Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Appalachianjournal", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is that of an organisation not that of an individual. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Fiddle Faddle 09:54, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Request reason:

Sorry for my failure to understand username rules. I am an individual acting alone and would like to revise my name to reflect that. Thank you! Appalachianjournal (talk) 18:27, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your responses to concerns below. Congratulations! You are unblocked.

Before you do anything else on Wikipedia, please go to WP:CHU/Simple to request a change of your username. After the change, carry on, and happy editing. ~Amatulić (talk) 23:59, 30 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

That name would be OK. But consider ...

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 00:53, 14 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

To Daniel Case: Yes, I understand these policies. Like I said, I am an individual not associated with the organization in my original name.

To Daniel Case and Alexf, 9/22/14, is there anything else I need to do, or is it just a matter of waiting for the name change and unblock? I cannot ask that question anywhere else except on my own page, due to the block... Thank you.

No, I don't believe you fully understand those policies and guidelines linked above, particularly Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. So I have one more question: What is your association with the subject of Draft:Tom Davenport? Note that when you created an account, you agreed to abide by the terms of service that require you to disclose any conflict of interest that you may have. ~Amatulić (talk) 21:48, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Please keep things cordial, Amatulić. This is a case of misunderstanding, for which I have apologized. And I am happy to explain my interest in Tom Davenport! I am from the Appalachian region and am greatly appreciative of any and all artists (be they novelists, poets, filmmakers, playwrights, etc), that strive to depict Appalachia in a way that is truthful to the region, and does not further problematic stereotypes. My "motive" in writing about Tom Davenport is not a personal relationship (never met the guy!), but rather an appreciation for his work. The article itself should attest to the fact that I'm not biased in this regard, as it is a highly fact-based, not at all slanted representation of his work, with all the proper sources. It was going through a (hopefully) final round of editing many weeks ago until my username became an issue. Again, I apologize for my misunderstanding of name rules. I had no idea this would be such a huge deal, or else obviously I would not have chosen the name in the first place. I should have looked into it. I would still like to change the name to what I requested above, and continue with the submission. But, again, it was to further positive depictions of where I'm from, so if it is going to be turn into a huge investigation of sorts, I'll just chalk it up to time wasted and leave it at that. Thanks to Daniel Case and Alexf for the patient explanations.
