Proposed deletion of Nepalese walnuts edit

The article Nepalese walnuts has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is not an encyclopedia article; it is an essay or report about the commercial possibilities of walnut growing in Nepal. It is part of a recent cluster of such essays, described here. We already have an article on this walnut species at Juglans regia.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of Nepalese walnuts for deletion edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Nepalese walnuts is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nepalese walnuts until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. MelanieN (talk) 21:05, 14 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for deleting the article-for-deletion notice. I was confused by the previous notice that stated that I may delete it if I fix above concerns. Bradenweltz (talk) 21:09, 14 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
No apology necessary, that was not a problem. Let me explain: There are actually three levels of "deletion decision" here. The first is "speedy deletion"; your article was not suitable for that. The second is "proposed deletion", or PROD, which is what I had done initially. PROD is for cases where we think deletion will not be controversial, but the decision is delayed a week to see if anyone objects. You objected, so that meant it was controversial, and you were quite right to remove the PROD notice. Once a PROD notice has been removed, it is permanently removed; the article cannot be tagged for PROD again. The third level is "nomination for deletion" which involves a community-wide discussion and decision. That's where your article is now. The AfD (articles for deletion) discussion will remain open for a week. You are perfectly entitled and invited to discuss there why you think the article should be kept. First you might read the notability guidelines, particularly What Wikipedia is not. And if you really want to educate yourself in Wikipedia matters you might also read arguments to avoid in deletion discussions.
An entirely different subject: I can tell that you (unlike your fellow students) are really interested in using Wikipedia and learning how it works. So when I suggest all this reading, I am shamelessly trying to recruit you to stick around here and become a volunteer Wikipedia editor yourself. Yes, even though your first article is getting kind of a rocky reception. (Not your fault, the nature of your assignment was such that the result almost COULDN'T be a Wikipedia article.) Take a look at WP:WELCOME where there are lots of good ideas, and try making a few small edits in existing articles, and you could get hooked. That's what hooked me! If you have questions about Wikipedia, you can ask me here on your talk page; I will see it. --MelanieN (talk) 23:02, 14 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
