Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism
editHay, it would be real helpful if you put a note in your edit summary letting us know if the list is or isn't empty when you edit the page. It helps us folks who have the page watchlisted. Thanks, ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 06:39, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Politeness
editBegins with a talk page. Next time use it. - brenneman 07:14, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I apologize for not discussing this on a talk page first. I was going to after I made my edits, but had to take care of something in real life for a minute. However, I don't understand why you deleted the fictionPress article. Academic Challenger 07:17, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Just as the deletion log said: 06:48, 5 February 2007 Aaron Brenneman (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "FictionPress" (it is an article about a person, group of people, band, club, company or website that does not assert the importance or significance of the subject. I've put {{tempundelete}} on this and raised it at deletion review. Which is what you should have done, if you didn't want to talk to me about it. Don't just undo first and talk later, please. - brenneman 07:21, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
There is no way that this should have been deleted under that criteria. It is one of the most notable literature websites with hundreds of thousands of original stories, poems, etc. Academic Challenger 07:23, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm still stinging from being reverted like a vandal and having my actions undone without notice... but aside from that, and notwithstanding the endorsements at DRV, I give "unusual deletion" to be taken as read. I'm just not liking the idea of restoring something with no citations from reliable sources. If you did up the references and paste them <here|my talk|drv>, I'll restore the article and add them in myself, how does that sound? - brenneman 05:43, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Block not sticking
editaccording to his log "01:34, 6 February 2007 Academic Challenger (Talk | contribs) blocked "65.93.174.235 (contribs)" (anon. only, account creation blocked, autoblock enabled) with an expiry time of 48 hours (vandalism)" yet he vandaled his own userpage removing the warnings etc. Just a few hours later. Might want to check if the block was misentered for a shorter time possibly? Thanks for your time. --Xiahou 04:10, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- Blocked editors can still edit their userpages... it's a feature, not a bug. - brenneman 05:40, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Awkward Turtle protected?
editI've never created an article or done substantial changes to articles before, but it seems that Awkward Turtle has gained a degree of popularity among teenagers and now would deserve an article, similar to the one about blowing a raspberry. Could you tell me why it is protected?

User:KazakhPol unblock
editHi, I just saw you unblocked KazakhPol. I'm a bit surprised you did that without consultation, especially since there had been both a previous comment of my own upholding the block ([1]) and a previous unblock-decline by Yamla with pretty much the same argumentation ([2]). KazakhPol had illegitimately removed that decline notice when renewing his request ([3]) - a fact I myself have noticed only now.
It's not that I'm inclined to make a big fuss over this now or insist on a re-blocking, but I'd just like to remind you I think it's better style to consult with the previously responsible admins in such a case. Cheers, Fut.Perf. ☼ 23:50, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

editI noticed you had s-protected this article in the past. Now more than ever, and even before it was featured is experiencing a huge amount of vandalism. Would you be able to s-protect it again for an even longer extension? Langara College 05:52, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Vandal not 'bad enough'?
editYou said on the Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism page about a vandal i reported "Harvey Carter is not a clear enough vandal to be listed on this page" in the last few days he has gotten his final warning and turns around and did what got him to that point and then some. Just because he isn't blantant doesn't mean it isn't deserving. Quite the contrary. Its the sneaky kind like this that do more damage that is harder to repair. Like the type that change little things. Page blankers and obscene comment makers are easy to spot and penalize, and a quick RV/undo takes care of it.
But someone who consistently puts POV, unsourced, uncited, weasle words creeping in like this makes it hard for editors who try to keep things NPOV and cited on here. Multiple times now he puts this stuff in and people ask for sources and remove it and he just waits and puts it back in. On this page and others. I warned him multiple times resulting in his final warning, But to say not clear enough? Do we let him do it a few more times with more 'final warnings'? I guess I will just continue to watch his and others like this and try to keep up wiki's policy of NPOV and verifiablity. Your the admin and I bow to your decision. Chances are it will come up again since it seems to follow an obvious pattern with him. Thanks for your time. --Xiahou 05:46, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

editActually, the user DID vandalize not only after their 1st "final" warning, but also after their 2nd final warning.

