Request reason:

Excuse me? “my little brother did it”? I am not “evading” my sons block. Thank you for the links, I read them. 1) What my son did was out of frustration over how he was being treated and he apologized for it. 2) It’s not enough for you to bully a dying child whose family is falling apart and deny him the only thing he wants in this world, but you also have to go after his mother? You people are a completely new breed of sick. 3) I am only here for answers and I have no intention of getting involved with editing or “vandalizing” articles, so no, blocking me is not necessary to “prevent damage to Wikipedia.” Why don’t you just be honest about why you are doing this to my family? You are trying to cover up your appalling treatment of my son by silencing his mother. 72.198.182.107 (talk) 00:00, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

If you have no intention of editing, you don't need to be unblocked. Please see this page about how Wikipedia is not for therapeutic purposes, and even if it were, there was clearly vandalism. As such, I am declining this request. 331dot (talk) 00:29, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • I would add that a child dying, however tragic, is not a reason to hand out administrator powers. Administrators are nominated and go through a community vetting process. The community will never give those powers to someone who has only vandalized articles and has not shown an understanding of Wikipedia policies. 331dot (talk) 00:37, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Beyond that, madam, let's get a grip here and inject some common sense into this sordid episode. Presuming this isn't some fairy tale altogether -- the "oh, we need to give the dying child his heart's desire" being a well-known Internet trope -- how was Brendan treated? He wanted to become an admin, and was told that was not going to happen. (In like fashion, he wasn't going to be put in the starting lineup of the Boston Bruins, made an officer in the US Army, become a line firefighter, or any other position requiring years of long hard work, dedication and skill, just because he might want it.) He then started to vandalize Wikipedia, was told to stop, and was ultimately blocked for it. If you consider that "bullying" and "appalling treatment," whatever, but we're not going to suspend our standards any more than the Bruins, the military or the fire department will. Your son was treated, throughout, with civility; we just didn't -- however much American culture is buying into the premise these days -- equate "rudeness" with "not giving you what you want."

But ultimately, this is what don't I find easy to credit: your son, madam, has been a registered Wikipedia user for precisely six days. And you, and he, want us to believe that becoming a Wikipedia admin is his heart's desire and the only thing he wants in all the world? Seriously? Ravenswing 02:59, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • One modest postscript: I talked this over with my wife, who is an elementary school teacher teaching special needs students. She commented on her student "Ivy." Poor Ivy has a serious learning disability, and needs (and has permission to use) a calculator for her math work in class. None of her seventeen other classmates have such permission, they resent the hell out of it, and Ivy gets bullied over it. Unlike your son, Ivy doesn't have options. She doesn't get to not take math, and she doesn't get to opt out of the third grade, and she doesn't have Mom standing over her shoulder as a rabid protector. (Mom, with five different kids by five different fathers, isn't that invested anyway.) My wife's take is that your son being told he can't just be handed a position in the most widely read and used encyclopedia in world history -- one requiring maturity, discipline, arcane knowledge and high skill -- is very far indeed from her definition of "bullying." If you have been telling the truth this entire time, I'm very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how you must feel, but this site is not the place for you to grieve. Further activity here will only keep negative experiences in your mind, when it would be better to remember the joy your son brought into your life. If you care about your son's continued image here, then just stop and walk away. Continued disruptive editing will only cause us to conclude that you are trolling the site in an offensively ghoulish manner, because there are some really sick people on the internet who very well would pretend to be the mother of a dying child just to mess with people. If you do nothing, this account will either be forgotten or maybe your claims will be taken at face value by later scholars of internet culture (possibly resulting in some sort of future reform). If you try to push us, people will assume you were just another troll. Ian.thomson (talk) 23:21, 9 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
