Kielikone

Can you please tell me why "Kielikone Ltd. is the market leader of digital dictionaries in Finland " is not an indication of importance, enough to pass Speedy A7? Whether it will pass AfD or not is unclear to me, but if sources can be found, I think it just might. Could you please restore it and optionally send it there. (I know I have the ability to do so myself, but I want to ask you first) DGG ( talk ) 00:46, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Is it? The article had no references whatsoever, nor the OP or anybody put a hangon tag and explained. I'll be happy to userfy it if you want. If you want to restore it, be my guest, I would not contest it. -- Alexf(talk) 01:18, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Pablo Aimar

Hello.

I just would like to say that I didn't change ANYTHING in Pablo Aimar's page - actually, I never visited it before - so, I really don't understand the message sent to me saying I did it and it was considered vandalism.

I assume it was some IPs confusion.

Thank you.

Pedro. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.180.97.253 (talk) 03:16, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

No confusion. If you did not do it then it was someone else using the same IP. The message was not sent to you but to the IP. To avoid this problem you could always create an account. In the future please follow procedure and start a new section by creating a section title and sign your posts. -- Alexf(talk) 03:21, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

List of Laugh at Me episodes

Hi there. You deleted this on Christmas Eve, and it's now reappeared. I'd be happy to delete it as a recreate, but I can't find the original discussion. Could you have a look at it, and delete/PROD etc. GedUK  10:59, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Can't find it either. I see someone has started a PROD. Strange. Look at the OP's page. -- Alexf(talk) 12:09, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Ugh, that's a page template magnet. I'll let the PROD run, and keep an eye on their contributions. Ta. GedUK  12:38, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
"Template magnet". An apt description. Haven't heard that one before. LOL. -- Alexf(talk) 12:46, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Heh, I just made that up! Anyway, problem solved, it was CSDed with the proper link. See User_talk:Decltype#List_of_Laugh_at_Me_episodes. GedUK  14:20, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I see at AfD now. Thanks. -- Alexf(talk) 14:27, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Dukesherer

Greetings,

Happy New Year; and I hope this post finds you, and find you well.

My page, David Dukesherer (Dukesherer) was deleted.

I am writer, and my first 2 books are being published tomorrow. I do noy write for money; I donate 100% of the proceeds from these books, and everything else I write.

The first book, Beach of the King was also, and is also, an Exibition for the Los Angeles Public Library.

I would appreciate it if you would consider un-deleting the page.

With thanks,

D Dukesherer

This volume combines information from my personal writing, photos and vintage postcards, and from many other resources. Much of the information has been drawn from my monthly newspaper column, contained in The Westchester Hometown News, Los Angeles, CA, Robin Zacha, Publisher, in issues published between 2002 and 2009, and examiner.com; an online newspaper that I write for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Daviddukesherer (talkcontribs) 13:06, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Econt article deletion

Hi Alexf, I started an article on Econt but unfortunately I had to step out for a couple of hours and didn't have time to finish it in any meaningful form. I have relevant information to add that in my opinion might be interesting (of course, I cannot be the judge of that). Would it be possible to restore the article, so I can finish it? Apologies about all the trouble I am putting you through with this article. I would really appreciate it if I have a chance to finish what I started. Ddemirov (talk) 19:08, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

The article was empty. No text at all, just a small infobox. I suggest if you think the article would have enough notability to work it off-line or in a subpage until ready. Posting an empty article will get it removed soon as you saw. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 19:33, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of page titled "Kate Graham"

Hi Alex,

I want to humbly request the undeletion of the "Kate Graham" page. I believe Kate Graham fits under the criteria stated for Creative Professionals, most specifically #3, as she was the female lead in a feature-length film. This film has been reviewed by the New York Times, Guardian, Philadelphia Daily News, and the DVD is currently for sale at Amazon. I'd like to sum up my statements in a format near and dear to - apparently - both our hearts.

Kate Graham's on-screen works Comply with requirements Please restore the page

Jason.n.graham (talk) 18:30, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Can't userfy as I see you already have the same text under User:Jason.n.graham/Kate Graham. Please note that you have to add the references you posted and note that IMDB is not a reliable source. Also please read and be aware of conflicts of interest issues. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 19:38, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Done and done - at least in terms of fixing the text under User:Jason.n.graham/Kate Graham. I understand the potential conflict of interest issue but I wouldn't have posted it if I didn't think she fit the qualifications. Thanks for all your feedback. 204.124.92.254 (talk) 15:12, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of Side Effect (band) page

Hey Alexf,

Just wondering if I could just be sent the text from the main summary and the "Beginnings and First Lineup, "Second Lineup," and "Current Lineup" sections of the page. The reason I am requesting these are just for the fact that I never backed up what I wrote onto Microsoft Word and would just like to use the text for future use for my site and our MySpace page.