- Final warning #2 (00:05, 14 February 2007): diff
- User's vandalism after warning #2 (00:06, 14 February 2007): diff

I don't understand how you don't see "The best solution would be if Srijem with Zemun got annexed by Croatia" as vandalism, but that's your opinion. I hope you're right about the user ceasing his disruptive editing. Stop The Lies 01:40, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Stop_The_Lies
Attack?
editSorry, I never meant to attack any Serb (as some might have interpreted). Where did I attack Bosnians?
I looked through your talk page and it says nowhere that youre Croat. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CroDome (talk • contribs) 15:13, 14 February 2007 (UTC).
Thank you for deleting that Nahnerz junk
editI know the guy that made it. He's a massive spammer on the forum that he's at, and he's always using "NAHNERZ" as his word of choice, even after promising he'd stop. I don't understand why he thought that it'd stay here, tho.. Thanks again.
LKA56 04:31, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
Haha, he's not my friend. I've deleted many of his stupid posts on there because it'd be in the middle of a fanmade content thread and he'd be all "OMG NAHNERZ", he's really annoying (pointing out obvious) LKA56 04:36, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
...could probably be unprotected now. Seems the high level of vandalism was the result of it being featured on the main page on Feb 8. cheers, Bobanny 03:09, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Jews flourishing under Islam
editPlease delete the unencyclopedic "Jews flourishing under Islam." KazakhPol 01:14, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Why did you remove him from WP:AIV [4]? Lukas19 23:52, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
But he has already vandalised couple times before...Lukas19 05:33, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Now thats what I am talking about
editYou just blocked IP 203.222.141.146 for 3 months for being a serial vandal. Thank you. I just added a comment to another admins page asking why only a 16 hour(!) block for another serial vandal. they had 25 or so vandal only edits. Blocked once before for 3 hours (wow that will do a whole lot) and they start right away again and get a whole 16 hours. Its admins that do more than give them a subtle tickle but a sharp slap on the wrist like yourself that teach them a lesson. Thanks. --Xiahou 03:03, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
IP keeps blanking talk page. Can you semi-protect it? --Captain Wikify Argh! 22:40, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
68.162.247.229
editThis user has screwed up media pages under different IPs before, all licensed to Verizon of Boston. I have reverted his vandalism more times than I can count. He has vandalised under IP addresses, 141.154.10.193, 68.160.165.46, and 68.162.243.40. I would keep an eye on 68.162.247.229, cause when the temp ban runs out he will be back, if not before. - SVRTVDude (Yell - Toil) 02:02, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- Glad I can help. Please let me know if there are any further problems and I will be glad to lend a hand. - SVRTVDude (Yell - Toil) 02:06, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Omar Abu Omar
editCould you move Omar Abu Omar to Abu Qatada? There was a proposed move on the talkpage, but only two users commented, disagreeing, and Rob Church declined the move because there was no consensus. However, I would support the move... so I guess that would make it 66% in favor...? I'm not sure if thats the right reasoning, but Rd232 makes a convincing argument in favor of the page move on Talk:Omar Abu Omar. Regards, KazakhPol 03:57, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Scott Keith
editI have noticed that you deleted the Scott Keith article/page. Could you please give reason as to this? I am aware that the article was a popular target for vandals and spammers, but nonetheless there were 2 prior debates regarding the pages deletion, and both times it was decided, overwhelmingly I may add, to keep the page. The "relevant"/"notable" debates came to the same conclsuion. I don't mean to cause offense, but it would appear that you have some sort of personal bias/grudge towards Mr Keith, otherwise your deletion of the article would seemingly not have occured....1 March 2007
mnetta
editI posted an articled title Royaltons tm about a week ago that was deleted because of flagrant promotion. The article contained only one reference to a company and only to give credit for the term that was trademarked by that company's founder. The article was written as a descriptive narrative to describe a subsection of the three most populous ethnic groups in the country. I am hopeful that someone can review the article with this explanation and allow the article to remain as it does not promote a product, service or company. Thank you. mnettaMnetta 03:04, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Terrorism in Kazakhstan
editAdam Cuerden just deleted Terrorism in Kazakhstan based on the "consensus" expressed by the community at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Terrorism in Kazakhstan. There were four delete votes and eight keep votes meaning 66% of the votes were in favor of keeping the article. How was there a consensus to delete the article? I am struggling to understand that... KazakhPol 19:17, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi. I have received notification upon posting to AIV that user is already blocked for his 13 page blanks in 9 minutes. Not according to his talk page - just warnings issued. Thanks. Refsworldlee(chew-fat)(eds) 22:53, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Username block of User:PlatypusMarketing
editI'm only a noob admin, but I'm pretty sure that corporate username blocks should enable account creation, as they could still conceivably be in good faith. Or am I misremembering? Veinor (talk to me) 04:34, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Deletion of "James Frishman" page
editI tried creating a page about a notable highschool teacher in my area and it was immediately deleted by Academic Challenger. I was just wondering what policy this was applicable under and why the response came literally seconds after I created the page. Was there a bot involved that was attached to this account? Thank you for your concern. Errant Venture 22:31, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

