 Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Hello Awam King! Your additions to Rashad al-Alimi have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ― Tartan357 Talk 05:41, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

@Tartan357 OK, got it, thank you. Awam King (talk) 05:47, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Hi @Tartan357.
I just want to ask you about the difference between the file below and the one ( image of Rashad al-Alimi) I have uploaded days ago in terms of copyright. Thank you.

Orphaned non-free image File:AbdulSalam Sabrah.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:AbdulSalam Sabrah.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:03, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Ministry of Defense (Yemen) moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Ministry of Defense (Yemen), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 09:03, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Bios

Ok, here it goes:

  • For biographies, you need to define WP:DEFAULTSORT. This ensures that in categories, the entries are sorted by surname rather than given name. I assume that in "al-Aqili", the "al" bit is part of the surname. Correct? If so, this is how it's done.
  • Check links when you've written something (Amran linked to a disambiguation page)
  • Important: for living people, you must provide a reference for the birth date (or year). If it's unreferenced, the date (or year) must be removed. Looking at the sources in Google translate, I assume that it's unreferenced.
  • I guess the biggest weakness of your articles is that they are all extremely short. Or this at least applies to the articles that I have seen.
  • The other general weakness that I've seen thus far is that referencing is a bit thin. One reference for a bio, for example, is clearly not good enough.

Does that help? Please ask questions. Here's good. Schwede66 10:28, 3 October 2022 (UTC)

thanks dear @Schwede66.
That's very helpful.
Of course I still need your help, so I will ask you whenever i get a problem or questions.
Thanks Awam King (talk) 20:10, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Please do. If you want, I can cast my eye over your next articles. Schwede66 20:51, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
I have applied your comments and made edits to the three following articles. Can you please review them?
-Ibrahim Haidan
-Sultan al-Barakani
-Faraj Salmin Al-Buhsani
Also give me your opinion about these articles;
-Sagheer Hamoud Aziz
-Mohsen Mohammed Al-Daeri
-Abdullah al-Alimi Bawazeer
-Ministry of Defense (Yemen)
-Ministry of Interior (Yemen)
Of course I have created all above articles.
Thanks Awam King (talk) 20:59, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Hi dear @Schwede66
for the information you changed to in this link
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sultan_al-Barakani&diff=prev&oldid=1113927634 Awam King (talk) 22:50, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Ok, I've had a go at the first two bios. With the second one (Sultan al-Barakani), the source gives a different place of birth than what you had. Please check. I could not work out why reference #3 (the parliamentary bio) has an author; can you please check why that is there and if it is correct, please show the author in Latin script. And as I said earlier, as per WP:DOB, you must not show a date of birth if you haven't got a reliable secondary source that confirms it; I have removed day and month from the al-Barakani bio as only the year is referenced. Can I suggest that you have a go at the third bio? I've bookmarked it and will "look over your shoulder". I'll give you feedback once you are done, and will then move onto the other articles. Schwede66 22:52, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
His birthplace was in Taiz, not in Sana'a, and thie source was wrong in this information.
Here is a reliable source alaraby.co.uk Awam King (talk) 22:56, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Now you know how to do it, I suggest you amend the article accordingly. :-) Schwede66 23:01, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Ok, i did it. Thanks  :-) Awam King (talk) 23:35, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
I added a new official reliable reference and updated his birthplace and brith date. Same district and date of the reference #4, previously reference #3. Awam King (talk) 01:28, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Were you trying to say "thank you"? Not sure what you are saying. Schwede66 22:53, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, trying to say thank you. Awam King (talk) 22:54, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
It's wrong.

