Yes, I have seen your call for the creation of individual Masters Series articles on the Tennis WikiProject discussion page - I am currently working on creating individual articles for other tournaments (Rotterdam, Long Island, and the various men's year-end championships), so I'm quite busy right now, but I fully intend to participate to the creation of Masters Series events. I think the first aim should be to do with each event what was done with the Canada Masters, that is create articles back to 2000, when the Super 9 officially became the Tennis Masters Series. Indianapolis Tennis Championships

I saw your message saying you would work on the Indy event, and I did some research, to discover it only started to be called Indianapolis Tennis Championships in 2007. It bore four other names before that, mainly RCA Championships - I corrected the tournament's template using these names, as well as the main TennisEventInfo-TennisEvents2 templates, and moved the pages you created as well as the '94 and '95 ones that already existed to their correct location.

I have also removed the links of the dates (against MOS), and corrected some categories. Also, I tagged the articles in the talk pages (as you may know, User:rst20xx tagged all tournament articles recently, and asked me and some other editors to tag all new articles we might create). One last thing - I haven't corrected that, but scores should actually be written with Ndashes, instead of regular hyphens (that's – instead of -).

Re: Tennis

OK, there is a number of small changes that I probably would do to the 2000 RCA Championships pages if I were to copyedit them - perhaps some of these changes are not that important but here we go :

On the main 2000 RCA Championships page:

• The current lead to present the players is fine, but I usually write them under a different format : First a sentence about the top 3 players (The singles field/draw/line up featured/was headlined by/was led by/included etc... Player 1, Player 2, and Player 3) in which I usually mention the ranking of the top seed (you can see that in the Player Activity section on the players profiles of the ATP website - here Kuerten was ATP No. 2 when arriving in Indianapolis) to give an idea of the importance of the tournament (it makes a big difference if the top seed is World No. 1 of ATP No. 34). In that first sentence, I usually mention all the titles won by the top three seeds, and eventually finals, perhaps semifinals, in Grand Slam events. In the second sentence, I mention the titles, or Grand Slam performances, of the fourth and fifth seeds, and just the names of three other players (Also present/competing/lined up etc... were Wimbledon runner-up, Long Island titlist Player 4, Hamburg winner Player 5, Player 6, Player 7 and Player 8). I try to always keep that little preview section on three lines (font on my computer is on small - the preview generally ends up on four lines with a normal font). (Anyway, there must be a thousand good ways to write these previews, but that's how I do)
• More importantly, you should have PDF versions of the draws in the external links section - when they're not available on the ATP website, get them on the ITF website (Go in the 'Drawsheet' section here, and use the URLs of the Printable versions). When tie-breaks scores are not present in the ITF draws, I sometimes use this website, and put a link to the draw in question in article (like here, with that Singles Scores (with tie-breaks) link).
• Also important, you should create the red links categories, like the Category:2000 RCA Championships here.

On the singles 2000 RCA Championships - Singles page:

• When the defending champion loses in the final, I usually write Player 1 was the defending champion, but Player 2 defeated him/her 6–0, 7–6(4), in the final.
• The score in the navbox needs to be ndashed.
• You need to have PDF links to the draw and the qualifying draw.
• The category needs to be created.
• You must create the talk page to tag the article.
• As for the use of byes - it is actually very simple: you just need to remove in the code the matches that do not take place, see for example the code of this article - the 1st first round match is not seed01 vs. seed02, but seed03 vs. seed04, and the 4th first round match is not seed09 vs. seed10, but seed11 vs. seed12.
• Finally, one last recommendation would be to check, double check again and again the scores, to avoid errors. The draws of the ATP/ITF, and even the website I gave a link to earlier are not always right. I generally compare the scores of several sources: the ITF PDF draw, the results on the ITF website, the ATP website draw, the stevegtennis.com draws, and the scores in the Player Activity of players profiles on the ATP website.

There is your review. Once again, let me stress the fact that there is probably a thousand ways to write these articles, and this is nothing else but my own way to do it - even though I applied it to standardize many, many, many articles.

