In enzymology, a nucleoside-phosphate kinase (EC 2.7.4.4) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction
- ATP + nucleoside phosphate ADP + nucleoside diphosphate
Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are ATP and nucleoside phosphate, whereas its two products are ADP and nucleoside diphosphate.
This enzyme belongs to the family of transferases, specifically those transferring phosphorus-containing groups (phosphotransferases) with a phosphate group as acceptor. The systematic name of this enzyme class is ATP:nucleoside-phosphate phosphotransferase. This enzyme is also called NMP-kinase. This enzyme participates in pyrimidine metabolism.
Structural studies
editAs of late 2007, 3 structures have been solved for this class of enzymes, with PDB accession codes 2BND, 2BNE, and 2BNF.