Please have a read of MOS:DATEFORMAT before you edit Faraj Salmin Al-Buhsani. Schwede66 23:05, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
I've now reviewed all the above articles. One more issue that I spotted is that there are categories added to talk pages. Those need to be removed; it is the various project tags that place the talk pages into various categories. Everything is automated; no human intervention is ever required. Schwede66 06:05, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
ok Awam King (talk) 20:04, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
you mean like categories here in this page Talk:Sultan al-Barakani? Awam King (talk) 20:47, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
No. What you see on that talk page are all categories automatically created by the project tags. What I mean is that I've come across several pages where categories had been added manually. When you have the page open in edit mode, you can see that there aren't any categories on that page. I've removed some talk page categories in this example. Schwede66 01:31, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, i really noticed that. Awam King (talk) 01:36, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

Sagheer Hamoud Aziz

Cool. Please have a go at Sagheer Hamoud Aziz now. Do you think you've learned a couple of things? Schwede66 02:25, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Of course, i have learned a lot of things.
Thanks Awam King (talk) 02:34, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Looking good! If you want to improve it further, convert the two bulleted lists to prose as per MOS:USEPROSE. Once done, the article is in good shape and the only other potential improvement is to expand it. Schwede66 06:29, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Sure, but let us continue editing other articles now and then get back to improve this article. Awam King (talk) 19:21, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

I have also edited these two articles now:

  • [[Cabinet of Yemen|Yemeni internationally-recognized government]] is a somewhat surprising link; I'd say it meets the definition of WP:EASTEREGG (which should be avoided). Maybe say it like so? "He is the former Interior Minister of the Cabinet of Yemen, the Yemeni government that is internationally-recognized." In addition, please provide trans-title in the references. Schwede66 02:00, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

and these:

  • Please have a look at MOS:DATERANGE. If the endash needs to be spaced, it needs to be spaced on both sides. 1968- 3 December 2021 is wrong on two fronts: you need an endash (not a hyphen) for date ranges, and it needs to be spaced (because one of the dates has spaces in it). It should look like so: 1968 – 3 December 2021. Schwede66 02:08, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

I have created this new article Mohammed Al-Hadhrami Awam King (talk) 00:41, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Forgot to tell you that I also created Portal:Yemen. Took a lot of time and effort. Awam King (talk) 20:10, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

I can't say that I've ever looked at a Portal, so wouldn't know the first thing about those. Schwede66 02:11, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Defaultsort

I was having second thoughts about {{DEFAULTSORT}}. Not being an Arabic-speaker, I wondered what the function of "al" is in surnames. My hunch was right and it needs to be omitted for indexing: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Arabic#Collation in alphabetical order. There's in fact a current discussion about updating the guidance; what you are looking at is the status as of three days ago. So, Mohsen Mohammed Al-Daeri needs to be sorted as such: {{DEFAULTSORT:Daeri, Mohsen Mohammed}}. Can you please go back through your bios and either update the indexing, or define this for the first time (as it's still often missing)? Schwede66 01:49, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Awam King (talk) 03:42, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
people use Al with their surenames to refer to the family or tribe they belong to and to distinguish it from a common proper name. For example al-Bakri and Bakri, when we use the first "al-bakri" as a last name it means the family or tribe they belong to. When we use Bakri as a surename it may be confusing as it can refer to a proper name (can be father/grandfather) or a tribe/family. But in most cases we can use surenames without al. Categories

To maintain categories, I suggest you turn on HotCat in your preferences. Wikipedia:HotCat explains what you need to do. It's much better to use HotCat than to do these things manually as it shows you while editing whether you have the category name right. If you do want to do this manually, please note that the stub tag goes last, preceded by two empty lines. Schwede66 23:30, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

ok, got it, thanks. Will use it. Awam King (talk) 23:39, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Two new articles

Today i created two new articles; Basindawa Cabinet and Bahah Cabinet.

I have also fixed old articles I created. Fixed ( DEFAULTSORT), (Dateformat), (dash), (short description)... Awam King (talk) 03:10, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Great! I've reviewed Basindawa Cabinet and I suggest you make the equivalent edits to the other one. Schwede66 04:49, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Much improved! Not consistent enough for autopatrolled, in case that's the background to your question. I pinged you from a DYK nomination page the other day; have you had a chance to look at that yet? Schwede66 02:54, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
Nope, I don't mean that. Not care anymore about autopatrolled.
Helping to improve Yemen related articles and information as much as possible is what i really care. What i mean by question is that i have created many articles on Yemeni governments.

Regarding some sources

As you pointed out at my DYK nomination, there are now two Shura Councils. Could you point me towards any sources for the Sana'a/Houthi one? If you can't, no problem, but if you can I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Duonaut (talk | contribs) 22:44, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
