Teahouse edit

Hi. Thanks for coming by Teahouse and asking questions. We are glad to help you. However, it would be best for all if you waited until you have more experience before you answer other's questions. We have Teahouse so we can encourage and help new editors. Wrong answers such as the one you gave regarding a user account are confusing to someone in an already very confusing environment, and that is discouraging, not encouraging. That being said, I have been around Teahouse since it started, which was about the same time I started. If you read it regularly, in no time at all you will have the competence to answer questions. I started out asking, and in a month or so I was able to answer questions too. And I still sometimes have to ask questions! Glad you're a Wikipedian, and happy editing! John from Idegon (talk) 20:10, 26 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Again, I am going to ask you to please refrain from commenting at Teahouse. Ask all the questions you want, please, but comments such as this do nothing to help. It did not clarify in any way the OP's question, and undermined the good advice he was given by another editor (an administrator BTW) over a point that had nothing to do with it. Does JocularJellyfish know any more about the use of periods in college degrees from your comment? All you accomplished by your comment was to make it look like an editor that gave him good advice was ignorant. You were factually correct, but your comment did not help anyone. @John from Idegon: I apologize. I apologize for confusing things. I apologize for creating even less clarity in a situation that required clarification. I did the opposite of what this situation was in need of. What did you mean by "editor?" I think I am an editor. We are all editors, are we not? Are you saying I am not an editor now? How do I know when I am an editor and when I am not an editor?? In any case, I am obviously confused. I evidently have caused more confusion, as well. Did I unintentionally violate some kind of Wikipedia policy? This was not out of malice, and without intention. What do you suggest I do to remedy things? If I am commenting on things in Teahouse, isn't that what the Teahouse is for? Thanks in advance. B'H.

AS the editor who was being responded to, and disagreed with, John from Idegon, I will say that i did not have any problems with the comments above. I disagree with them, and had responded to them, but I do not see them as unhelpful, nor would i discourage this editor from co0mmenting on other replies. None of us knows everything. I would suggest that a relatively inexperienced editor not be the first to respo0nd to a Teahouse question, as often points of wikipedia-specifc practice or guideline or policy are involved, that an comparatively new editor may not know. In any case, John from Idegon, I have just now started an RFC at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Abbreviations# RFC: Periods in abbreviations for degrees. Anyone interested in this issue should comment there, please. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 21:42, 6 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Non-free images edit

I removed a non-free image from User:2422889236x/sandboxX. Non-free images are allowed only in article namespace, and only on the article specified in the supplied WP:non-free use rationale. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:24, 26 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Your signature edit

Hello 2422889236x,

Please do not use a signature that appears to be an IP address. That is misleading and violates the spirit of our username policy, which does not allow usernames that imitate IP addresses. Thank you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:25, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the link. I am so glad you caught this! The username has been altered. Have a wonderful, truthfilled day! B'H. MichaelAngelo7777 (talk) 00:46, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much, 2422889236x. I appreciate it. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:58, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Did you ever find out what was wrong? edit

You did not get a response to this Teahouse question. WP:VPT is sometimes the place to ask this type of question. However, I am about a month behind.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:58, 1 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
