Template:PoundTemplate:Number sign – More generic/neutral and the Unicode name used (and linked) in the documentation. Sardanaphalus (talk) 10:37, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

SurveyEdit

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Support pound could also be a reference to mass of currency. I think number sign will be clearer to more people than pound.--67.68.22.129 (talk) 19:53, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Support it's not the sign for the British currency, nor "lb" symbol for weight, so is highly ambiguous. Optionally {{hashmark}} or {{octothorp}}/{{octothorpe}} are also reasonable and even less ambiguous that "number sign" (which could mean №) -- 65.94.169.222 (talk) 05:21, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

DiscussionEdit

Any additional comments:
  • Comment any idea why we have {{Hash-tag}} ? # ; couldn't this be a <big> version of this template instead? -- 65.94.169.222 (talk) 05:23, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Output in texts copied verbatim from French WikipediaEdit

French Wikipedia uses template {{Numéro|x}} to output "nº x" (where "x" is normally a number): fr:Modèle:Numéro. If an author copies text (title of a reference, etc.) verbatim from French Wikipedia into English Wikipedia, eg. when translating an article, and fails to notice the presence of that template or is not aware of the different output, the output changes to "#" and the number is lost. Is there anything that should and can be done about it, except manually replacing the French-sourced template with "nº"? 84.69.182.103 (talk) 14:52, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
