My RfA edit

Announcement: It's an administrator!

Ageo020, thanks for your support on my request for adminship.

The final outcome was a robust 62/1/1, so I am now an administrator. If you ever have any questions about my actions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks again, Chris Griswold

Thank you edit

My administratorship candidacy succeeded with a final tally of 81/0/1. I appreciate your support. Results are at Wikipedia:Recently_created_admins#Durova. Warmly, Durova 14:38, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

RfA for MCB edit

Hey, I saw you went neutral on MCB's RfA, and I just wanted to know why you said "Weak support really". Just curious, but it just seemed contradictory to me. Nishkid64 00:49, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay, just wanted to know. Nishkid64 00:54, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
He responded to your comments. P.S. He makes a lot of food references lol...(He's in WikiProject Food). I also would like to point out that the same thing happened to me in late August-early September, in the weeks before my own RfA. I was AfD-crazy for a month or so before I calmed down and started looking toward other things on Wikipedia. Nishkid64 01:18, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

String theorists edit

Hi, I saw you created Category:String theory physicists. While this is a very useful category, it would be more appropriately named Category:String theorists to reflect general usage. Is there any easy way to fix this? –Joke 14:47, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is no way to move category pages since you can't make changes to the pages under the category without physically editing them. However, I made the new category, and I moved all 41 articles from Category:String theory physicists to Category:String theorists. Nishkid64 21:48, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! edit

Hello Ageo! Thank you so much for the truely flattering nomination on my RfA. I am humbled and honoured by your confidence in me, and hope to live up to it. I'm still exploring the new tools, so feel free to tell me of any mistakes I might make in the process. In case you need help with anything, just leave me a message. My RFA! edit

Ageo020, thank you so much for your support for my RfA. I passed with a vote tally of 61/0/1. I am honored that the consensus was to allow me the added privilege of the admin mop. I appreciate your support on my RFA! --plange 23:09, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Supporting at RFA edit

When I am convinced that the user will not misuse admin tools or snob at others (many admins do the latter !!!) I vote "support". If there are any special reasons (like a good history of vandal fighting, significant contributions, good at mediating disputes) I mention that.

I feel that "Support" is same as "Support.. unlikely to misuse tools", "Good User", "Was expecting for this", "Whole hearted support", etc which conveys no meaning other than being used as a sort of Signature of the User. Hence I decided to stick to the Simple "Support" (a sort of "Style") I have given the specific reasons in the past in a lot of RFAs when there were reasons. Any way, I take your suggestion and will try to give a brief reason for support in future.

By the way, in my opinion, most of the support (or oppose votes) in a Rfa (as well as AFD) is polled not because the user themselves support of oppose the candidate, but because few of their friends have voted like that ahead of them. Hope you know what happened in the Ambuj Saxena RFA !!!!!  Doctor Bruno  00:18, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you edit

I've finally had the time during my long Wikibreak to thank the voters and commentors on my my RfA last month, and I thank you! I'll try again as previously planned in the late of spring, and hopefully I'll win it. When I get off this multi-month Wikibreak I'll be back to the Wikipedia, visting xfD everyday in addition. A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin edit

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka edit

Thank you for expressing an interest in my recent RfA. As a followup, I wanted to let you know that unfortunately consensus was not reached, and the nomination was not successful. However, I do appreciate that you took the time to monitor the discussion, and I paid close attention to your thoughts, as I find it a valuable thing to understand how I am perceived by others in the Wikipedia community. My current plans are to continue contributing in a positive manner to Wikipedia, and if there is anything that I can do in the future to help further address your concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, thank you. --Elonka 10:25, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

My RfA (reprise) edit

Well, it's been a week now that I've been an administrator and I'd like to take this moment to once again thank everyone who supported my RfA, and to let you all know that I don't think I've screwed anything up yet so I hope I'm living up to everyone's expectations for me. But if I ever fall short of those expectations, I'd certainly welcome folks telling me about it!

Sockpuppets edit

Maashe, you must be interested to see this. Tintin (talk) 02:01, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The sum of her contributions is certainly positive. Though those were mostly stubs, she did start entries for some important people.
But the edits have a certain pattern that a typical sockpuppet would follow - first create a lead-puppet which will do most of the editing, plus seven or eight others who do just enough edits to be able to vote in Afds. The main sock created a few stubs, talked with a few people. Then after a month, it started voting in RfA (always voting support) and a few Afds. Then it started out handing out barnstars. Then when the time seemed right, one of the minor socks recreated the article. Tintin (talk) 04:18, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
On second thoughts, I am not sure whether I should be happy about this ban. We would have got a few more stubs/articles without it. Tintin (talk) 04:23, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Socks give me a headache. These catroonist guys were clever ones, too. Btw, Ageo, you can speedy using {{csd-g4}} articles that are recreated after an XFD and contain near similar content.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 14:23, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yesudasan and Gireesh Puthenchery are certainly notable. I haven't heard of Shetty and seem to to vaguely familiar with the name of Madhu Omalloor. But it could simply because of my ignorance on the topic.
Sanalkumar etc have written in that magazine but the chances are that this guy created ids in their name and wrote the comments himself. Please see the comments at the end of http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Dlyons493&oldid=69598231 by User:P.C.Sanalkumar.I.A.S. November Esperanza Newsletter edit

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Hi and thanks edit

Hi Ageo, despite being Indians we never really had a chance to interact with each other prior to this. I guess my RFA has really given me a great chance to get others' views among which yours are very flattering. Thanks a lot!! Regarding LostBot, I am selecting articles through the categories. So for example, the bot is marking articles under Category:India as just {{WP India}} but those under Category:India stubs as stubs. Hope this clarifies. Do let me know if you have any further questions. -- Lost(talk) 17:58, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Shiny new buttons edit

Two weeks ago I couldn't even spell administratur and now I are one (in no small part thanks to your support). Now that I checked out those new buttons I realize that I can unleash mutant monsters on unsuspecting articles or summon batteries of laser guns in their defense. The move button has now acquired special powers, and there's even a feature to roll back time. With such awesome new powers at my fingertips I will try to tread lightly to avoid causing irreversible damage and getting into any wheel wars. Thanks again and let me know whenever I can be of use.

Thank you for the Support

I'd like to express my huge thanks to you, Ageo020, for your support in my recent RfA, which closed with 100% support at 71/0/1. Needless to say, I am very suprised at the huge levels of support I've seen on my RfA, and at the fact that I only had give three answers, unlike many other nominees who have had many, many more questions! I'll be careful with my use of the tools, and invite you to tell me off if I do something wrong! Thanks, Martinp23 14:49, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
