Hi, you can sign your comments automatically using four tildes ~~~~. I assume that it was not your intention, but you also removed comments on my talk page from another editor. Please add your messages to the bottom of the talk page.

I deleted your recent article because

  • it did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. It is now wikipedia policy that biographical articles about living people must have independent verifiable references. As a matter of policy, all biographies of living people will be deleted if they do not have references. Although you gave references, all were to sources either related to Davis, such as Linkedin and the two companies, or to Imdb, which is not accepted as a proper source. It merely confirms the existence of films, not their notability.
  • None of the films or companies is linked to existing Wikipedia articles, which suggests that they are not notable either. The films were shown on cable TV, which doesn't inspire confidence. A Google search came up with relatively few hits for this Ronald Davis (I also searched for Ronald Adam Davis). Also see the notability guidelines for companies and for films (you can link through from the main notability page).
  • It was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, and contentious content should have in-line references to independent sources. The claim went on to garner over 10 awards lacks such a reference, and we don't even know what the awards were. The company and film names were fully capitalised, which is very spammy, and there appears to have been no adverse criticism of the films.
  • The article was created in a single edit without wikilinks or references, but with some strange non-wiki coding. It looks as if was copied from an unknown and possibly copyrighted source. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. I didn't check for this, since I felt that it did not meet the criteria above anyway. RON DAVIS to Jim Bleak

edit

Hi, Jim

So sorry-did not mean to delete anything. I'm obviously not as proficient with all this as I would like to be I would like to re-submit the page for Ron Davis-I love his film PAGEANT and saw the trailer for another that is terrific. He has won a lot of film festivals, as well and really seems to me, at least to be well worth the proper criteria for inclusion. IF I put it on my sandbox page, does that somehow help? Please tell me how to do this ? I also am not sure how best to structure the data entry for the page. For the main info can I just put

and then my text and then close it?

I do a lot of writing for museums and in film. I really do think that this guy has something and would love to give it another shot if you'll help me?

Hi Nancy, thanks for your message. I don't watch talk pages, so I didn't see the above. Have a look at Cameron Mackintosh. It's only a start class article, but it gives some structure and shows you how to do references. I didn't want to scare you with a Featured Article level biography! If you do your draft here, and let me know when you are ready, I'll be happy to have a look. Remember that however much you admire this guy, the text must be neutral and encyclopaedic, good luck Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:24, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

---reply-- HI, JIM! THANKS SO MUCH---this is very helpful. I do understand. So---I'm putting a page up in my sandbox this am for you to look at. I decided to first do a page for the movie itself. I'm still not sure I have the references down right but I'm giving it a go. I have Village Voice, IMDB and a variety of others. If you have time, would be very grateful for any help. Nancy

--PS-- I'm not sure how to upload a photo of the movie poster.....or photos, in general. Gosh I'm a pain. So sorry.

I'll have a look tomorrow, too late for me this evening. To upload photos, go to here, but note that unless your image is explicitly public domain or your own photo, it has little chance of meeting the strict copyright requirements. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 20:47, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Jim Just checking in to see whether or not my PAGEANT page is okay? I'll bag the photo-I'd add cast and crew if you think it is okay.

NEW RON DAVIS PAGE----

I can add links after you deem whether this is okay, as well:

RON DAVIS FILMMAKER
RONALD ADAM DAVIS.

EARLY LIFE

Davis was born in 1968 in Morristown, New Jersey, the son of Ron Davis & Dale E. Davis.

Davis was a competitive equestrian on the national hunt seat equitation and hunter circuit during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. He trained with Michael Hennaghan and Gary Zook out of Huntover Farm in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

Early Career and Influences

Davis graduated from Kinnelon High school in 1986 then attended Syracuse University. His early career started in sales and marketing in the book publishing industry in New York City, where he worked as a sales assistant at William Morrow Publishing. He worked his way up the industry ladder with sales positions at HarperCollinsCollege Publishers, Pitman Publishing and Batsford Brassey before landing a Sales Director position at Simon & Schuster and ultimately becoming the Vice President of Special/International Sales & Subsidiary Rights at Barnes’s & Noble owned Sterling Publishing.