editI've got to go to bed also. I put their talk page on my watchlist, to try to remind myself to look tomorrow at their history. By the way, a couple days ago I saw someone had copied your user page to their talk page, and were playing with it. I reported it to ANI and they blocked the user straight off. User:StrangerInTown removed from the AIV board
editHi, I think there is little doubt that User:StrangerInTown is a sockpuppet of the banned User:The real Barbara Schwarz. Please also note I've reported another recent sockpuppet account on the board here and the sockpuppet was quickly blocked. If what I did was inappropriate, please say so in order that I do not repeat the mistake. Regards, Orsini 07:19, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm curious about the block of user talk:207.230.140.240
editHi, please don't assume that I am challenging your prerogative as an administrator to block whom you deem is doing harm to the encyclopedia; I'm curious as a non-admin unfamiliar with blocking procedure. Why did you block User talk:207.230.140.240 when the user had not been given any warnings within the past at least 20 days? --Iamunknown 02:38, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Concerning your Admin Coaching assignments
editYour name is still listed at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Volunteers.
Note that the instructions may have changed since the last time you checked, and the department now follows a self-help process.
If you don't currently have a student, or if you believe you can handle another one, select a student from the request list at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Requests and contact them. See the instructions on Wikipedia:Admin coaching. Good luck.
If you are no longer available to coach, , please remove yourself from the volunteers list.

editThank you for taking the time to look at the situation that had developed at the McMaster University article. I started out trying to resolve a relatively small factual issue over the University's ranking and wound up in a bit of a hornets' nest (apparently I am now the biggest turd ever[5]). I find myself second-guessing whether there was a better way for me to have approached that situation or would any attempt to wade into that article have had the same result. Since you looked at it, I'm curious if you have any feedback.--Kubigula (talk) 04:37, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- If I had to do it again, I probably would spend more time explaining my concerns on the talk page - though I suspect it wouldn't have made any difference. Thanks very much for the feedback.--Kubigula (talk) 05:08, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia Problem
editHello, I was referred to you by User:SeanMD80 because I have a problem. Recently I posted an article (Barry L. Zubrow) which was marked and approved for speedy deletion due to a conflict of interest.
So, put in an article request, but User:DMG413 01 deleted this request, claiming it was a repost, siting that there was "no changes in the circumstances" of this article. However, there clearly was a change because I did not actually write the article, only requested that someone else does. To my knowledge, this does not pose a conflict of interest. In the deletion review, users generally agreed that this person deserves an article because he has considerable notoriety. Therefore, I believe my request was valid and should not of been deleted.
Is my understanding of these matters correct? Is this request still considered a conflict of interest? Would a newly created article on Barry L. Zubrow created by a different user still be marked for speedy deletion?
Notation and robots
editThanks for supporting my reorganisation of derivative notation against the robots! Just for clarity, my plan is the x's notation for differentiation should be merged into x's notation and notation for differentiation. Thanks again. Geometry guy 22:48, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

J.C. Webster AfD 2nd Nom. Discussion
editI responded to your two comments on the AfD discussion on the J.C. Webster article. I respectfully disagree with your comment and would ask that you clarify what you meant at the discussion space. The issues with the article are verifiability and notability, one of which seems unlikely and the other is debatable. I see that you are an experienced administrator and thus presumably are familiar with Wikipedia's various policies. Your further participation in the discussion would be valued.
Also, I took the liberty of making a few very minor formatting adjustments to your comments so that they were more easily understandable, namely spelling corrections and bolding the Extremely strong keep portion of your comment. If these alterations offend you, please accept my apology, they were done in good faith with the best of intentions.
Thank you very much, Scienter 02:30, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia Competition
editExcuse me Academic Challenger, but could you please give me a reason why my page "Wikipedia Competition" was deleted? I put alot of time and effort into that page, and for it to be deleted without a reason hurt my feelings. Please could you do the polite and decent thing by giving me a reason, thank you for your time. --Matt 08:53, 28 March 2007 (UTC) Edit: On the same note, could you please respond quickly, I need to go serve soup to the poor.
Reply: Please keep this page or put it back!! Everyone I know loved it and worshipped it!! It's jsut so unfair! - Yes, please let me know if you find more. I won't have a huge amount of time to be on Wikiedia for the next 3 days or so, but I will deal with them as quickly as possible. The oddest thing about this person is that he uses some of his accounts to fight some of his other accounts. Academic Challenger 00:31, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Obama's mother
edithi - Barack Obama's mother's given name was Stanley Ann Dunham. She was named after her father, Stanley, allegedly because he always wanted a son. This is sourced to Obama's autobiography, Dreams from my Father, page 19 as the reference and several edit summaries indicated. I re-instated a longer footnote to explain this, and added some hidden text in the sentence to reassure editors that Stanley is correct. For some reason that I do not know, some sites on the net say her name was Shirley, but that is not correct and we're going with Obama's own words, his autobiography, where he explicitly says what his mother's name was and how she got it - even that she was mercilessly teased about it. We've corrected this numerous times - please help us keep it correct. Thanks very much. Tvoz |talk 08:30, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Block request
editI am requesting a 24-hour block of Kzrulzuall for this post[6] and an additional block of SlimVirgin for this[7]. She has now asserted I have engaged in libel and that I have been posting that she (Amal al-Durrah) is dead so I therefore should be blocked for WP:BLP. KazakhPol 00:05, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- If you are unwilling to assist then I will take this to arbitration. SlimVirgin and Jayjg are trying to use BLP to block editors for expressing their opinion. I referred to Al-Durrah as a fake. She is trying to get me blocked for that and only that. Look at Jayjg's threat about blocking Liftarn on WP:AN/I in the "WP:BLP" section. KazakhPol 00:55, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

