Welcome to Wikipedia, Abrech! I am Stormtracker94 and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Thank You edit

Thank you for the barnstar and kind comments! Do you user Firefox or Internet Explorer? If you use FireFox I would highly recommend you take a look at twinkle, I started with it and it was great :) I used Lupin's Tool to find the vandalism, and then twinkle to revert and then warn. If I can help you in anyway just leave me a message :) Thanks again. Tiddly-Tom 19:44, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your hints. Wow! I think you just increased my productivity by 900 per cent or so. Thanks again! --Abrech (talk) 22:20, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I use huggle, and I see you do so also! It is much quicker than twinkle, but I'd still recommend twinkle to new users as it gives them a better understanding of vandalism revising and warning having to do it more manuely than just pressing the Q button! Tiddly-Tom 21:38, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tuesday edit

I'm sure they would find it funny - it is only one word; and it doesn't really interfere with anyone finding articles, so I ask that you let it stay... just look into your heart. Oh, and I would take you up on those cookies... but I'm not supposed to take food from strangers :) 219.88.196.29 (talk) 10:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I admit, your edit indeed was funny. However: It's an encyclopedia, nothing else. Kind regards, --Abrech (talk) 10:16, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism??? edit

  • Hi, I recently noticed you rolled back my clean up of vandalism on Hamburger. I was reverting vandalism, and if you see this diff, your rolling back of my cleanup restored vandalism. Could you explain to me, on my talk page, why you warned me? And how it is justified. Thank you. Steve Crossin (talk) 11:50, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Obviously, I made a mistake. It seems that I wanted to revert the same Vandalism as you did, and you were faster than I am. Also, it seems that I failed to realise that you had already reverted the edit. Sorry for this. I apologise. Kind regards, --Abrech (talk) 12:01, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • That's quite OK :) Yes, I beat most people. Only ClueBot, and some people with faster internet. I use Huggle. But, its alright, I've done the same thing before too, just wanted to clear it up :) Steve Crossin (talk) 12:06, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your understanding. If you wish so, I could delete the obviously mistaken warning from your talk page. --Abrech (talk) 12:08, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism edit

  • You're most welcome :) I'm just doing whatever I can to keep Wikipedia clean. Unfortuately, I now have a bad case of ECT. But anytime you need anything, let me know. And if you reply to this, please post a {{talkback}} template on my page.Steve Crossin (talk) 08:51, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Seems you are under constant attack from vandals. I'm actively watching your user page :) Steve Crossin (talk) 08:57, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Okay, I thought I should let you know. That persistent vandal vandalised your user page another FIVE times. Well, I rolled back their vandalism, and they have been blocked. I'm happy to have helped you out. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help :) Regards, Steve Crossin (talk) 09:05, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Five times, wow. Thanks a lot for your help! It is greatly appreciated! --Abrech (talk) 09:08, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • You are most welcome :) *cough* barnstar *cough* No, I'm kiddind :PSteve Crossin (talk) 09:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
But I am not kidding with the barnstar! Remember: My edits take longer than yours! ;) --Abrech (talk) 11:00, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • D Well, I have rollback, and Huggle. I just saw the edits in your user page history, clicked rollback, and I kept refreshing until they were blocked. Steve Crossin (talk) 11:01, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. Your edit was insulting to the respective person. "More or less the truth" is not enough to meet encyclopedic standards. Please keep that in mind with respect to future edits. Kind regards, --Abrech (talk) 15:16, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Passport article edit

My changes in the Passport article were rolled back. I don't know why. On request, I'll provide you with a reason for each change.

