In 17 December 1255, the Great Division spilted Nassau between the two brothers Walram II and Otto I. Walram II recieved all the land south of the Lahn and Otto I recieved all the territories north of the Lahn. The descendants of Walram II became known as the Walramian Line, which became important in the Countship of Nassau and Luxembourg. The descendants of Otto I became known as the Ottonian Line, which would inherit parts of Nassau, France and the Netherlands.
