Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation

GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

January barnstar

  The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar
This barnstar is awarded to Bobnorwal for copy editing articles totalling over 8000 words in the January GOCE Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Diannaa (Talk) 17:38, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Copy-edit

hello,

thank you for your copy-edit. I think you deleted some useful informations, for example how much categories the Golden Eagle Awards have and that the correct title is not known. Explain why you deleted this information. And please suggest something to increase the topic of the lead. Thank you.-- ♫Greatorangepumpkin♫ T 10:11, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

I wonder how it is that the "correct title is not known" though I assume it is just a matter of translation. I deleted the alternative title because, really, there didn't seem to be much variation, just the same thing with the word "Awards" taken out. And about the number of awards (20)... I hope you can fit it back in there somewhere. I never intended to deprive the article of possibly important information. And things to add... how about people who've hosted the event? Or some information about how the award came about? And you could always mine the articles of other prominent awards for more ideas.Bobnorwal (talk) 15:56, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.

Progress report

We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Utahraptor resigns

The UtahraptorTalk to me has decided to step down from his position as project coordinator due to real-life issues.

GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.

Progress report

Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.

New coodinators

On March 21, SMasters appointed Chaosdruid (talk) and Torchiest (talk) as Guild coordinators to serve in place of The Utahraptor, who recently stepped down. Please feel free to contact any coordinator if you have any questions or need assistance.

The goals of this backlog elimination drive are to eliminate as many articles as possible from the 2009 backlog and to reduce the overall backlog by 15%. ! NEW ! In an effort to encourage the final elimination of all 2009 articles, we will be tracking them on the leaderboard for this drive.

GOCE May 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

There were 63 signups for the drive; of these, 45 participated. Although we did not award a bonus for articles from the Requests page this drive, we are not experiencing lengthy delays in getting the articles processed. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.

Progress report

During the month of May we reduced the backlog by approximately 10%, and made remarkable progress on eliminating articles tagged from 2009. There are now only 15 articles left, down from the 415 that were present when the drive started. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 54% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Coodinator election

The six-month term for our first tranche of Guild coordinators will be expiring at the end of June. We will be accepting nominations for the second tranche of coordinators, who will also serve a six-month term. Nominations will open starting on June 5. RE Mind Over Murder

Read your list of probleams and it seems good. Removed the name of the bar and the name of the song becuase I don't think there are any refrences. Also fixed the name thing. I think it would be good for you to nominate it for GA, you may want to ask the previous reviewer to review it again. If you need help with the review please tell me. Hey do you happen to have the DVD of the first season of family guy. Pedro J. the rookie 17:53, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Well the only episode that is left for GA (except for Mind Over Murder, which I see the review is going well) is The Son Also Draws and the production section needs some info and I have found out that there are commentiere of that episode on the DVD so if you could look over it and find some intresting production notes I'd be grateful. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.

So far, 45 people have signed up for the drive, of which 30 are actively participating, a very high participation rate. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us.

Progress report

Progress has been less than that needed to meet our target for the drive (which would reduce the backlog by about 400 articles). Remember though, if everyone copy edits one or two articles every day, we will easily meet our goal. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. Reducing the number of articles on this list has been a major success of this drive. Thanks for participating!

GOCE July 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Here is your end-of-drive report.

Participation

50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.

Progress report

During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.

Requests page

Please remember that the GOCE Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated.

Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there!

I removed this entry from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2012 January 26 because ERikm had not been tagged for deletion, nor had any Articles for deletion page been created to explain why the page was supposed to be deleted. If you still believe the page should be deleted, you are free to do the nomination over; I have not made any judgment about whether the page should be kept or deleted. To nominate the page for deletion, please see WP:AFDHOWTO and follow steps I, II, and III. Thank you on Scarlet Heart

I am appreciating that you are willing to help copy-edit and trimming down Scarlet Heart. Thank you very much.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 00:06, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for the copy edit. Do you think it is excessive too long, or should I remove the plot template if it meets the satisfactory length?--NeoBatfreak (talk) 01:11, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm still working on it, and I haven't completely made up my mind about whether it's too long. I mean, as it's written now it doesn't seem particularly long winded, and I'm having trouble finding things to take out. On the other hand, we may be able to gloss over a lot of it instead of going point by point. I mean, the plot section of the article about the book on which this show is based is only like two paragraphs! In any case, we probably should trim it. If you take this article any farther -- GA, for instance -- people will probably continue to ask you to trim the plot section. I'll take another look at it soon. Bobnorwal (talk) 01:25, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you very much.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 02:10, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you very much. It summary's length seems to be in Wikipedia's standard and still didn't leave out the important stuff. I guess the grammar has been fixed now? Then thanks again.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 02:08, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I'm basically done copyediting it. Let me know if I made any major mistakes. I'm not sure if it's perfect -- in fact, I'm sure I unwittingly added some of my own native American spelling and typos that probably need to be rewritten -- but I'm confident that the article is at least more readable than when I found it. Hope I helped. Bobnorwal (talk) 02:40, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes you did. Thanks.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 04:22, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