I've made the changes necessary to the 2000 RCA Championships - Singles page (changed the links, corrected some scores, names, and flags, used an 8-team-bracket for the finals section (we use that for the 64 or 56 players draws), added half the seeds which were missing, and some other little things). I also modified the 2000 RCA Championships category - you don't have to actually write something when creating a category, as there is always an automated text created, however, you need to put subcategories to allow navigation (here I've just added the ATP Tour cat), and also create a talk page in which you tag the cats (once again by request of User:Rst20xx). One other thing - when seeded players do not complete their matches, or withdraw before their matches, we write withdrew due to or retired due to next to the round in which they lost, and add the reason. Here I googled articles about the tournament to find out why Rios and Novak retired and withdrew, but the reasons are sometimes metioned on ATP pdf draws. The same thing is done for doubles seeds, mentioning the family name of the injured player (withdrew/retired due to a groin injury for Woodforde). --Oxford St. (talk) 15:04, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Masters Series/Super 9

The template may be quite useful, but the articles prior to 2000, when the ATP coined the term 'Masters Series', should use their official sponsor name. I know that some Masters articles pre-2000 already exist with "Masters" in the title, but they should be moved.

I have actually started searching for the tournaments' official titles for the year 1990, and modified the 1990 Super 9 template;

and the 1994 Super 9 template, as well as all the 1994 Super 9 articles, which I have already moved to their official names:

Don't be sorry - it's a normal mistake. For your information, the Indian Wells Masters website has a detailed History section in which the men's and women's tournament's past names are listed. I just don't understand why you created the pre-2000 articles for Stuttgart under Stuttgart Masters and not Eurocard Open, or whatever the tournament's name was at that time - also, you can use the sponsor titles in the infoboxes, instead of still having Paris, Monte Carlo or Stuttgart Masters - for the colors to appear, you just have to add the necessary names to Template:TennisEventInfo and Template:TennisEvents2. --Oxford St. (talk) 09:26, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, you have to add a code with the name with which you want a color to appear, and the code of the color, at the end of the existing lists, like this, in the necessary templates. Template:TennisEventInfo corresponds to the infobox on the main page, and there are several templates (Template:TennisEvents, Template:TennisEvents2), which correspond to the navboxes on the draw pages, when the event is mixed, or men/women's only. Hello ! Well, on the German Open/Berlin Open subject, I guess the easiest and most logical thing to do would be to use the actual sponsored names of the event for the WTA tournament when it was using one. According to the article's main page (German Open (tennis)), the event had sponsored names from 1997, but actually, this document (which is not always to be trusted, but is still very valuable) says the WTA German Open started to be sponsored in 2000. So what I would do first is rename the articles from 2000 to 2008 with their sponsored name, rename the main article with the current sponsored name, and then, for the years pre-2000, when both the WTA and ATP had a German Open, simply name the articles [year] ATP German Open (for 1990-1999 articles), [year] Grand Prix German Open (pre-1990 for men), and [year] WTA German Open. It's been a couple of days and while you've been busy creating articles such as Italian economic battles you've still not explained why did what you did to the Paul Krugman article. I don't understand why you replaced the current events template about his Nobel Prize with one announcing his death. If you thought he had died, why not leave the current events template in place and just add the one for recent deaths? Hi, sorry about that - I'm assuming you're using windows, so go to start->programs->accessories and then open Notepad. Alternatively, you can go to start->Run... and type "notepad" (without the quotes) and that should run it. Paste it into there, save the data as a text file, and then you can open that text file in Excel by clicking on the drop-down menu "Files of type" and selecting "All Files". Hope that helps. Well, I thought it had changed from Lipton International Players Championships in '92 to Lipton Championships in '93 (that's what is written in this official PDF from the WTA website), but then I found this web article from nowhere, which just says the event moved from Lipton's sponsorship to Ericsson's in 1999. Still, if I were you, I'd trust the WTA PDF more, and have Lipton International Players Championships from '90 to '92 and Lipton Championships afterwards. Re:Templates

If you intend to continue creating the ATP Tour/WTA Tour yearly templates, please do the job from A to Z, by creating talk pages with the correct templates, by double-checking the spellings and the links and the tournaments' correct names. You should also use What links here and replace the existing template with the new one (I know redirecting the old links to the new template allow it to be transcluded instead of the old ones, but we should avoid having too many redirects, and anyway, that pracice sometimes creates technical problems). Brasil Open

