Murder of Gwen Araujo

Can you keep an eye out on Murder of Gwen Araujo? It's persistently being hit with biased edits, and I've hit the 3RR. Rebecca (talk) 03:34, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

sure. -- Banjeboi 03:45, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

You have done more than hit 3RR, you have made 4 reverts (on 2 articles) - due to me being damn reasonable and kind, I am discussing the articles with you, instead of filing 2x3RR reports. Sennen goroshi (talk) 03:53, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Blink blink - excuse me? You may look at not just the letter but also the spirit of the 3RR. Please feel free to report me as I don't think I have violated either. In response to what I see as rather transphobic and biased editing I have introduced NPOV and sourced content. I have no idea what you have done as i have not looked into your editing there or elsewhere. And in answer to the question - did I have other things to tend to here today - Yes, a full plate of items and instead I've had to research two completely notable subjects to prove they're still notable. Please consider reviewing your "damn reasonable and kind" actions and know that this editor finds them bullying and transphobic. -- Banjeboi 04:26, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

That comment was directed towards Rebecca, if you don't like my comment, then feel free to respond to it, delete it - but do not stick a headline in front of it to make it seem as if it was directed towards you. If you find me talking rather than making 3RR reports bullying, then that is your problem not mine. If you are unable to assume good faith, and consider me transphobic/homophobic/whatever_phobic then yet again, your problem, not mine - if you consider every comment that you dislike to stem from some bigoted phobia, then wikipedia is not going to be easy for you. Rethink your comments about me, I am not homophobic and I take great offence in being labeled as such. Sennen goroshi (talk) 05:03, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'm glad your comment - on my talkpage and directly below my comment - was actually not intended for me. you may want to rethink lobbing such strongly worded statements without being quite clear for who they are intended. Or the above may happen. I'm sorry you took offense at anything I wrote I stand by the content and spirit of improving these articles and found myself getting frustrated at having all that sourced content simply reverted. -- Banjeboi 14:48, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Two things.

  • One: re those two "murder of" articles: please continue to kick ass and/or take names wherever necessary to keep those articles alive and valid. I practically vomit at the thought that anyone is trying to make the argument that Gwen Araujo and Amanda Milan were "non-notable".
  • Two: your "random image" on your userpage, File:Homosexual scene - 420 BCE, Dinos painter - Capua - GR 1772.3-20.154 F65 - British Museum.jpg is, alas, a redlink. I managed not to follow it to the deletion discussion--again, I suspect it would make me nauseated. (My best friend just sent me photos from the anti-Prop8 demonstration in L.A....there were a couple of That Other Kind in there, too--you know, the ones with the big fat Bible quotes on them. Urggh. I'll be swigging the Pepto now...Wonder how well it goes with vodka??? hmmm.)
  • Extra added bonus third thing: Hang in there. I know how it feels to be just so sick and tired of everything you see that you have to get away from it just to recover. Except I'd imagine you have about ten thousand times the "everything" to deal with. GJC 05:11, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Any chance you could dig up some references for the Mathew Shepard comparison in the Araujo article? It needs to be made, but it also needs to be referenced - I lack the patience to do this stuff, and it seems to be your kind of thing. Rebecca (talk) 05:32, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

I'll see if I can find anything.... GJC 07:10, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
For the record, the protest in LA was amazing! The transportation was awful and the protesters protesting the protest sucked, but it was impossible to walk away from it not feeling good. For the first time in a long time it feels like the LGBT community is becoming cohesive again. Hopefully we can get that suck ass amendment overturned with a quickness. Otherwise keep up the good work on the articles. AniMate 05:50, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Cheers to all, thank you for the support, I met some of my goals and deadlines but the dehumanizing murder victims - any murder victims seems awfully icky and generally a terrible idea.
I've spruced up the Gwen Araujo lede and cleaned up the talkpage. Check out the talkpage at gay panic defense to see how Gwen raped these guys - gosh I wonder if these guys think she raped them now that they can compare notes in prison? Hmmmm.
For protesting you can never beat a lesbian softball team and a case of eggs. A friend of mine had great fun with religious protesters at an AIDS walk - you know, because if you're supporting people with AIDS you obviously have the wrong God. Everytime they would yell something like "God will judge you - he will ...", my friend would quickly correct them - "she will". it just had them unnerved. You could also try flirting with them - point at their butts and giggle a lot, get creative! -- Banjeboi 15:01, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
You have just been added to my eternal List of Greatest Quotes: "For protesting you can never beat a lesbian softball team and a case of eggs." One of the awesomest things anyone has said in my vicinity in several days, thank you. GJC 17:00, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Please do not attack other editors, which you did here: Talk:Gwen_Araujo. If you continue, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. There is simply no reason to resort to ad hominem to express your view. Lihaas (talk) 12:27, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

