Compare d’anello edit

Hi, I need your help with an Italian-English translation. How would you translate "compare d’anello" in English, as in "Domenico Tripodo fu compare d’anello di Totò Riina"? I hope you have the answer. Thanks. - Mafia Expert (talk) 03:08, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for all the time you spent on this. I had no idea it was a kind of very local tradition. I guess, for the purpose of the article, it would best translate as "a kind of best man and trusted friend". Anyway, I really appreciate your efforts. - Mafia Expert (talk) 11:58, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Renato Vallanzasca edit

Hi Analytikone, i have just finished translating the article from the Italian Wikipedia, using Google translate and Yahoo translate. However, these translating devices are not perfect, and i'm sure that i have made plenty of mistakes during translation. Could you please compare this article with the Italian version and correct any errors that i have made. I would greatly appreciate it. Regards, Joyson Noel (talk) 11:47, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Translation again edit

Hi Analytikone, I need your help with a translation again.
I translated "Lui cercava sempre di 'aggiustare' le cose e di ricondurre gli uomini alla ragione, cioè al modo in cui aveva deciso che gli uomini e le cose dovessero andare. Se poi qualcuno s' intestardiva... con un gesto, un assenso, lasciava che i suoi amici si occupassero della questione. Ogni tanto interrompeva: 'Ma chi glielo ha fatto fare?' , 'Chissà quale fine farà' ".
In: "He always tried to 'accommodate' matters and bring people to reason, that is to say, in the way he had decided how people and things should be. If someone remained headstrong nonetheless… with a gesture, a nod, he left it to his friends to take care of the problem. Every now and then he intervened: 'But who made you do this?', 'Who knows how this will end'."
But I am not quite sure, in particular about the last sentence. Would you have a look at it? Thanks. - Mafia Expert (talk) 23:29, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help. I think I keep "'accommodate' matters" in stead of "to sort things out". The latter is a bit too casual, while it needs something more strong. It is sometimes difficult to translate underlying meanings from one language to another, but you made thing a lot more clear. By the way, the text will serve a future update of Calogero Vizzini. Thanks again, you are a great help. - Mafia Expert (talk) 08:41, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