Well, I don't have any particular information about it, so I can't say if it is exactly the same event for sure, but it looks like it is. The first WTA Brasil Open was held in 2000, and the tournament moved in 2001 to Bahia, precisely at the same location of the 2001-created ATP Brasil Open. The tournaments' dates, also, show the men's events were held one week after the women's, so I guess that, yes, it was some kind of joint, combined event during the three years of existence of the WTA event - much like the Canada Masters, which takes place with the men, then with the women playing, or next year's Swedish Open, which will take place first on the WTA tour, then on the ATP World Tour. I don't know if you're aware of it, but there's a very pratictal tool on the ITF website (at this link) which allows to search in their tournaments database by region, nation, surface, name, etc... If you enter the widest field of search in the dates (say, early 1968 until now), and look for tournaments in Brazil, you'll see all the events which took place there, Grand Prix, ATP Tour, even some WCT tournaments (not all of them), and Challengers. Apparently for 1991, there were two tourneys in Guaruja, one in Brasilia, one in Buzios, one in Sao Paulo. Almost all of these have articles on wikipedia (which I've found using the "Category:Tennis tournaments in Brazil"); ATP Guarujá (which corresponds to Guaruja I - I have no clue why it was played twice in 1991, and if Guaruja II was a second edition of that one, or a completely different tournament, held only that year), Brasilia Open, ATP Buzios. OK, I've made some research and it is not simple. Guaraja I, won by Patrick Baur, is the same Guaraja as in 1990, and is known as the Chevrolet Classic. Now, searching for Guaraja II, I found articles speaking of Javier Frana's win over Markus Zoecke, at the Philips Open,... but in Sao Paulo ! Yet, the real Sao Paulo event, won by Miniussi was a different event, the Banespa Open. So, for the templates and pages, use 1991 Chevrolet Classic for Guaraja I, 1991 Philips Open for Guaraja II, and 1991 Banespa Open for Sao Paulo. Now I still don't understand why newspapers say the Philips Open was in Sao Paulo while the ATP website (and the ITF) say it was in Guaraja, but here is all the information I've got (perhaps we should send a question to the ATP website, and hope for an (unlikely) answer...) Tier II template

I've added the dates for all the tournaments...I have to admit, I didn't have a very sophisticated method of finding these out: I went to the French Wikipedia articles, and the tables on there all contain information on what Tier the event was in what year. I checked most of them against the player activity (WTA site) of players who I knew had the played the events. Otherwise, it's difficult. I would rather have the Barcelona Ladies Open be about the reoccuring tennis event played in Barcelona (1972, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1985-95, 2007-08 i.e. WTA Barcelona) than have separate articles for all of these. It's essentially the same thing going on, and any differences that took place between the years of the event being held could be explained in the article. As for the Madrid Open (1996-2003)...that should probably be split into its own article, as it seems to be a different event that replaced Barcelona. It could even be added to the Madrid Masters article, as that's where I expect the information for the new Madrid Open will go, with it being a combined event. I'll look into it. I haven't found all of them, as I can't find any sites (not even WTA) that have collected the data in the manner that we are trying to do. One method could be to look at the French Wikipedia's WTA Tour pages (they have them going back to 1988), as it shows what events were which tier and when. Premier League seasons

I think that a simple overview of the season would be more appropriate than reviews from each team's point of view. This should definitely not be in timeline form, however. If you have any of the Premier League season review DVDs (such as these) they might give you a good idea about how to write a season review. Same goes for any episodes of The Premiership Years on Sky Sports. Very useful programmes those. I'm just wary of the grids falling afoul of WP:NOTSTATS, or whatever the policy is on not having tons of stats in. But I guess the general consensus would come out if we took one to PR. I'm not sure where you can find free images, but they have to be released under a certain licence for us to use them on Wikipedia. It seems like what you did for the Team of the Year image is take copyrighted images and composite them into a team lineup. While this shows good ingenuity, this is known as a derivative work, which you cannot claim as your own as you did not create the original photos. – PeeJay 20:45, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't really apply to the 1990s, as there were hardly any "X featuring Y" numbers ones. I did credit both George Michael and Elton John with one each for their duet, likewise George Michael and Queen for their collaboration. Brasil Open

It is hard to say if any of the tournaments you mentioned (e.g. Sao Paulo) double up as the Brasil Open pre-1994. A consult of the tournament profile for the current Brasil Open (shown here) shows no records beyond that year, and none of the Brazilian tournaments prior to 1994 seem to have a historical link to Costa do Sauipe. At a guess, Sao Paulo looks like the closest possiblity given that that tournament finished in 1993, but it looks as though the other Brazilian tournaments are completely separate tournaments from the Brasil Open.
