ThinkNorth[1] was founded in 2016 by Conservative Activist Richard Salt. ThinkNorth was established to give the North of England and Scotland a bespoked Policy and Activist Group that directly connects with them through social media and Policy events in their regions. ThinkNorth supports the Conservative Party (UK) and Centre-right politics which directly effect the North of England and Scotland.
ThinkNorth has an events programme which covers a wide variety of topics and are designed to connect with grassroots supporters so that they can shape centre-right policy and interact directly with politicians in their regions. ThinkNorth does this through providing a selection of different styles of interactive experiences. This can be either by Round table (discussion), Q&A, Policy Workshops and Policy debate. The organisations also holds two annual conferences in Leeds/Manchester and Edinburgh.
In 2017 the group went to eleven constituencies across the North of England and Scotland to campaign for the Conservative Party (UK) in the United Kingdom general election, 2017. The constituencies visited where Moray (UK Parliament constituency), Aberdeen South (UK Parliament constituency), Edinburgh South (UK Parliament constituency), Halifax (UK Parliament constituency), Pudsey (UK Parliament constituency), Morley and Outwood (UK Parliament constituency), Hazel Grove (UK Parliament constituency), Bolton West (UK Parliament constituency), Lancaster and Fleetwood (UK Parliament constituency), Dewsbury (UK Parliament constituency) and Penistone and Stocksbridge (UK Parliament constituency).
ThinkNorth is managed by a group of volunteers from various backgrounds. The group is headed up by its CEO and Founder Richard Salt who has served as Leeds City Conservatives Association Chairman, the West Yorkshire Conservatives Area Team, Member of the Yorkshire & Humber Conservative Policy Forum Group and National Council Member of LGBT+ Conservatives. It's Executive Director is Highlands Councillor Andrew Jarvie, Political Director is Joe Porter a prominent Conservative Activist who co-founded the group Undivided and is a member of the UK Youth Council and Communications Director is Edinburgh Councillor Callum Laidlaw.
Recently the CEO and Founder of ThinkNorth, Richard Salt invited Alexander Stewart (MSP) to become ThinkNorth's first Honorary Chairman. The group also has the patronage of over twenty Conservative Party (UK) Member of Parliament, Members of the European Parliament and Members of the Scottish Parliament.