My reply to you in full was
I stand by this. Your POV seems awfully zealous - and not in a good way. Some are zealous for good writing, good grammar, better sourcing. I'm not sure what your interest is but if your cause is to dehumanize LGBTI people then you will find me locked horns in opposition. If you don't like LGBTI people then it might be more productive for you to edit articles on subjects you do like. It will likely be better for Wikipedia as well. This is not a soapbox but neither is it a battleground. -- Banjeboi 04:26, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

This was a very gracious and well reasoned comment. Thank you. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 03:36, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

David Benkof

Benjiboi, on November 12 you made this edit to the article on David Benkof. Could you please explain why? I see no particular reason why Benkof's biography must contain a link to Timothy Kincaid's blog (or anybody's blog, for that matter), and I am inclined to remove it. I have started a discussion about this on the talk page; I believe that your edit clearly violates WP:EL#AVOID. Devil Goddess (talk) 07:27, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Blogs get a bad rap on Wikipedia and rightly so in many cases. However there are many blogs that are informative, factual and helpful to our readers and I think this one is in that category. Box Turtle News goes above and beyond to present quotes, names, dates, places and sources. This criticism along the lines of investigative journalism is likely beyond the scope of what Wikipedia would include on a WP:BLP at a featured article level which is also a standard for our external links. I normally cringe at blogs at first blush myself but we need to be open that many media outlets and experts in their field also have blogs. Box Turtle News seems to uniquely covering LGBT subjects and doing so rather well. -- Banjeboi 21:57, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

List of notable people who wore the bowler hat cleanup

Thanks for adding those refs and doing some cleanup. Darned decent of you. If the people fulminating for its deletion had used the same amount of time instead, using google and doing the same gruntwork, the thing would be A-class already. SBHarris 01:16, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Our Feature Presentation...

I appreciate your comments at the AfD, and yes... writing about films and saving articles can be exceedingly dreary. How can anyone ever handle writing a plot synopsis is one has never seen the film and can only go by online sources? I can sense that rewriting something I have read could be called OR or synthesis. Now I has rewritten that section as seen here, but the darn thing got tagged before I could make the intended switchout. Sigh. What to do? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 01:28, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Do a quick rewrite of the text that the bot is tagging. I suggest, add spaces between each sentence and then each sentence fragment. Make better or different word choices, and wikify as you go. the piece the text back together. You'll never beat the bots! -- Banjeboi 01:32, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Been done. Watch my smoke! Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 01:35, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Lol! Good work!

Okay... a couple of bumps. Per this diff, my rewritten synopsis has been further rewritten by User talk:Skomorokh to address and remove copyvio. Bless him. I have been granted permission to merge the reworded text back into the main article, now thatthe copyvio has been addressed... and naturally to remove the tag. I just spent the last 45 mintes trying to sort through WP:MERGE and came up more confused than ever. Because we are speaking about such a small amount of text, wouldn't it simply be easier to do a cut and paste and refer to the permission granted by the Admin to then remove the tag? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 02:46, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

The copyvio bit hadn't been recorded where it was suppose to be anyway - I think those are usually for much larger sections - so i boldly removed it. Carry on! -- Banjeboi 03:00, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