I would really appreciate it greatly if you could do this for me. Message me back or reply at your earliest convenience.

Deletion of Sugar Boilers Association

This small trade union was list because we are trying to get a totally comprehensive list of trade unions, past and present, in Trinidad and Tobago. A lot of entries are very brief because there is not a lot of information but they are all listed in List of trade unions which is part of a gradually growing comprehensive list of unions throughout the world. To arbitrarily delete one union from this list doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. If the entry was too brief, then a lost of the work put into drawing up this world list would also have to go. this union, small as it was, was part of the sugar industry which was the dominant part of the Trinidad economy for decades and is part of our histroy. What can I do to get it back? Dave Smith (talk) 01:50, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

My page was deleted

Hello. I was wondering why my page on Wikipedia was deleted. It is about a real person, Sarah Addison, who is a growing artist. I included her bio with recent projects, ways she could reach fans, and some personal quotes from her. I do not understand why my page on her was deleted... and thought I carried some valuable (yet not personal) information. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sarah_Addison&action=edit&redlink=1 That is the red link. If you still pursue in deleting my page; could you please send me the complete article... so I have it for future.

I think you have a confusion on what Wikipedia is. We are an encyclopedia, not a social network or advertising medium. I am also unsure on why you are wondering about why it was deleted when it was explained to you in detail in your Talk Page. -- Alexf(talk) 22:49, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Willy Clafin

Hi Alex!

You deleted my article.

Thanks for providing this means for appealing the deletion. While I enjoy contributing to Wikipedia, I do find that too often articles are deleted instead of tagged for improvement...maybe this will change in the future.

The article that was marked for speedy deletion and that you removed is about a well-known storyteller and author named Willy Clafin.

His biography at the link below probably provides the best outside source of his work, including books/recordings/awards, which I would think justify his notability: http://www.augusthouse.com/index.cfm?md=Content&sd=AuthorsAndArtists&MainPage=Bios&PageName=WillyClaflin

I am humbling requesting that you reinstate the page.

Thanks

Alancookie (talk) 07:26, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Alan, would it be so hard to please follow directions and provide a redlink as requested at the top of the edit page? While you are at it, it is common courtesy, and proper procedure, to start a new section for a new item, instead of just tagging along after whatever came before. The bit about providing redlinks is important as the onus is on you on doing the research. I had to find the name of the article, and search for it in the deletion logs. This was done back on 31 December which may not sound too long ago to you, but it is over 400 deletions away from today!
As for the request, the article had only one sentence and had no sources whatsoever so it was barely a stub and was properly deleted. If you have verifiable independent reliable sources and think the subject is notable by all means try again. -- Alexf(talk) 17:39, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Sunee Plaza vandalsim

I'm sorry to be thick, but I don't understand how you warn someone on an IP address that is constantly changing. I want to issue warnings regarding the article Sunee Plaza and thought by putting them on the talk page and noting them on the history this would suffice. I'd appreciate some more specific help here please. Thanks GoScoutUK (talk) 19:53, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately that's not how it works. Yes, many/most IP address change. Yes, you cannot be sure the next editor is the same one in an IP address, but if you warn them at the moment they are vandalizing, they will read it. If you see a pattern from the same IP address or range, doing the same types of vandalism to the same page(s) you know they are the same people. We cannot act in AIV until they have at least a level 3 or level 4 warning, as per the warning templates page I pointed you to. If one page gets too much IP vandalism in a given day, you can report it to Requests for page protection and it can be taken care of. This is different than blocking users through reporting them to AIV. Unless you warn them sufficiently you are tying our hands. Hope this makes it more clear. Vandals don't usually read the history summaries so unfortunately your method doesn't work. -- Alexf(talk) 20:53, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Again

Same with Law (principle). This could be avoided in the future if you both deleted and performed the move (I think there's a link in the CSD template to do both). --Cybercobra (talk) 04:07, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Principle (disambiguation). I see your point but a) I hate to do moves so I seldom, if ever do them and b) when I'm doing CSD work I have several potential candidates open in Firefox tabs; study each one in another tab to see if they meet the criteria (e.g. A7, G12) and switching my mind (or what's left of it) to "move mode" with it's own issues, is not what I'd enjoy. Just write them down (grin). -- Alexf(talk) 11:48, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism

You might know something about this edit, since it seems unlikely a new user would go to a random RfA and vandalize it. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 02:23, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Didn't know as I did not have the page watched. I do now. The editor is unhappy because I speedy deleted one article. Some people have a funny idea that vandalism is a better response than civilized discussion. Some day they'll realize it doesn't get them anywhere. -- Alexf(talk) 10:50, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Comment

Alexf

I have no idea who you are and what your role is, however the information I posted is a matter of fact and one that is under investigation by the miami police. Miami police have procecuted operators for the conduct outlined in my addition and are in the process of making further action