In 2004, Davis became interested in filmmaking and while maintaining his publishing career attended night classes at the New York Film Academy. His first two narrative shorts, THE BUSINESS TRAVELER and THE GARDEN, garnered him a spot as a top-ten finalist in the 2004 Esquire Magazine Celluloid Style film competition.

Influenced and inspired by the documentary work and careers of The Maysles Brothers, he wanted to create a body of work that looked at the beauty behind the smaller documentary stories. He is attracted to stories about groups that are disenfranchised and/or marginalized in today’s society.

Body of Work

In 2005, he founded Cineaste Productions with HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER producer, Stewart Halpern, where they produced and directed several industrial documentaries. In 2008, Davis & Halpern co-directed and co-produced PAGEANT, a documentary that explored the behind-the-scenes drama behind the 52 men competing for the crown in the 34th Miss Gay America Contest. PAGEANT went on to garner over 10 major film festival awards before airing on the Sundance Channel in 2010 and being distributed worldwide by Wolfe Video.

In 2011, Davis founded Docutainment Films, LLC (www.docutainmentfilms.com) in West Palm Beach, Florida. He has several projects in development and in production, including an HBO feature, which he is directing and producing to air in 2013.

I noticed your submission in Articles for creation, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/PAGEANT-THE MOVIE. Thanks! It will be reviewed by a volunteer soon.

Before it can be added to Wikipedia, your submission should have references. All articles on Wikipedia should have inline, numbered references after facts, showing the 'reliable source' (a newspaper, book, etc.) where the information can be checked, so that all information is verifiable.

Here's a video tutorial - hit play, then right-click for "full screen".

Here's an example of how to add references:

Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea.<ref> Smith, John. "[http://foonews.com/Article42 Interview with Chzz]", Foo News, 1 April 2010. Retrieved 2011-05-22. </ref>

== References ==

{{reflist}}

That makes the references automatically display as small numbers[1] which will link to the details in the section titled == References == at the end. You can see that example in action here.

Please add references to your submission, which will be reviewed as soon as possible. See also, Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. If you need any help, just put {{helpme}} at the end of this page, followed by a question or get into our live help chat chanel at #wikipedia-en-help connect.

I have edited your recent AfC submission Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/PAGEANT: THE DOCUMENTARY per Manual of Style guidelines. I am not sure what your intent was with the References section, please take a look at referencing for beginners and Help:Footnotes for helps on how to construct references for your draft. Shearonink (talk) 13:36, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I would prefer to keep all these related posts about Pageant together here on your talkpage.
Referencing is much simpler than it seems at first. First, I suggest you take a look at some Wikipedia Good Articles about documentaries, for instance An Inconvenient Truth or The Most Hated Family in America. Use their structure and coding as examples. Hit the edit tab and see the coding that lies underneath the surface, you can even cut&paste (just) the coding to use in your editing if you like what it does. One thing to think of for references is that you need to source specific statements.
Secondly, here is a sample of how referencing works:
What the reader will see:
Bonchic is an editor. [1] Bonchic is working on Pageant. [2]
What the code actually looks like:
Bonchic is an editor. <ref>reference BaaBaa</ref> Bonchic is working on ''Pageant''. <ref>reference BooBoo</ref>
Your reader will see the References section looking like this:
== References ==
  1. ^ reference BaaBaa
  2. ^ reference BooBoo
The coding will actually look like this:
== References ==
{{reflist}}
Hope this helps, Shearonink (talk) 14:47, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

The film explores the behind-the-scenes dramas and realities of the 34th Miss Gay America Contest. Davis and Halpern focused upon how each of the 52 men competing manages to create themselves, without artifice as the pageant forbids any enhancements or surgery. The film’s central theme is the universal desire, regardless of gender to be beautiful, noticed and chosen; and the right to follow one’s dreams. The film went on to garner 10 major film festival awards before airing on the Sundance Channel in 2010.

  Hello Bonchic. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about following reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Hi. When you recently edited Pageant (documentary), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ron Davis (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). File permission problem with File:PAGEANT poster.pdf

edit

Thanks for uploading File:PAGEANT poster.pdf. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 00:04, 21 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