Hello and thanks for your message. At least this edit of yours [1] seemed to be not constructive or at least premature, so I reverted it. If you have the feeling that the rollback I performed was over the top, I do agree if you include your changes. However, may I suggest that you use the "show preview" button in the future to avoid situations where your edits are reverted?
Anyhow, please don't misunderstand my revert. Your constructive contributions to Wikipedia are most welcome, and it is not my objective to discourage you. Kind regards, --Abrech (talk) 13:38, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Passport again edit

1. Question: Why does (did?) the phrase Bold Text appear at the top left of the text? Does it mean anything?

2. Explanation of my changes (omitting style changes), so that you know that I know what I'm doing.

Text: A passport is issued by a national government, to identify the bearer as a citizen of the issuing country and to request of foreign governments that the bearer be permitted to enter and pass through other countries.

Action: omitted underlined phrase.

Reason: The passport makes that "request" only in a formalistic sense. There is no request by one minister of foreign affairs to another, by way of a passport or in any other way. The only request is the actual one, made by a traveller when he presents his passport to an immigration officer.

Text: Photos of Spanish and Lithuanian biommetric passports.

Action: Deletion of each.

Reason: Duplication. There is one photo of a German biometric passport. Having photos of the Spanish biometric passport and of the Lithuanian biometric passport serves no informational purpose. Also makes text look cramped. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.79.123.14 (talk) 08:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

While I am no expert on that field, I think that the changes you propose make sense. The "Bold Text" line probably appears since you accidentaly struck the "bold"-button. I suggest that I put your changes back in place, while keeping this "Bold Text" thing deleted. Ok? --Abrech (talk) 12:54, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
P.S. Can it be that you now are a registered user with the name User:Passportman? If so, welcome to Wikipedia and thanks that you already made the respective changes. Kind regards, --Abrech (talk) 12:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Map and country list edit

Yes, I'm Passportman.

Please read my comments about (a) Transnistria and (b) visa-free entry or visa on arrival, which I wrote on the Discussion page of the United States passport page.

My present thinking is that the map should be discarded. The list should be retained, but should be limited to countries which are members of the United Nations, plus Taiwan, which is not a member, and Vatican City, which is not a member but which has obvserver status at the General Assembly. Listing territories and possessions is unnecessary.

Tangerine novel edit

The Tangerine novel edit was helpful, actually. The person who wrote it didn't write anything. Well, almost nothing to do with the book. Once I get the book, I'll read it and write a wayyyyy better summary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chinesedude4 (talkcontribs) 21:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

RE: edit on 'Hartford High School' edit

As I'm sure you understand, this particular IP is a proxy & Web Server (shared) adress, so there are many people who could resonsible for the edit concerned. Thank you for your effort to revert the change - the user concerned with the incident has had appropriate measures taken to ensure nothing of it happens again.

Hi, and thanks for your message. This edit [2] appeared to be unconstructive and therefore, I reverted it. Please don't feel personally accused. If the edit came from a shared IP, there's nothing you can do about it and you can simply disregard my message. Kind regards, --Abrech (talk) 08:42, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

On this page, I reverted this edit: [3]. This edit was unconstructive, because useful text was replaced with a simple "hi". However, this edit did not come from your IP. Moreover, if the IP where the edit came from is a shared IP, it's possible that it's not from you. In that case, just disregard the message. Azerbaijan edit

Gulmammed, a contributor whose user page shows him to be an Azerbaijani nationalist, has twice, to no informational purpose, added photos (cover and inside pages) of an Azerbaijani passport to the Passport article. Another page indicates that Gulmammed has a history of adding material which was deleted by moderators. His changes to the Passport page should be investigated. Azerbaijan III edit

My suggestions concerning the photo recently added by Gulmammad: (1) The caption should be changed to "Inside front cover and first page of a non-biometric Azerbaijani passport". That's what is in the photo. (2) The photo, which is near the text about emergency passports, should be moved up, so that it is near the text about ordinary passports, because that's what the photo illustrates. It seems that Gulmammad does not use his User page. Is there a way to get in touch with him? Can you pass the message along? Tks. Someone asked me a question in German and I am dont know what it means. Can you translate it for me, if you don't mind? And also, can you tell how to answer back in German? Thanks so much in advance.

The question asked was: Sag mir... Wo wuchten Sie auf?