As such the detail is verifiable fact and should remain publicly available

thank you

RR —Preceding unsigned comment added by Roger Rogerson (talkcontribs) 01:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

RR, I have no idea what you are talking about. You are supposed to start a new section with a title, not tag along after whatever the unrelated previous discussion was. You are supposed to put a link to the edit (preferably) or article you are referring to. You are also supposed to sign your posts by adding four tildes. -- Alexf(talk) 08:31, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Doing some search, the same one you should have done, I see you are referring to a reversal of an edit you made to South Beach. One of the fundamental Wikipedia principles is keeping a neutral point of view. Your comment was derogatory to a particular company, and as you did not provide any citation or reliable source for your comment, it is therefore just opinion, and unacceptable in Wikipedia. Furthermore, the article is about a section of Miami Beach not about a particular company you may have a problem with. -- Alexf(talk) 08:31, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Twin Falls (Band)

Hi,

That was a really speedy deletion considering there was a hangon tag on this page and I was currently in conversations with IShadowed(talk) on which press articles to include as significant reference. Can you please send me my article that was deleted so I can continue to add to it until it's deemed as notable, and I'll continue to deal with IShadowed on editing the article (which just needs an example of international press) rather than you, as reading your comments above you seem to just be really short with people and not actually want to get anywhere in adding legitimate articles - just deleting stuff. Thanks Bberkman (talk) 12:57, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

The article has been userfied to User:Bberkman/Twin Falls (band). There was a hangon tag but there was no comments on the article's Talk Page on why it should stay. You are supposed to explain your reasoning and show why the CSD should not apply. This was not done and the article did not show notability. Good luck. -- Alexf(talk) 13:06, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Requesting my post restored

Hi, Regarding the deletion of page CelebrityStyleGuide;

I read your requirements and I still feel that this page has met your standards. It is notable, has been mentioned/written about in other publications, the page was factual, not promotional. If upon your review, you still feel that it is not Wikipedia-worthy please let us know why so that we can possible comply further.

Thank You For Your Time and Consideration, CSGer (talk) 21:59, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately the article did not assert notability. At the moment, as there are no special rules for magazines, they are covered under the notability rules for books. Specifically the line there that says: "...has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works appearing in sources that are independent of the (magazine) itself...". This means it needs independent, verifiable, reliable sources to show notability, which has not been done in the two instances for which the article was removed. I am not saying it isn't notable, just that an editor tagged it for speedy deletion as non-notable and I had to agree as I did not see anything to show it convincingly. Please note also that there seems to be a conflict of interest in this case. If you are the publisher of the magazine, then you are not the people that should write about it. If the magazine is notable, somebody else will write a good article. Writing about your own product makes it difficult to write with a neutral point of view and generally looks like advertising. -- Alexf(talk) 01:21, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Disruptive editor

Alexf:

I am adding nothing controversial, simply reverting senseless deletions being imposed by one user who's intent on erasing ALL Italian-Argentine categories. I've contated him, as well as Marek69, who's keeping an eye on him – since he knows I've flagged down disruptive edtiors in the past.

No one seriously disputes the Italian heritage of the subjects involved, nor does that useless idiot (not my words, see talk page, at top). He does this to different editors and categories of users, flying below the radar, but all the while pettifogging articles on minor points no one disputes just to irritate. As you know, most bio articles with an ethnic category don't include a source, but common sense is normally applied to such cases. If someone's last name is Carbonari, di Sarli, Frondizi, Lavezza, or Zanetti, and they're from Argentina – where half the population is of primarily Italian descent – its reasonable to categorize the subject as Argentines of Italian descent. If someone has reason to believe otherwise, they should produce a reference accordingly and obtain CONSENSUS as to why a last name that, upon Googling, can have its background confirmed, is not in its right category.

Otherwise its just manic second-guessing in order to irritate others. There are a good many sadists on Wikipedia, or ask Marek69, who was being ambushed by the "Ecuadorian Stalker" (a disruptive user who was ultimately banned).

Thanks for your time, Sherlock4000 (talk) 13:10, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

I understand your point and agree that in many cases it is obvious but maybe not in all. What I saw is an IP Address fast and furiously reverting a user all over the place. That's edit warring and we can't have that. -- Alexf(talk) 14:52, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Alex:
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, and you're right, a few of the over 300 bios so categorized had room for doubt (though very little). Accordingly, I left a few out, until some other editor can find a citation for it, if needed. The list is, as of the last correction, 284 bios long, and covers a very good swath of figures in the arts, sciences, politics, etcetera, so it's fair and I'm fine with it.
Of course, I could've created a couple of new articles with the hours I've wasted on defending something so obvious (as you pointed out). I doubt the user will stop, and, again, check his talk page: you'd have a multitude of editors applaud, if someone could only block this individual.
Thanks again for looking into this.
Cordially, Sherlock4000 (talk) 17:21, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Edit War

