The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (US) or America, is a country primarily located in North America. The United States is a federal republic and a representative democracy with three separate branches of government. The executive branch is led by the president, who is the head of state and of government. The legislative branch is composed of the lower House of Representatives, which is based on population, and the upper Senate, which is based on state representation. The judicial branch interprets laws based on the country's constitution.
