Speedy deletion nomination of User:Bernard-Riley-artist/sandbox

edit

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Bernard-Riley-artist/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi! I deleted the page. If you are the Bernard Riley the article was about, then you probably should wait that someone else writes a page about you. Wikipedia is not a place for self promotion or personal pages. If you are writing on behalf of Bernard Riley, also read about paid contributions. If you are a fan or someone who just happens to think Bernard Riley deserves an article here, then I'd suggest a couple of things, change your username, read articles on similar artists to get the tone, then start a draft, at draft:Bernard Riley, and ask for input. If starting a draft please ask me or any other admin for the deleted text to get you started. - Nabla (talk) 19:36, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Nabla: My guess is that the author is Bernard Riley's son. According to the sandbox, Bernard Riley died many years ago.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:44, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
yes that is correct - how can i have the page reinstated, i have a lot of work into this Bernard-Riley-artist (talk) 19:46, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
It's very difficult to create an article on Wikipedia when you have a WP:COI (please read for more information). You started working on that page last April. It's now August. When were you expecting to "finish" it? The usual process on Wikipedia is to create a draft and use WP:AFC to get feedback from more experienced editors about the suitability of the article. However, even when doing that, the material cannot be as promotional as yours was. It has to be neutral and encyclopedic if it stands a ghost's chance of becoming an article. Also, I strongly suggest you change your username as it looks like you are the artist and the username itself is promotional. You can use your real name if you like or any username that is acceptable per Wikipedia's rather lenient policy on usernames. There's a lot to learn for new editors, and it's even harder when that appears to be your sole purpose in editing here.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:06, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh! I am very sorry for not noticing that. Please, accept my apologies. As to getting the page back, just ask, as I said above. If you ask me I may take a few days to reply, I am not always around. I really suggest you change the username first and read about COI as Bbb23 also pointed to. Better do it right, to have some chance of it becoming an article, than doing it fast. Enjoy! - Nabla (talk) 20:56, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
ok, thanks i did request a change in the user name - if you could reinstate the page it would be great, i have been working hard on the citations

How did you request a name change; I don't see it.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:02, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

I'll undelete the page and move it to Draft:Bernard Riley - Nabla (talk) 21:40, 30 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Done,. But I changed the title to Draft:Bernard Riley (painter), because there is already a Bernard Riley (footballer). Good look. Try to look for good wp:References, and be patient, WP can be frustrating at times. I'm probably not the best tutor, but if you need help, you may talk to me. - Nabla (talk) 21:52, 30 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks for your help, but one question Wiki says the sandbox is just for playing, not for publication – that is good – but when I try to play and make changes I get my hands slapped for doing something wrong! Why? 2601:181:8300:BB60:0:0:0:F898 (talk) 21:57, 30 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Advertising and promotion of non wp:Notable subjects are strongly discouraged. It is a general rule that any such page may be deleted immediately. That is a wp:Speedy Deletion, which usually goes in two (quick) steps, some user nominates the page (as in the first paragraph of this conversation), and some admin deletes, if they think the nomination is correct (as I did). You may see the rule code is wp:G11, the "G" meaning it applies in general, to whatever page; not only articles, it applies to drafts, sandboxes, whatever. The point is, off course, that without that WP would be flooded with articles about everyone and everything. Having a user name equal to the page name is a usual clear tell sign of promotion. I guess that is why I deleted the page quickly. Only as a afterthought I realized that maybe I was too harsh, maybe the page could become an article. And that is why I left you a note about how to get it back. - Nabla (talk) 00:39, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
One more question – based on your suggestion I changed my username to 6000easthill, now I do not see my site 2601:181:8300:BB60:0:0:0:F898 (talk) 22:05, 30 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi. I am not sure what you mean by not seeing "your site". Given your signature was a wp:IP my guess is that you were not logged in. - Nabla (talk) 00:25, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I wp:Watchlist this page, so I likely notice if you reply to me, but I watchlist a whole lot of pages and it may go unnoticed. If you add {{re|Nabla}} to you message, I'll get a wp:Notification, which is almost impossible to miss. - Nabla (talk) 00:43, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
{{re|Nabla}} Thanks, I have made several changes to make it shorter and more objective. I have also changed the cites based on suggestions and have resubmitted.
thanks for your help, hope this works

Thanks for the review. The New York Times cites are available in their archive. Unfortunately, the other newspaper cites and the American Artist cites have not been digitized by the publisher. I do have pdf copies that I would be glad to send you.
I am not sure what you mean that entire sections are unsourced. If you mean the charts of works and exhibits, those are from my own knowledge. I added them since Wikipedia seems to like charts but I can delete those and any other section you feel should be deleted
