License tagging for File:Mike Joseph & Rachel Evans.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mike Joseph & Rachel Evans.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:05, 17 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Mike_Joseph_&_Rachel_Evans.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mike_Joseph_&_Rachel_Evans.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 21:22, 12 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Mike Joseph Bench Press King, and I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Benchpressking", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website which relates to the entity in question, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or accounts that are shared. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our Conflict of interest guideline and Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. The name you have chosen coupled with the article you seem very adamant about pushing to article space suggests that you have a very significant COI. Perhaps it would be better if you didn't edit this any more and let natural processes of notability sort out the submission. Hasteur (talk) 14:47, 1 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Request reason:

I am not a group or company, I am trying to get a Wikipedia page for my accomplishments I have done of the last 15 years as a powerlifiting champion. I am a world record holder and I am an individual. Please can you unblock my page so that I can carry on editing it. Benchpressking (talk) 10:27, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

We don't get to write about ourselves on Wikipedia. --jpgordon::==( o ) 14:27, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

So if I can not write about myself, please tell me the point in having a Wikipedia page. I see many people have written a Wikipedia page about themselves, I am lost and confused. Benchpressking (talk) 23:53, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

I think you see many articles about people. They are not personal pages like you get at Facebook or MySpace. They are articles ABOUT people, not BY people. Just as articles about companies are not by their marketing departments. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not social media , and it is not a free webhost or profile host like LinkedIn. The point of editing Wikipedia is to help to create the encyclopaedia. If your only reason for being here is to write about yourself, you'd do better going round all the other places, the ones that do host profiles and allow you to promote yourself. Request reason:

I want to make people aware that you can be the best at my sport without using all the drugs that are associated with the sport. I am totally drug free and this is what I want to promote about my sport. I am not just here to promote me and my achievements. Benchpressking (talk) 09:58, 9 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Declining without prejudice to further requests. I think you still don't get it. You're trying to make a point, to get a message across. That's not what we are here for. I hope you can manage to get the 'you don't need drugs to succeed' message across, but we can't help you with it. Please see WP:NOBLE and WP:COATRACK. Those aren't policies, but they are essays that explain the policies quite well. (We have some odd looking shortcuts - there's even a WP:DUCK...) Once again, good luck - but this isn't the place. Request reason:

This is way to complicated. Please can you explain in plain English why someone would have a wiki page if its not about them or about what they do. You say it is not to promote anything but everything on wiki is about someone or something ??????. I really need to read up more about this.

Decline reason:

Yes, you do ... that's the understatement of the year. You might want to start by wrapping your brain around this "encyclopedia" concept. — Daniel Case (talk) 18:45, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

BPK You have been blocked because your actions give the impression that you are trying to promote a specific subject (Mike Joseph) and user Wikipedia as a venue for promotion. This is against the purpose of Wikipedia. While it is true that there may be editors for which there is a Wikipedia article, there is a rule that prevents the subject of an article from directly changing the article or it's contents. The way this is finessed is the subject presents themselves as an authority on themselves and offers suggestions on the talk page of the article. The AfC page you were working on has some claims for notability. Some of them are more compelling than others. However because none of the claims to notability were not cited, it was impossible to verify. For example we could claim that Arnold Schwarzenegger discovered uranium. Without any citations to back up the claim all we have is a unproven claim that could be a hoax. If you ever get free of the block you should focus on independent coverage of Mike Joseph's notability as an individual (not as part of a team). Hasteur (talk) 15:11, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
There are lots of pages (articles, we call them) about people. They are not the property of those people, not like on Facebook where your page is your page and only you (or a hacker...) can edit it. Articles here are ABOUT people who are notable. They are not BY the people themselves, and anyone who isn't blocked or banned (and who has internet access, of course) can edit those articles. (William Shakespeare certainly didn't write the article about him...) You're still thinking in terms of social media or directories, where people write about themselves. This is different. You must have come across or heard of the Encyclopaedia Britannica or Encarta. We're like them, except that we're free and have thousands and thousands of editors. As Hasteur says, we don't edit articles about ourselves. If you can show that you do now understand this, there are editors who can work with you to see if an article can be made about you. But until you really understand what Wikipedia is, there's no point in trying. I don't mean understand how everything works - heck, I'm an admin and I don't know the half of it. I mean understand why we are here and what we are here for. OK? Peridon (talk) 18:14, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
