was delisted. It is now going through another GAN. Wyatt Earp is one of Wikipedia's most popular articles and is on an important and complex topic. The GAN is on an initial seven day hold while the reviewer checks sources. Meanwhile there is some work to be done on trimming back excessive detail, and on making the article flow more by reducing the amount of subsections. See Talk:Wyatt Earp/GA3 for more detail. I want to help get Wyatt Earp listed as a GA, though I am now very busy in real life, and find that I am unable to keep up with my WP commitments and interests. I have not done the background reading I said I would, and realisticly I will not be able to pay the GAN serious attention for two weeks. What I suggest is that I withdraw - blanking the review page so it becomes available again - allowing someone else to pick it up. Then if it is still available in 2 to 3 weeks, then I can pick it up and give it the attention it deserves. Do you have any objection to this? SilkTork *Tea time 10:23, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Sure, np. thanks for the assist. — btphelps (talk) (contribs) 16:35, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Apologies for screwing up the Behan, Marcus and Wyatt bios

I had confused some other document that has Sadie and Behan living as husband and wife in Tombstone, with the census. The census indeed being taken in June, 1880, when Behan was in Tip Top, and so almost certainly was Marcus. I finally went to look at the census data, and not only are you correct, but I can't believe that Carol Mitchell, the True West Magazine writer of the Lady Sadie article cited so heavily[1] actually misses some vital clues from the census data that "S. Mansfield" of the census (surely the Sadie Mansfield known from other documents previously and indeed listed as "Courtesan" in the census, though single and head of household, as is Behan), is indeed "Sadie" Marcus. Mitchell has other evidence that Josie Marcus was born of German immigrant parents in New York City, between end 1860 and early 61. But she does not mention that the S. Mansfield courtesan of the Tip Top census also lists both her parents as being born in Germany, her birth place as New York, and her age as 19(!) All exactly correct for Marcus. What are the odds of two such people living in such a small place as Tip Top, A.T.? I would think about nil. SBHarris 02:01, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

np, was a good incentive to check on the census and resulted in my finding the data for Sadie "Mansfield". The evidence does suggest pretty strongly that she was a whore for at least 5-6 years and that Johnny was likely her pimp. No wonder she tried so hard to keep her life in Arizona Territory hidden. If I have a chance I'll go to the local family history center and get a look at the census images themselves. I updated theJosephine Earp and Johnny Behan articles accordingly. I'm having a hard time trying to keep the probably order of events in Josephine's life relatively straight. If you can pitch in and help I'd appreciate it. BTW, I'm working on an article about I Married Wyatt Earp. It's nearly done. If you have any thoughts or suggestions let me know. — btphelps(talk) (contribs) 04:08, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
It's shaping up nicely, and I'll see what I can do. It's odd what things emerge as a sum of more than their parts. Example: notice how much Victoria Zaff's two husbands look like each other when placed side by side at the proper ages? I don't think anybody has done that. And note that Zaff is a German name. Behan TWICE takes VERY young San Francisco German girls out West with him, a rather spooky pattern. So close that I would bet money (but can't prove it) that Behan met Josie in San Francisco before she ever sneaked away to Prescott at 14. She didn't just meet him by chance in Prescott-- she was headed for Prescott to be with Behan, who had done what he'd previously done with this first wife-- make a trip back to San Francisco in late 1874 and find a young impressionable girl to romance. I can't prove it, but it's too much coincidence for me.SBHarris 06:44, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Just a quick note

I stumbled across Wyatt Earp last week. What a fascinating read. Thank you for investing the time and energy to work on that. --The sockpuppet of happiness (talk) 17:12, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I appreciate you for taking the time to say thank you. It's been a challenging writing and research project. — btphelps (talk) (contribs) 17:14, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the catch! It's an issue with my browser and a slow connection sometimes. Don't know how it happens. — btphelps (talk) (contribs) 15:22, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

GA review of Wyatt Earp...

I've just reviewed the Wyatt Earp article, and you'll see that I felt that there were some issues with the sourcing. As noted in the review, however, if I can give any further advice etc., I'd be very happy to - I think the article will end up as GA in due course. Hchc2009 (talk) 08:23, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
