Lancashire County Council election

Hey 82.45.

A quick note. It's been convention for a while now (see 2017 Lancashire County Council election) that we DON'T include each and every candidate for the County Council elections. There are far too many of them, and they're arguably not notable (see guidelines on GNG and POL).

The summary version of the article is more than enough, Wiki does not have to list each and every vote, and I think we should stick to summaries wherever possible. Further to this, your candidate lists were not sourced (see WP:CITE). doktorb _words^deeds 09:29, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Notice of edit warring

Your recent editing history at 2019 Derbyshire Dales District Council election shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. 2022 Cardiff Council election

Neither your approach nor mine is ideal but mine is supported by secondary sources. Yours is not. On that basis mine should stand. I get the argument that your %'s reflect vote received as a % of ballots issued but again there is no source for your data. Thoughts? Benawu2 (talk) 21:09, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Certainly the information on the number of ballots cast (i.e. the turnout) should be included on the page. I have provided an additional source for these.

Unlike the votes per candidate and the number of ballots cast, the percentages shouldn't need to be backed up by sources - they are simply a matter of maths using these other two pieces of information.

Percentages based on the number of ballots cast are generally considered the most useful as far more informative, as they e.g. allow you to calculate the effect of a 5% swing (or whatever). The alternative, which also has some merit, is using the top vote per party - so providing information (albeit imperfect) on the percentage a party wins rather than the percentage particular candidates win. The percentages from the Cardiff website however are essentially meaningless, and provide very little information to the viewer. Icc27 (talk) 09:04, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
