Carlos Espinola

edit

While Espinola has played for Paraguay, his sporting nationality is officially Ecuadorian. He is registered by the Ecuadorian FA as an Ecuadorian and also with CONMEBOL as an Ecuadorian. In addition, the Ecuadorian FA is only allowed four foreign players in a club's squad. Bieler, Araujo, Vera, and Graf are those four for Liga. That makes Espinola an Ecuadorian. Digirami (talk) 23:58, 4 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Sporting Nationality is Paraguayan. The Ecuadorian Nationality is only for internal purposes (as you explained, in Ecuador are permitted only 4 foreigners in each team). This is the case in Europe, in many leagues (Italy, Spain etc.), so Southamerican Players acquires some EU nationality, for not being considered foreigners. But their sporting Nationality remains that of the country they played for. Andrei.besutiu (talk) 14:42, 5 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's not the same. Since Espinola has adopted a new nationality, it has become his primary (including sporting). Even CONMEBOL has him listed as an Ecuadorian. For all official purposes, Espinola is Ecuadorian because that is his current sporting nationality. To indicate otherwise on this would be false and inaccurate. Digirami (talk) 15:55, 5 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

It is the very same. You would be right only if Espínola hasn't ever played for Paraguay. The question is very simple. Is Espínola eligible to play for the Ecuadorian National Team? The main condition to play in a national team is to have the nationality of that team. Or, Espínola is NOT eligible to play for Ecuador. He can only play for Paraguay. Conclusion: he is a Paraguayan football player who, also, has Ecuadorian citizenship so that cannot be considered a foreigner when he plays in Ecuador. Any other answer is false and inaccurate. Andrei.besutiu (talk) 23:23, 5 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, it is not the same. One can play for a national team and then change nationalities in a way that would make you ineligible to play for that national team again. Espinola's primary sporting nationality is Ecuadorian because he is registered as such by Ecuador and CONMEBOL. In official squad lists, he is Ecuadorian. It is not the same as in Europe where an EU passport is used to clear a loophole while still maintaining another nationality. In Ecuador, what nationality you are registered is your primary sporting nationality. Digirami (talk) 15:08, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Carlos Espinola will be never eligible to play for Ecuador National football team, as he has already played for Paraguay. As Wikipedia guidelines specify, the flag near the player's name represent his eligibility under FIFA rules. So, this MUST be Paraguay's flag. Remember, this is Wikipedia, not some Ecuadorian FA website.

Names

edit

Are you sure writing just the name or last name of a player is ok (in 2011 FIVB Women's Club World Championship? No, I mean, I don't know why are you doing this? Wikipedia is read by so many different people, not everyone would realize what Gozde means (the turkish player), because she have a complete name, but you have changed tha squad article as well as the awards to show just "something". I have worked in so many articles, and have seen so many others, neither of them we have use just "something". I am changing back the award section. Oscar 01:12, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi there,

As you may know, the Turkish players, as well as the Brazilians, they use a "stage name", who usually is their first name. They are known like that and they have this name on their shirts.