editHi Aca!! I haven't been too active here lately, only wrote two articles in 2006. Not only do all the things I mentioned at Village Pump have me dissapointed-the rules make me dissapointed and if I get inspired to write something Im like what for? someone's gonna put it on VfD and it will be erased anyway!- but also I've been writing at Ringsidereport.com, I hope you stop there and check me out under my real name, Antonio Santiago. I view my job there, more than informing people about boxing also like a social job, having covered issues like steroids and the fatal consequences it may have on boxers, stuff like that too.
I REALLY REALLY APPRECIATED YOUR WORDS!!!! Not only are you a great writer but a great person too, you made my day with your compliments. The fact is, actually when I first became a Wikipedian I was like "Wow, I can let people know that boxing is more than Muhammad Ali!!" LOL and now I use Wikipedia to study stuff when I will write such delicated topics as, well, steroids. On a recent article I had to research wikipedia for detached retinas so that people would get the idea that some former boxer was a coward for quitting off their minds. So basically, I've also learned a lot here about things I was never that interested about before. He he!
I am glad you will be here keeping an eye on pages that are VfD. We need more people like you. Too many good pages have gone the wind way by people who think that if an article isn't about a plant or a government official then it is not worthy here.
Thanks for everything and God bless you!!!--Antonio Slum of Beverly Hills Martin 10:37, 12 April, 2007 (UTC)

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Christopher Bond, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Vandalism Reversion and Warning
editWhile I greatly appreciate your assistance in reverting vandalism, and I realize you are probably quite busy, I would appreciate it if you took the time to actually warn the users who vandalize instead of just reverting and letting bygones be bygones. Every time I see a 50-edit all-vandal account with ZERO warnings (but many reverts) it boggles my mind and makes my job harder. Thank you for your time and dedication. List of Canadian Celebrities
editI noticed back on January 18, 2007 you edited the List of Canadian celebrities by hometown and removed actor Terry David Mulligan. I was just curious as to why. Ccrashh 18:11, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Islamophobia
editPlease unprotect Islamophobia. There was a minor dispute over the language used in the sections but it was resolved several days ago. On the talkpage all sides came to a mutual agreement. KazakhPol 20:45, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Categories
editOk, thank you so much for the category advice! I'll try to do that more often.
Hmm, ahh, I understood that everything would be both under Islam and Ismailism. Ok, thanks, I'll keep that in mind as well. --Enzuru 22:07, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, can I ask you why you reverted so many changes to Talk:Ebbw Valley Line? You've removed a number of valid (although perhaps posted in the wrong place on the page) edits. They may not have made much of a sensible contribution to the discussion, but were certainly not vandalism. I have put the comments back. --RFBailey 09:48, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Luke Records -- WAIT!
editLuke Records is a real label and the article is valid--it was just vandalized by User:Tay0006. You deleted it after I reverted the edits. --Finngall talk 03:43, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
RE:Hello!
editGood job. I would have tagged the article anyway. Could that user possibly be some type of bot? ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions ♣ 00:42, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

editThere seems to be a group of vandals going from one boy band member to another. Really strange, but if you can use your admin powers to block, its much appreciated.—Gaff ταλκ 08:07, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
