is a county-level city in Zhejiang Province, China. It is under the administration of Hangzhou.With an area of 2,364 square kilometers and household registered residents 513,400, Jiande City has jurisdiction over 3 sub-districts 12 towns, 1 township, 41 communities and 232 administrative villages. The Expressway of Hangxinjing passed through the entire boundary and the distance between Hangzhou and Jiande was about 1 hour by bus. Xin'an River, Fuchun River and Lan River passed through from west to east. Jiande is the State-level key scenic spots, the China Excellent Tourism City, National Health City, the State-Level Biological Exemplary Base and the Exemplary City of National Forestation, the National Renewable Energy Exemplary City. By deeply executing the 3 strategies of Strong with Industry, Energy with Commerce & Tourism, and Progressive with Environment, the comprehensive strength was obviously reinforced, and the economy and social development kept stable and rapid. In 2009, Jiande realized 16.586 billion yuan, up by 5.3% over the previous year; the fiscal revenue totalled 2.003 billion yuan, up by 3.2%.

editAnnual average temperature in Jiande is 16.9℃ and annual precipitation is 1600mm. Frost free period is 254 days a year. The temperature of the water in Xin'an River remaining 14-17℃ all year round makes the city cool in summer and warm in winter.
History and Culture
editJiande Founded as a county in 225 A.D. the Three Kingdom Dynasty, Jiande nearly has a history of 1800 years.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jiande was the capital of Yanzhou Prefecture (fu). On account of this, Jiande was often referred to as Yanzhou Fu (严州府). A transcription commonly seen in both French and English writing of the time was Yen-tcheou-fou, derived from French missionary writing.[1][2][3]Many historical figures Wu zixu, Zhu Maiceng, famous poets like Du Fu, Meng Haoran, Du Mu, Fan zhongyan, Lu You all left their footprints here as well as their eternal works.
Tourism
edit“Landscape Gallery, Leisure Paradise”, Jiande is one of the most favoured tourist destination in Zhe Jiang Province.
Places of Interest:
(1) Daci Rock(Great Benevolence Rock,大慈岩): It is famous for a Jiangnan Suspending Temple and China’s Number One Natural Standing Buddha. The 1000-year-old ginkgo tree and wild blossoms will delight your eyes too.
(2) Xinye Ancient Village(新叶古村):7km away from Daci Rock lies this languid retreat. Surrounded by a thousand acres of canola plants, this village with black-tiled roofs and white-washed walls will mesmerize visitors with its eye-pleasing colors and classic countryside flavor. During festivals, you can see locals stage bewildering rituals and festivities.
(3) Qiliyangfan(七里扬帆): As the most picturesque section of the Fuchun River, Qililong (Seven-li long rapids) is where the essence of the beauty of the river lies. Featuring green hills, crystal-like water, ancient history and serene environment, it has inspired the legendary painting, Dwelling in Fuchun Mountains accomplished by the famous painter Huang Gongwang (1269-1354).
(4) Xin’an River Hydro Power Plant(新安江水电站): Because of this plant, hundreds of villages are buried under water for eternity and ten of thousands of people have had to leave their homelands, and one thousand hills are turned into islands. A visit to this plant will sure trigger a sense of grandeur. The water temperature sustains at 17 ℃ all year around.[Hangzhou Tourism Commission 1]

Transportation
editHighway: G320, G330 and Hangxinjing Expressway run through Jiande. Another expressway is under construction to link with other cities. Jiande is 108km far from Hangzhou, 280km to Shanghai and 260km to Ningbo

editWater Resource: Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station and Fuchunjiang Hydropower Station are within its border. Xin'an River runs through Jiande. Water quality is excellent that reaches drinking water standard without any treatment. Beverage industry is richly endowed by the resourceful water here.