What does it mean and how do I answer it in German? User:VeronicaPR —Preceding comment was added at 03:57, 4 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The list is now sortable with additional data from Compete.com. So, it is no longer a wholesale reproduction of Alexa ranks only.Anwar (talk) 19:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. Are you sure that the list is not original research? And do you think this list will be manageable over the years? This are the things to be discussed, I think. --Abrech (talk) 08:44, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
This is not original research. It is better referred as data mining. The information about visitors was already wellknown within the industry. But it was not available for public consumption until now (for free). The list is as good as the lists for GDP. Easily maintenable as visitor trend tends to peak or stabilise when the product reaches critical mass with the public. So ranks are unlikely to change dramatically in a short timespan unless somegame-changing event or technology arrives next season.Anwar (talk) 10:24, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

New Project edit

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 17:02, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sidefall edit

Hi, I'm sorry, but I fail to see how my edit to Christian praise and worship could be considered vandalism. I expanded the article by replacing a redirect with a simple disambiguation which includes the original redirect target. I would suggest that it is much better for a user who searches for "christian praise and worship" to be presented with a choice between a general article on christian worship and an article on the musical genre, rather than going straight to the latter article. I also note that you reverted my change to church software so have created a very brief (and rather meaningless) stub instead. I am currently trying to improve some articles in the field of christian worship and would appreciate it if you assume good faith and make comments on the discussion pages, rather than just revert my work. Sidefall (talk) 14:09, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sidefall, thanks for your message. I am sorry if I reverted your edits mistakenly. However, it seems to me that you blanked the page with this edit to church software (see [5]), what I found to be unconstructive. As to your edit to Christian praise and worship, I am not certain which revision of mine you mean? --Abrech (talk) 17:11, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I blanked church software because it was simply a redirect to worship presentation program. I provided an explanation on the talk page - there are other types of church software and I felt the redirect was confusing and meaningless - I'm not sure the page in its then state added anything to Wikipedia and I suggested it would be best deleted. Since you objected to that, I have now created a very brief stub which still doesn't really say anything, and to be honest I'm expecting it to get AfD'd. I don't have a particular concern with your actions on that page.
However, I was very unhappy with your revert on Christian praise and worship and am not sure why you asked about which version - perhaps you're looking at the redirect target. If you look at the revision history (here [6]) you'll see what I mean. I changed the redirect to a simple disambig (including the target of the original redirect). I fail to see how that warranted a revert, let alone a vandalism warning. I'm going to undo your revert and trust that we won't get into a war. Sidefall (talk) 18:17, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Now I understand. My revision on Christian praise and worship was a mistake and I apologise. Sorry for any inconvenience. However, may I suggest that the line "you may be interested in..." is less encyclopedic than a "... may refer to...". But, anyway, I am sorry for treating your edit as vandalism, what it was clearly not.
As to the other page, please keep in mind that blanking the page is (more or less) never the right choice. If the page is not needed, it is better to tag it for deletion, see WP:AFD.
I suggest that I delete the notes on your talkpage regarding your edits, since they may look akward. ok? --Abrech (talk) 19:32, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for apology and for removing stuff on my talk page. I have changed Christian praise and worship as you suggested. Sidefall (talk) 19:40, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:HAU has a new format edit

Due to popular demand, HAU has a new look. Since the changes are so dramatic, I may have made some mistakes when translating the data. Please take a look at WP:HAU/EU and make sure your checkmarks are in the right place and feel free to add or remove some. There is a new feature, SoxBot V, a recently approved bot, automatically updates your online/offline status based on the length of time since your last edit. To allow SoxBot V to do this, you'll need to copy [[Category:Wikipedians who use StatusBot]] to your userpage. Obviously you are not required to add this to your userpage, however, without this, your status will always be "offline" at HAU. Thanks. Useight (talk) 17:12, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:HAU edit

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 22:17, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:HAU, Status, and you! edit

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 23:01, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
