Gaurav Gupta (born 17 January 1979) is an Indian Fashion designer and Couturier from Delhi. He is widely known for his works in Bollywood, Hollywood, television and his revolutionary international brand of couture and experiential space design.[1][2]

Notable Works

Having worked with Hussein Chalayan, Gaurav debuted his eponymous label at India Fashion Week in 2006. Besides the women’s prêt-a-porter line, Gaurav Gupta has ventured into couture, womenswear and menswear.[3]

Gaurav Gupta was one of the faces of Behind The Mask, a multi-platform initiative launched by Vogue and GQ.[4]

In 2004, Gaurav Gupta entered into the Indian fashions and known as the couture designer.

Gupta's signature to the Indian bridal space, the sari gown first appeared at the Delhi Couture Week 2010.[5]

His shows have pioneered collaborations with light design, sculptures, immersive theatre and experiential poetry.[6]

In 2020, Gaurav opened the The First-Ever Digital India Couture Week, "Name Is Love". A show about Love: love for self, love for all genders, love for all body shapes and love for all ethnicities.[7][8]

Bollywood

Gaurav's sculptural couture gowns has walked the red carpets of the Emmys and Golden Globes besides dressing eminent artists in music, cinema, fashion and art around the world.[9] A few of them include Bollywood actresses like Deepika Padukone,[10] Lisa Haydon, Jacqueline Fernandez,[11][12] Priyanka Chopra,[13] Sonam Kapoor,[14] Aditi Rao Hydari,[15] Kareena Kapoor Khan,[16] Sara Ali Khan,[17] Saif Ali Khan[18] and Aishwarya Rai.[19]Gaurav’s installation ‘Tunnel of Infinity’ was a part of Santati, a travelling art exhibition commemorating 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi, which opened at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai.[20] He was also the exclusive designer to collaborate with Vogue and IBM to create India’s first garment based on Artificial Intelligence.[21]

International Crossover

Gaurav has worked with some of the biggest names in the international fashion scenario[22] and revolutionized the international Red carpet with the fierce Lady Victoria Hervey,[23] Hussein Chalayan, Stella McCartney[24][25] new-age rapper Saweetie,[26][27] former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo,[28][29] Nicole Scherzinger,[30]Nana Akua Addo[31] and Gigi Gorgeous.[32]

Gaurav Gupta Man became a reality in 2018 with an opening show in collaboration with GQ India. That includes actors Ranveer Singh, Ayushman Khurana, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra, film director Karan Johar, rapper Wyclef Jean and the Latin boy band CNCO.[33][34][35]

He was also invited to showcase at London’s Animal Ball 2019, hosted by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.[36][37]

Awards and Honors

Gupta has been awarded Breakthrough Designer on several occasions. His graduate collection was awarded ‘The Future of Couture’ trophy at Altaroma Altamoda, Rome Couture Fashion Week in July 2006 and ‘The Roots of Creativity’ title at the Mittelmoda Fashion awards.[38]
