Category problem

This template, though showing on the template as in this category Category:People infobox templates, does not actuall show up there. I'm guessing it would be the same problem for the other cats. Aboutmovies 01:03, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Presidents/chancellors of multiple institutions

Any comments on the desirability of adding a new parameter to list other institutions besides the current one where the person has held leadership positions? Particularly in the upper echelon institutions, it seems not-uncommon for people to have had significant careers as president/chancellor of more than one university. Is it worth putting in the infobox, or is it just extra clutter that should stay in the body of the article? Sarcasmboy 12:22, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

• I have a similar question. I am editing the Presidents of Rice University, including people like Edgar Odell Lovett, and William Vermillion Houston. I have added a successor box for "Academic Office", but have noticed that there is a template for University President, as well. Unfortunately, this template doesn't seem to support successive offices, like the Template_President does. Necessary width/height for image

I think the necessary parameters for width and height of images involved in this template are very restrictive. A lot of images of people are simply not 225x250px. Can this parameter be eliminated? Alekjds ^talk 00:37, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

I have just replaced the old image coding with new ones that will allow you to post pictures that are as large or small as you like. Just remember to restrict your image size at your discretion. That made the image in, for example, Eric Thomas (academic) disppear completely. I've therefore taken the template back to the August 25 version, but feel free to identify and fix the problem and then take it forward again. Splash - tk 02:48, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

This doesn't have to be discussed at WT:UNI; after all, the WikiProject doesn't "own" this template and this talk page works fine, too, for those who are interested in this particular template. I do think that discussion about this template needs to happen somewhere, though. You and User:Emerson7 are dangerously close to escalating this to a full-on edit war. Why does the image size parameter need to be changed? I'm not arguing that it shouldn't be changed at all, just that I'm curious as to what all this hullabaloo is about. the imagesize parameter for this template is static and at 225px, larger than the many of the other infobox templates which are usually between 200px and 220px. since some images do not scale very well, the lower range of the scale seems the better choice. also, as indicated in previous edit summary, inserted {{{workplaces}}} variable based on {{infobox scientist}} to resolve obvious deficiency. --emerson7 17:31, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Problem with the range dash in term start – term end

Hi, for full dates (with at least one internal space in either the opening or closing element, or both, like December 3, 1980), the en dash is spaced on both sides. This is how the syntax seems to be coded now. December 3, 1980 – February 18, 2001).

The problem is that most infoboxes have just years for these fields, which require a closed range dash (en dash): 1980–2001. Currently, this is rendered as 1980 – 2001, which is wrong according to our style rules and those of most other leading authorities in English.

Am I right in saying that the way to fix this (and it does need to be fixed) is to conflate these two fields into one, so that the editor will need to insert the typography manually? Fine by me. If they use a hyphen, it's unfortunate but will be corrected eventually by script, or manually.

The other way to fix might be to provide two pairs of fields—one for full dates, and one for years alone.