I'm just removing unsupported categories. Names might seem Italian, and yes, be Italian, but that doesn't make the person have Italian background. I thought wikipedia was a fact based website, not some opinionative site based on assumptions. As far as the edit war goes, i will try to not be involved. I did talk to Sherlock and his theory on using a google query to find out if someone has Italian heritage just backs my motives of removing unsourced text. Hubschrauber729 (talk) 19:03, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Alex:
This is the same type who insisted on categorizing Michael Klukowski as Austrian without proof, and with no consensus from others interested in the artcile (who overrid him). They weren't the only ones: look at his talk page, and you'll find he was bothering Turkish users with their bios, as well.
Consensus, by the way, is what he needs if he intends to delete categories that have been attached to these article for years, and which no one ever disputed (nor would they, they are as Italian by blood as Hunschrauber is a pest just here to disrupt Wikipedia).
I caught the Ecuadorian Stalker a few months ago, and I had little support...until he started attacking articles maintained by others, and now, a range of IPs connencted him are banned from this service, just as this character needs to be. As I said, whoever took the initiative and blocked Hubschrauber, would have nothing but friends for years.

deleted page - need to restore please

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Cooney

red link (i think) = http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tim_Cooney&action=edit&redlink=1

Hello, I am not very good with Haiku, so I hope you will forgive me for not going that route.

I added the page for Tim Cooney at the request of Tim Cooney directly. It was deleted for IMDB copyright infringement, however the article that was posted was written by Mr. Cooney himself and was in no way copied in whole or in part from the IMDB. As Mr. Cooney does work in the film business, his info that is on the IMDB is mostly accurate, but is not under copyright of any kind as it is a list of his workings. The info that I put in the article that was on the wiki page here was 100% written by Mr. Cooney himself. We would like to request that the page be restored please. If you would like to speak with Mr. Cooney directly about this, I would be more than happy to put you in dircet contact with him so that this may be resolved.

Thank you. Lance —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mindbinge (talkcontribs) 09:22, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello Lance. I re-read the page in question. The article had some major issues. Besides the G12 copyvio issue, it would have been nominated for speedy deletion as G11 as it was written as advertising. Even if that issue was not there, then it would have been removed under A7 as it did not assert notability as it did not have any reliable sources. Lastly you are admitting it was written by the subject himself which is strongly discouraged in Wikipedia. Lastly, by you posting t his request, you are also admitting having a conflict of interest. Seems to me, pardon me for pointing this out as it is nothing personal, you see, but you both may not have an understanding on what Wikipedia is and what Wikipedia is not (specifically not a social network, blog or Facebook Hope this clears it. Also, please remember to sign your posts by posting four tildes at the end. Thank you for your attention. -- Alexf(talk) 13:16, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of EEG topography

Perhaps you didn't notice that I am the author of the article in Brain & Mind Magazine which was "copied" into Wikipedia's article. Of course I gave (implicit) permission. Please restore the article and I will put the explicit permission if it is not there already. R.Sabbatini (talk) 04:18, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

I understand what you mean, but implicit permission does not work and Wikipeia takes copyrights seriously. The home page of the website (Cerébro y Mente) specifically says the work is copyrighted. Please read the following pages that may be of help in this case, so you understand more about Wikipedia: Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials and Conflicts of Interest. -- Alexf(talk) 12:59, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Insufficient warnings on Santa's Mom

My understanding was that speedy notices basically counted as warnings, and enough of them for sufficiently bad pages constituted sufficient cause for a block. Am I incorrect? Should I be explicitly warning egregious offenders? —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 18:28, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

For the record, the one page I speedied was an attack page, if a childish one, and I suspect the others were of similar caliber. I wouldn't WP:AIV someone for too many non-notable articles (better avenues for that), but for page creation that constitutes vandalism, I thought it was appropriate. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 18:29, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
They need to have at least a Level 3 or Level 4 (one that says they will be blocked if they persist). For example using: {{subst:uw-create3}}
Just warned them. -- Alexf(talk) 18:33, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Not to be too pedantic, but my last speedy notice (for personal attacks) does include "you will be blocked" language. That said, the previous warnings did not (even though I suspect they should have), and I'm perfectly fine with a final warning. Thanks for the explanation. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 18:46, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Lisa Stelly

Hi Alexf, A while back, I made a page for Lisa Stelly. I don't blame whoever did, but it was deleted, due to lack of information. I am recreating the page and am still gathering information, so just as a note; the article might look stubby, but that means I am still gathering info. Just wondering, do you know where I could, perhaps, work on an article until it is finished, without publishing it? Also, I am getting some of the information from official web sites, and some from direct contact with the actress.
