File copyright problem with File:Warrington Colescott 2007.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Warrington Colescott 2007.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. DES (talk) 20:00, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can you tell me anything about the copyright status of this image? It is a good one and I'd like it to be able to remain. DES (talk) 22:15, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I obtained this image of Warrington Colescott directly from his wife, Frances Myers, who gave me her permission to use it. I am going to see if I can figure out how to tag it as "free" -- I am still learning my way around Wikipedia! Thanks for your support, DESiegel.

Barcham (talk) 15:43, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

DESiegel--would you please take a look at the image and see if I solved the copyright issue? I borrowed wording I found for an image posted of the artist Red Grooms, but I am not sure if it is legit. Thanks! Barcham (talk) 16:00, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
That is a start, but not quite enough. If Frances Myers has posted this permission publicly, please link to where she did so. If it was in an email to you, you need to forward that email to "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org" with
When you have done that, place {{OTRS pending}} on the image. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for more details on this process, and related info. DES (talk) 17:24, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Note that the permission must not be simply for you to use it, or even for Wikipedia to use it. It must be a free license, which means that anyone in the world may use or modify it, provided that proper attribution is given. This includes commercial use. Failing that we could try for inclusion under Fair use, but that might be tricky. If she did grant worldwide permission the final tage will probably be {{Attribution}} \.
Since we now have basic info, i have, for the moment, removed the pending deletion tag.
FYI when you want another Wikipedia user to take notice of comments on your talk page, or on another page, put a note on that user's talk page to notify him or her. The {{talkback}} template can be used for this purpose, but a simple note will do the job if you prefer. Otherwise there is no telling when a user will check back on somewhere that s/he ahs posted in the past. I tend to check back more often than some, but still... DYK and Warrington Colescott edit

If some of the citation issues on Warrington Colescott can be cleaned up promptly, the article might be a candidate for Wikipedia:Did you know, in my view. DES (talk) 21:14, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

If you think you have fixed the issues, or that the tag is incorrect, you may remove it. If removing a tag without making changes it is advisable to discuss why on the article talk page, but not required. Any user may do this. DES (talk) 21:57, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Looks much improved to me. Note that if the removed text were supported by valid cites it might be fine. Note also that my opnion is jsut that, my opnion, I don't have veto powers around here, an more than anyone else. DES (talk) 22:09, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

DYK nomination of Warrington Colescott edit

Hello! Your submission of Warrington Colescott at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! otherlleft 19:50, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Since the biggest open question is about the image, if you need help getting the permission lined up let me know. I got through the process successfully once. There are probably more experienced editors in this area, but I'm available should you choose to ask me.--otherlleft 19:54, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
