A bit more info on his notability? What has he done that's encyclopedic? I can't tell if he meets [[WO:BIO}}. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 23:24, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of The Aluredian

edit

A tag has been placed on The Aluredian, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Whispering 13:25, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hallo, everybody! Tex, are you there? So far we've got various media people, legislators, and sportspeople. Roughly how many do we need to establish notability?Aluredian 23:00, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hallo, Tex. Checked your page, no explanation for your more than somewhat Davrosian approach to us OAs. Hmm ... is this a matter of principle, perhaps? Think I'll leave it for a bit. Aluredian 21:23, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hallo, Dlohers! Any idea why Tex keeps zapping us Old Aluredians? My plan had been to add to the list, but Tex seems to have decided to adopt the Dalek approach. Best leave it for a bit, perhaps. Ho, hum. Aluredian 21:25, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you could let me know of which articles you speak. . . . Most likely, it would be that the subject(s) do(es) not meet WP:BIO. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 22:09, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ah, good ... Yes, it's 'Old Aluredians'. I've checked the reference you gave me, held it everyway up and shaken it, and no elucidation has dropped out. I'm afraid I genuinely can't see how Old ALuredians doesn't match WP:BIO. Old Tex doesn't explain himself, and as every addition to the list triggers the same response I must conclude his dander's up by now. Pity. Still, can't be helped. Hallo? Anybody there? Yes ... the beginning of the article on Professor Martin Lynn, a renowned scholar of West African history, with a reference to his obituary in 'The Times', has been zapped. No explanation. If the mystery zapper reads this, could he or she leave a note explaining clearly what criteria would, in his/her opinion, establish notability. Thanks. An obit in The Times establishes a good likelihood of notability, but is not an assurance. The best way to get it done with the least likelihood of deletion is to first get it presentable in one go by doing work in your user space such as create the article here where you can add, place references, wordsmith, etc. until it's ready for its debut in main space (when you would just move it there or cut and paste it there). Please read WP:N, WP:BIO, and WP:RS to see what sort of coverage is expected in reliable sources to establish notability: an unpaid substantial obit in the Times (more than just a paragraph) is one source just find more.