You da bomb, thank you. I have now replaced the bad synopsis with an approved plot and since we now have cites, removed a out-of-date footnote tag. And naturally, I left an explanation and link to the permission in the edit notes section. Even still, the article is weak. If it had been put up in 2006, there would have been no AfD and no debate, as notability for then would have been accepted... and no one would quibble 2 years later because there was no new news, as notability is not temporary. But with the article being new and the sources being old... what a quandary. And then there is a new argument about it currently having only an area-local notability... though I know of nothing in WP:NF that mandates notability must be world-wide. I am hoping production follows through with their promise to point the way to newer sourcing. This way I can recreate a better article in a few days or weeks if it is deleted. Thanks for the good looking out. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 03:12, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

List of people killed because they were transgender

I fear you may come under fire for not following the "temporary page" instruction in the {{copyvio}} template. It may be that you simply are unaware of it. I applaud your efforts to save this article (though I remain unconvinced of its place in WP), so suggest you might be better served by following the process. Please understand that this note is supportive of your efforts and seeking to remove a possible area of contention.

Of course, because the AfD closes before the copyvio closes I do understand your rationale. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 11:28, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

That copyvio template - which is pretty ominous and overbearing - was added by an editor who's had a troubling record of targeting LGBT murder victim articles. It's a short list so I'm just going to fix it. There are serious copyvio issue on many articles but this really should just be fixed so I'm doing it. -- Banjeboi 11:44, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
You may be interested to see that I have withdrawn my nomination for AfD based upon your work in the article. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 14:36, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Cheers. It's taking longer to source and suss it out but one way or another I'll finish the current list. -- Banjeboi 14:41, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

the GA review process will be closing on this today, i understand you like to keep busy, but if you do not at least begin to address the issues on the article today i will have to fail it - significant edits would encourage me to give a further 1 week extension (especially since a 2nd review may bring to light additional requirements). regards! -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria 06:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

My apologies - I've been having to pace myself to deal with some rather distasteful events. I'll try to address these issues today. -- Banjeboi 10:45, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
sorry, i had to fail the article today - there is a significant backlog at WP:GAN and a page full of "on hold" articles does no one any good. No worries though :) Once you've addressed the problems on the talk page, you are more than welcome to renominate it. Cheers! -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria 15:54, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Re: Never (word)

Help, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Never (word). Never was a disambiguation page, before see[1] I wanted to add more information to the word Never, about funny sayings which express the notion never in different languages, like for example: When hell freezes over.

The page would looked complicated otherwise.[2]. I thought I create a separate article for the word and keep the rest as a disambiguation page

About the article never, people agreed on that it was ok to expand it, see my talk page. I did not wanted to make a dictionary of it, I just wanted to add funny sayings. .

Warrington (talk) 12:39, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

You were bold but sadly it didn't come out in a useful enough way on this one. We do have articles on words but they need to be treated more encyclopedicly. I'll leave a comment on the AfD. -- Banjeboi 13:32, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes I am fairly new and bold. And Wikistressed. The reason was this article [3], I agreed with the author that is very hard to find information on this matter. I thougt Wikipedia is a perfect place for an article like this. I think the information is interesting and I wish that it could be saved in some way somewhere.

Warrington (talk) 13:59, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Well first off, don't take it too personally - even if it is meant that way - because you'll only frustrate yourself. Stress is generally not healthy in that regard. We do have an article on phraseology but even the sister project, Wiktionary, would likely dismiss most of the translating of a word.
If I may suggest ... start with an easier and simpler subject and just get the gist of working on Wikipedia in general. I do a lot in the LGBT so have plenty of vandals and people who just don't like LGBT people so sometimes I work on more basic articles that simply need help cleaning up and formatting (wikifying). If you do decide to build a new article I'd be happy to have a look and help a bit. -- Banjeboi 14:11, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

After your comment everybody was much more patient and nice with me. Maybe Wiktionary will take the stuff. And I will be happy to ask you about advice if I start a new article again.

Warrington (talk) 10:57, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you! We need to support people who are trying to improve the project - hostility should be vectored offsite to video-games or something! -- Banjeboi 15:48, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
