This is probably better handled as a Requested Move. I will add the appropriate template to your reasoning below.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:35, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Template:User box bottomTemplate:Userboxbottom — This should be moved back to Template:Userboxbottom. None of the other templates in this series were renamed and this creates inconsistency between them. Additionally, this is a container for userboxes. Note the single word there. Wikipedia:Userboxes is not two words. Adrignola (talk) 12:11, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Possible Bug?

edit

    New bug Userboxbottom keeps failing. For example, I'm editing my Userbox in VE, and when I apply changes there, it looks fine. However, when I save, everything goes into the Userbox. So, as a temporary fix, I have to go into Source, and make a new paragraph at the end of each part of the userbox.

Here's what it looks like when Userboxbottom messes up.

And here's what it's supposed to look like.

Any ideas? --The Phase Master (talk) 14:36, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi The Phase Master. The documentation (which is at {{userboxtop}}) does not directly explain that you must separate userboxbottom from the last userbox entry with a carriage return, but the illustration of correct use there does contain that detail by what it shows. I will add that detail explicitly to the documentation. Meanwhile, VisualEditor remains a beta program with bugs, so using it is always a bit dicey. You can report VisualEditor bugs at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. I don't have a lot of experience with VisualEditor but I just tested it at my user page to try to reproduce the error, and I couldn't even get the userbox to insert in the correct location, much less specify a carriage return. Anyway, it doesn't seem to be a bug with this template but with inserting it using VE, so maybe you should report the bug there. Template-protected edit request on 8 April 2017

edit

On the doc page of the companion template {{Userboxtop}}, the following is mentioned: "Note that {{userboxbottom}} must be separated from the last userbox by a newline. In the absence of a newline, other text on the page may appear inside the confines of the userbox area.".

It would be nice to remove such strange constraint. I propose the following code:

<includeonly><!-- The end of table must be on a new line -->
|}</includeonly><noinclude>
{{documentation}}
</noinclude>

...and then remove that sentence about the newline from Template:Userboxtop/doc. Klipe (talk) 10:01, 8 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

  Not done for now:, I'll take the lack of response to your request as a confirmation that my concerns are shared, namely,
  • Nothing is broken - there are 42,000 transclusions of this template which indicates it's not that difficult to master. If we were starting with a blank slate, I'd dive in and make the change, but we're not;
  • It's not been tested in the sandbox - the wiki-engine squeezes out excess whitespace. While the extra whitespace won't do any harm, it hasn't been shown that this fix will do any good;
  • How about the others? There are many templates & template sets which work the same way, {{End}}, {{!)}}, {{AlumniEnd}}, {{Officeholder table end}}, {{StadiumimgEnd}}, {{CTableEnd}}, {{FacultyEnd}}, {{HerolistEnd}}, {{S-end}} and that's just the ones which have been neatly categorised. 42,000 transclusions here, 215,000 there, and it soon adds up to a major change.
That's my 2¢. In short,
  Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template.
  Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. (yes, it feels silly requesting a sandbox for |}).
