Signature edit

You are welcome to edit in Wikipedia with a non-Latin usernames. However, non-Latin scripts, such as Arabic, are illegible to most other contributors of the English Wikipedia. As a courtesy to the rest of the contributors, users with such usernames are encouraged to sign their posts (at least in part) with Latin characters. For an example refer to User:Παράδειγμα, who signs his posts as Παράδειγμα/Paradigma.

A signature, consisting of or ending with characters from a right-to-left script, will appear when viewing pages as --DD ,HH:MM (NAME) Month YYYY and in the edit box as --[[User:Example|DD ,HH:MM (NAME) Month YYYY]]. Adding a left-to-right marker symbol, at the end of the raw signature (HTML code: ‎), will resolve this. Or, if you include both Latin and a right-to-left script, such as Hebrew or Arabic, in your signature, consider putting Latin second, where it will be directly next to the timestamp.

Thanks for taking this into consideration. --Tikiwont (talk) 19:43, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Online Ambassadors! edit

Hi Abbad, thank you so much for this message that you left on Frank Schulenburg's talk page - it looks like you've already contacted these Arabic Wikipedians and confirmed their interest in being Wikipedia Ambassadors! This is super helpful; I really appreciate it. I would like to reach out to these Wikipedians you listed as soon as possible to talk with them about the exact next steps for becoming "official" Ambassadors. Is it okay with you if I do that? Also, what do you think is the best way to communicate with them - over Wikipedia talk pages, or email? Thanks a lot. Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 18:50, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the response on my talk page, Abbad. What you said makes sense. How about I leave a message for all of them on their talk page (in English), and then do you think you could translate my messages into Arabic and leave that on their talk page as well? Please let me know whether you have the time and capacity to do this. Thank you so much! Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 15:59, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi Abbad! I've just left a message on the user talk page of all the people you listed on Frank's talk page (under "Online Ambassadors"). I know people like Ciphers and of course yourself speak English well, but I'm not totally sure about the English fluency of the others. So if you could translate my messages into Arabic, I would really appreciate it! Thanks so much. Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 00:07, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Abbad, thanks so much for updating me about the Online Ambassadors who contacted you directly confirming their interest. I will list them as official Online Ambassadors for next semester then, after they've attended the Online Ambassador orientation. Is there anyone else you would recommend or could contact to be Online Ambassadors? We would like to involve a few more Arabic Wikipedians for the Online Ambassador role. Thanks! Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 21:50, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Online Ambassador orientation edit

Hello Abbad! Thanks again for organizing other Arabic Wikipedians to become Wikipedia Online Ambassadors. A few more Wikipedians have signed up as Online Ambassadors after we last talked, which is great. As I mentioned, all Online Ambassadors will need to participate in an Online Ambassador orientation, which will last a few hours and which will take place sometime in late January (it will take place via Skype, Google+, or some other web-conferencing technology). But I really need your help on this! You speak Arabic (I do not), and you know the Arabic Wikipedia much more than I do - you are really much more qualified to lead the Online Ambassador orientation (in Arabic)! Would you be willing to lead the Online Ambassador orientation in late January? If you are, please tell me which dates and times in late January would work for you to lead the orientation, and then you and I can maybe have a Skype call beforehand so we can talk about the more detailed plans for the orientation. Thank you very much! Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 16:57, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Abbad, sorry for my delayed response - I am actually in Cairo at the moment and it has been very busy the past few days. I would still love for you to lead the Online Ambassador orientation session if it is okay with you (I think you'd be really good at it!). It is okay that you don't know much about the orientation yet; let's have a Skype call so I can explain more about it to you and so we can discuss plans for the orientation session! Does that sound good to you? What time next week are you available to have a Skype call? Thank you! Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 15:13, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Abbad, how about let's have a Skype call this Tuesday, 24 January, at 18:00 UTC? Does that work for you? Also, could you tell me your Skype username? Mine is annie.l.lin
Thanks! Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 21:20, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
One more question - what do you think about having the Online Ambassador orientation on either Friday, 27 January or Saturday, 28 January? Would either of those work for you? I will need to check if this works for all the Online Ambassadors too, but I want to make sure it works with your schedule first. Thanks! Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 21:33, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Abbad. I will talk to you over Skype then on Tuesday, 24 January, at 18:00 UTC. Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 18:18, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sure, 19:00 UTC should be fine too. I'll let you know if I can't do that time, but for now let's plan on talking over Skype then. Thanks. Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 17:49, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Abbad, I am on Skype now and just added you. Come on Skype when you're ready! Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 19:07, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Abbad, could we possibly move our Skype call tomorrow (Wednesday) to 17:00 UTC (rather than 19:00 UTC)? Something came up last-minute and I won't be available at 19:00. Please let me know soon whether 17:00 UTC would work for you to talk on Skype. Thanks! Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 01:23, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'll talk to you on Skype at 17:00 UTC today then (about 90 minutes from now). Annie Lin (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 15:31, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Abbad, could you please tell me what your email address is? I would like to send you and Ciphers an email with more information about leading the Online Ambassador orientation this Saturday and to connect you directly with each other. You can tell me on wiki, or you can send me an email - my email address is alin [at] wikimedia [dot] org. Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you very much! Sorry y'akhi, I could speak Arabic, but cannot read it very well. Thanks for your comments on Huwwarin. I've been working on articles relating to the Homs region lately (currently al-Rastan). Let me know if you need anything. Salaamat --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:12, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wish I could. If you or others are interested we could start working on translating good quality articles in English Wiki to Arabic Wiki and vice versa. A good example is the Homs article my friend Yazan and I wrote up a few years ago which was in large part translated to Arabic wiki. As for al-thawra, the forces of justice, freedom and dignity will eventually prevail against the brutal old order in Syria and throughout the greater Arab nation despite the immense suffering. Inshallah. --Al Ameer son (talk) 21:31, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I used Google Translate ;) I, myself wouldn't be able to write in Arabic wiki. I was proposing a more large-scale program between editors in English and Arabic wiki so we could efficiently translate good articles on both sides. I wouldn't be able to do much except to continue editing here and notifying various Arabic-speaking editors to participate. Speaking of which, Yazan hasn't been active for the past few months unfortunately but you might be successful in reaching him. In any case, I know WikiArabic needs more productive editors so I'm happy they have people like yourself and Sammy ;) --Al Ameer son (talk) 02:54, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wikimania 2014 edit

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller and video producer for the Wikimedia Foundation. I'll be looking to capture stories about Wikimedians at Wikimania in London in a week. Here is an example of the kind of thing that I'm aiming to do. I saw that you're attending Wikimania and I was wondering if you might have some time to talk about what do you on Wikimedia projects. Anyway let me know if you are interested, I'll be at Wikimania from the 6th-10th of August and would need maybe 30 minutes of your time. I can answer any questions you may have. I’m best reached at vgrigas(at)wikimedia.org

Thanks!

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Iliad, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Syriac (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Nujais Shrine moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Nujais Shrine, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. --Killarnee (T12) 19:22, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
